We crossed the border into South Australia therefore crossing off another state/territory of Australia 3 down 5 to go. Ceduna is a strange little town, the best thing about it is that you can catch Blue Swimmer Crabs by the hundreds of the Jetty just near the caravan park. We borrowed a crab pot from the caravan park manager and caught about 20 in an hour. Steve, Samuel and I also went for a fish and caught 3 Austalian Salmon, our first successful fishing expedition so far, so it was a fun time. ... read more

Today we drove about 435k’s to Streaky Bay and we started off going into a strong head wind but about ½ hr into the drive it changed to a tail wind so it was all good sailing for the day. Made several stops along the way for scenic views of the coast line. Stopped at Ceduna for fruit and veggies check, the inspector was a bit sad and had no people skills. We stopped at the Foreshores Caravan Park (fpa) for 3 nights at 21.50/night good value as it is school holidays now. There is no Optus signal but Telstra is good. ... read more

We decided to have a quite day today due to all the travelling of the last week. Catched up on washing first thing in the morning as there was 3 machines but only 1 worked. As we went through the border quarantine station yesterday we had no fresh fruit or veggies left, so went groceries shopping in the morning. After lunch Marg read a book while Warwick went to the public library to get on the internet to pay some bills. He read in the laundry that at the school library across the road you can used their internet for free, but apparently in South Australia the government has started a system where anyone can get free access to the net so he joined up. After paying bills and update some of the blog he ... read more

Another quite day we didn’t feel like going anything so after a cooked breakfast took the dogs for a walk to town about 15 mins away and back a whole hour in total. This entire place is a small holiday fishing village with about a dozen shops and 1 pub 2 garages so not much here but it is very pleasant place. After lunch Warwick wet and filled the car and topped up the water tanks for our next stage of the journey. ... read more

We were last to leave the camp site as we slept in. Today was a better day as we had a southwest wind behind up all day and it was hard to keep the speed down to a safe level. Filled up at Mundrabilla roadhouse at180c/l which was a good surprise at the price. Over the border and said good bye to Western Australia for the time being, then started the Nullarbor Plain section. Filled up at the Nullarbor roadhouse at 192.9c’l which is cheaper than what we thought. At the Nullarbor roadhouse Marg spoke to a woman who said about 15k’s up the road there was a turn off to see the whales so we stopped for a while. There were about 10 in the bay with some had calves. They were beautiful just taking ... read more

When we started off today we were travelling into a heavy North eastern wind didn’t get out of 4th gear all day. Had 2 fuel stops 1 at Caiguna at 193.3 c/l and the other at Madura pas hotel motel which was 200c/l. Total distance today was about 460k’s. We stopped at Jillah Rockhole free stop which we parked in the back amongst trees. There was someone else there when we arrived so by late afternoon there was about 10 other van or backpackers. It rained in the afternoon and then when it stopped a wind came up and so everything got dusty. We had to cook up the remaining veggies as we were informed that at the border there was an inspection for fruit and veggies. So Warwick put the generator on and then went ... read more

Well on the road again but this time it’s going to be the long trip home across the Nullarbor. Marg took the wheel first today as Warwick had already done this section from Norseman to Kalgoorlie a few days ago. We arrived at Norseman and filled up probably the last cheap fuel before we reach South Australia 162.9 c/l and rang Karen to inform her that we were starting the crossing and we will ring in about 5 days from Ceduna. The day was nice and warm bordering on hot. First fuel stop was at Balladonia at 198.9c/l so the rest will hurt for price. As Warwick filled the car Marg went and got ice blocks for everyone including the dogs and continued on for about 50 k’s just short of ½ way along the ... read more

Well after four weeks staying at Claire's sister's house, we're finally off on our long trip. We spent our first night just half an hour away in Kooweerup. Meaning "black fish swimming" in the local aboriginal language, this area was originally swampland but has been drained to provide farmland and is now famous for its asparagus, apparently asparagus icecream is available locally! Claire's cousin Tony and his wife Val live here, and on the way round to theirs we popped into Caldermead Dairy Farm for a milkshake. Arriving just in time to watch the cows being milked our first sight, and in fact our first photo of our trip, was of a cows arse slowly moving sideways past an open window. Lots of cows arses in fact. There's a big turntable that takes 50 cows at ... read more

On our way again up and over getting closer to the Nullarbor! Port Augusta was the first town which isn’t the nicest town, and down along the coast with odd stops along the way. One being Port Lincoln where we could have gone cage diving with the notorious great white shark but tours were all booked up a month in advance. I am sure grandma was happy about that! So we carried on up the coast stopping at Point Avoid (an awesome lookout) and one of the coolest stops being ‘staircase to heaven‘. A long steep staircase leading down to a beach where we got a beautiful view of a sea lion playing in the water. Of course I was pointing the camera the wrong direction and missed the perfect shot as it came through on ... read more

Well, after months of organising, waiting and planning we eventually took off from Busselton, a day later than planned as the Step-Mum of one of our travelling companions died and he attended her funeral. The first two days travelling across W.A. heading for the start of the Eyre Highway was refreshing as the west has had lots of rain recently and everything was lush and green. Not so as we progressed on into South Australia, passing through km after km of wasteland, dry and dusty. When we reached the farming land it was so sad to see field after field of stunted crops, sparse and dry, even seeing whole harvesting rigs up for sale on the side of the road beside farms. The animals look underfed and spindly and farmers seem to let them roam wherever ... read more
