Europe August 24th 2013

A slow start to the day with the usual chores carried out before heading up to track. Just practice day today so not so crowded. Pleased to find the two mile journey to track was covered by a free shuttle bus so made use of it and saved a cycle. Watched F1, GP2, GP3 and Porche cup racing until about 5 then headed back. Track was a little daunting to walk round on first day so we found a spot close to our entrance. Racing was great and the atmosphere awesome even on practice day. Made a few more friends on campsite and sat drinking beer and exchanging stories till about 10pm. Party went on for a few more hours but with two big days ahead we hit the sack early. Yes even me!... read more

Europe August 22nd 2013

Had a lovely day yesterday driving along the river Mosel and through the vineyards until we found ourselves looking down on the beautiful town of Cochem with it's great looking castle. Headed straight to the Wildpark at the top of another peak and spent a couple of hours viewing wild boar, goats, various types of deer, wolves, etc, birds of prey and paradise with the highlight being brown bears. Not exactly what I would describe as a Wildpark but there was a roller coaster that had stunning views and a log flume that helped to keep us cool. Went for to an Asian restaurant in the evening in Cochen. Drove to Francorchamps and picked up F1 tickets. After a bit of struggle managed to find the L'Eau de Rouge campsite and have our little space for ... read more

Now in the Mosel wine region and the lanscape, culture and tourist's have changed. It's g one from young families to old wino's like us. Drive today was about 2 hours in total so a fairly relaxed day. After a cycle to the town and a walk around we settled in for the evening with Chris on the laptop, Sue head in her puzzle book and me doing Blog and facebook. Camp site is right on the river so its been quite nice watching all the river traffic as the sun set behind the hills. No fixed plan for tomorrow so just a few more miles to get out the way to get closer to Spa on Friday. Excitement growing and crossing fingers for the weather.... read more

Unfortunately high ropes shut on a Monday but as wet probably a good thing o th the safety front. Looked round outlet shops which looked like a Disney designer had a say but nothing to our taste or price range. Spent a couple of hours looking round new models of motor homes. Great to have some many in one place but chose ours as having best layout. Did long drive to past Frankfurt found nice site. Lido in walking distance. Chris joined the other 4 brave people for a swim. After a rainbow the evening turned out nice. I... read more

Today we came to the end of the Romantic road and with a little sadness planned our next few days. We decided on a camp site for the night just down the road from an outlet superstore. So retail therapy planned for morning plus a visit to a high ropes centre just round the corner. After enjoying a very good meal at the on site restaurant we headed back to the van to watch a video, the chosen video being Ted. Ill tell you what I think about it tomorrow. Night night campers.... read more

Sues stopped blogging coz she says I have more humour. I guess as I have spell checker on my phone I can come across funny rather than stupid. Rothenburg was as expected a very impressive walled town full of American and Japanese visitors, bloody tourists. They did however bring life to the streets and I'm sure thier revenue was appreciated. After a couple of hours of sight seeing we set of for Lauda Konigshofen an insignificant town on our route but one with a great outdoor lido. To our surprise it was free to get in as it was a family fun day and part of the entertainment was a free show watching adolescent youths do BMX stunts of a ramp into the pool, only in Germany. Although there was free parking overnight the spot seemed ... read more

After a few more lavish sites were back to a basic car park tonight although they do have toilets and electric. Bit further up the Romantic road and stopped in rothenburg another walled town which we have yet to visit, thats job for the morning. Another meal in the van followed by cards and a little poker. Very much settled into a routine and most jobs get done without thinking. Nothing more has broken on the van but some things do annoy me with there quality of workmanship, guess that just the way the world works these days. All in all another good day with lots of memories to treasure.... read more

Big day today with lots done. was an early start after a late finish due to a party last night (nothing to do with me), Sue not impressed! We headed out for Stein just outside Nuremberg to park up and catch train into town center of Nuremberg. After 3 hours of walking and another 4 churches under our belt we headed back to van to drive to a camp site. we chose another lakeside camp just out side Gunzenhausen with 240v power, hot showers and at last free WIFI! We arrived at site at about 3 o'clock and headed down to the lake for a swim and a nap. Its great how well all the lakes are set up here with bars restaurants and most have water sports of some description. Dinner was a BBQ with ... read more

After chris and I walked around most of the wall (got bored as main view was peoples gardens), we left the romantic road to go to Wissenberg. Pretty route but glad of satnav as came across another closed road. Moved on to a camp site in Absburg, again next to a lake. Next morning , I went for a walk whilst Chris and Moe cycled around part of the lake. After relaxing and going for a swim we hired a pedalo and in the evening played mini golf until lack of light stopped play.... read more

Got the train into Munich and walked around the sights. Sue did her usaul overdose of churches. We stopped for a beer in hofbrauhaus the oldest beer hall in Germany. We waited for the rain to stop but gave up and headed back to Erding. while in Munich we bought some fish for dinner so we cooked up a yummy meal and sat back to watch a vid. Moving on in the morning and heading back onto the romantic rd. Can't see whats romantic about being stuck in 45 square foot of motorhome with your 15 year old son! Oh and Sue managed to climb 306 steps up a tower to take in the view of Munich. Eventually!... read more
