We flew up to Cairns from Sydney a few days ago. The flight was about 3 hours which is about the same as flying from London to Kingussie three times. We have been relaxing and swimming a lot in our hotel. It has great slide and I have met lots of nice children to play with. Cairns is very very hot and sunny with a tropical climate. There are lots and lots of insects and other wild beasts. On our first night we saw lots of spiders and cockroaches, a Kangaroo jumped out of the bush in front of us and there was a big warning not to swim in the sea or the crocodiles would eat you. Tropical Locations are nice, if you're into that sort of thing. Just looking down from the airplane I knew the water was warm, and probably full of sharks. Tara and I left Sydney today reluctantly leaving what had become a very calm and hectic, fun home the last few days. The idea of leaving the bustle of Sydney to sit on a beach all day and drink $20 cocktails didn’t hold much appeal to me, but I was on board for the Great Barrier Reef (GBR, for the rest of entry) and seeing Tara in a bikini for 80% of the next 4 days. Why can’t women put the toilet seat back up? (best bumper sticker ever) I admire how many people around here are just, “living.” Living out of trucks and painted up vans. Working ... read more

XX w. przez pewnego imigranta z ... read more

I don't think we could have had a more enjoyable honeymoon! For Victor and I, it involved traveling half way a cross the world to an exciting new continent. It involved snorkeling in one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world and it involved exciting new cities, romantic beach resorts, tropical rainforests, and trying a variety of new things! Australia is seriously the coolest place to visit! Like true lovers of travel, we decided long ago that traveling somewhere exciting for our honeymoon was the priority over spending a lot on the wedding. We decided to visit the tropical coast of Australia, but Victor kept most of the details of our honeymoon a secret as a surprise for me! It was the best decision we made, because it was THE BEST TRIP WE'VE EVER TAKEN, ... read more

We invited a few friends to join us on a day around the Botanical Gardens, one of my Cairns happy places. The gardens are so inspiring and full of life. Today was the annual festival on Collins. The main street is closed off to traffic to cater for a myriad of market stalls and people. Any excuse to celebrate life, food, street performance and craft.... The Tanks Art Centre was in full use. Bottom tank art on display and top tank for performers, including our circus leader Justine who was in her element in costume on stage! Live theatre always wins hands down!! The weather gave insight into the coming wet season with the first real sticky day of the season. After an eventful day, six tired boys finished local fruit ice creams and we meandered ... read more

A leisurely start to Saturday with a quick trip to the local store to buy food for breaky and lunch. With lunch packed we set off and headed to Kurumba a small village inland located beside Barron Falls waterfall. The trip only took about 30 minutes and the falls was our first stop where we got some breath taking views and some awsome pics. A short trip into Kurumba and we parked up to walk around the over inflated tourist shops which was pleasant but did not hold our intrest for long. we headed back down to the coast and before heading back stopped to eat our late lunch at Trinity Beach Resort which is the next one down from Palm Cove. We returned to our apartent where after typing this I will be cooking tea ... read more

Following our day out on the Great Barrier Reef, we headed back towards Cairns again only this time we had 8 days at the Marlin Cove Resort at Trinity Beach. We followed three massive coaches from the Quicksilver company all the way down the highway - boy that is one big operation! Marlin Cove turned out to be a fantastic resort and we'd been lucky enough to score a primo room overlooking the lagoon pool complete with white sandy beaches. Although not as close to the beach as our previous places, the lovely apartment and outlook more than made up for it. After a day lazing around taking it easy, enjoying the pool and playing a few games of tennis we were back into being tourists and went on a trip up to Kuranda on the ... read more

This year to escape the cold we tossed up between Rarotonga (never been there) and Tropical North Queenland (last visit 1998). Both had the prerequisite minimum temperature, but TNQ won this time due to the many attractions and things to do to keep everyone happy. Pacific Blue had the cheapest fares available - albeit no frills much to the kids disappointment. Ashleigh was gutted that she wasn't going to have inseat entertainment nor gourmet food for almost 6 hours! What was she going to do for THAT long? We did hire them a dvd player and supplied pot noodles to pass the time... Arrived into Cairns the dark and immediately dispensed with the jersey - Ahhhh, I'm already enjoying this holiday. Picked up our hire car from Avis (a near new Corolla) and found our way ... read more
