Hi everyone. Just a short update on our latest adventures, hopefully with some photos! As many of you will be aware since the start of our travels it has been Linda's big dream to celebrate her big FIVE O with a barbie on the beach. Well, albeit it a week late, her wish eventually came true. In every coast side town we have been in the council provides barbecue areas complete with electric or gas barbecues for the use of the general public - brilliant facility. As luck would have it there is one such area just a 100 metres or so from our apartment. We had invited Linda's old friends Cathy and Bruce from Brisbane as well as a couple of couples that we had met through them. We had also invited our new friends ... read more

Tuesday 23. Local newspaper interview and photo. Tide racing out rippling at river mouth. Headed for Mooloolaba. Yachts aplenty. Water activity. Did I see an osprey and a gannet? Pervasive quiet on a shore looking north to bluffs and peaks. Tropical stillness. Wednesday 24. I'm starting to get a sense of being in Queensland. It was always going to be fabulous. And since my blog is intended to be brief, I'll leave it at that. Yacht race coming north, rounding the penultimate mark. Then beating in to Mooloolaba. Surfing, spruiking. Stickering the east coast. Must get to YC. Need to get up to speed. Warm climes. Good times. Cotton trees. Condos. As far as I can tell, the only industry here is happiness. ... read more

Monday 22 Caloundra streets quite relaxed. Internetted at the library - one dollar. Back at the bluff, all hands on deck - walking, jogging, boxing training and binocularing ships sailing past some small going north in light southerlies. Wading bird, long legs and neck, landed on condo railing. Other grey waders flew past. A pair of yellow and blue parrots with scarlet rears.... read more

What a great start to the day - the alternative and organic 'envy' cafe. A glass of 'envy' juice - lime, pineapple, grapefruit and ginger washing down a bacon, egg, onion, mushroom and cheese burger. Yum! After I was well and truly stuffed I walked along the coast across the Alexandra Headland to Mooloolaba. Mooloolaba seemed to consist almost entirely of cafes and souvenier shops, but was not as tacky for it as you might expect. I decided to go on a river and canal cruise to get a feel for the area - and its elaborate waterfront properties with pricetags far outside the reach of the mere mortal. First was the multimillion house owned by a microbiologist who invented an oil eating enzyme... a few doors down was the huge 'croc one' boat outside a ... read more
