Andy arrived late last night so stayed up chatting. Wilson decided the change of routine was not to his liking and got up at 5.30 so not the best start to a day for Sharon. Drove to Cowes. Pretty town and bay. The girls took time out to do a quick look around the shops whilst Moe entertained Wilson making balloon models. Moved on to Nobbies Point to try and see the seals on Seal Rocks. Could make out their shape but not that close. Good visitor centre though. After grabbing some warm clothes and dropping off Andy and Wilson back at the house we went to experience the Penguin Parade. At dusk, hundreds of fairy penguins come ashore and waddle in groups to find their burrows and mating partners for the night. Amazing experience watching ... read more

Time to leave Melbourne and head for Philip Island, our next view of Melbourne would be from the airport on Sunday. The drive to Philip Island was to take about two hours and with Wilson coming along we planned a halfway stop for lunch and a leg stretch. Timboon was our lunch stop and we found a nice picnic area with toilets and a play area to entertain Wilson. We were staying in another rented house and we arrived to find another fantastic holiday property again with sea views, well done Sharon. We settled in and did some unpacking. Another lie in and a late breafast was had before heading out for a walk around Rhyll, the village we were staying in. One convienence store and two coffee shops along with a few boat yards was ... read more

Today was not as eventful as others and we took a leisurely drive back to Melbourne stopping at Lorne for lunch and coffee. After feeding the kids and getting Wilson to bed we left Kay and Chris to babysit for the evening while we headed out for a meal at a local Cambodian resturaunt. The food was great and it was nice to get away from the kids for a few hours.... read more

My turn to make breaky so bacon and omlette was the order of the day. Our travels today took us further along the great ocean road and we visited several view points along the beach such as London Bridge, The Twelve Apostles and the Arch. We also drove up the road to Ottway Lighthouse where we stopped to do wild koala spotting which the kids thoroughly enjoyed. our next stop was to view a local cheese factory and a local distillery where of course we did some tasting. After a full day on the road we returned to the house for home cooked lasagne and another bottle of red wine. After dinner we settled the kids and jumped into the car to go find Apollo Bays stonking nightlife, we didnt find it and settled fot the ... read more

Here we go again, life as a traveller seems a little like groundhog day. We packed our cases and set off for the airport dropping the car in the general carpark and checking in. This time our carrier was Qantas and a flight time of 3 hours. We arrived to meet Sharon, Andy and their two and a half year old son Wilson. They had hired a large people carrier so getting all the bodies and the luggage in was no problem and we were soon at their home in Seddon a small suberb of Melbourne. After a good nights sleep we sorted ourselves out and the Pearce family along with Sharon headed off for Apollo bay leaving Andy to look after Wilson (lucky him). The drive to Apollo Bay took us along the Great Ocean ... read more

A leisurely start to Saturday with a quick trip to the local store to buy food for breaky and lunch. With lunch packed we set off and headed to Kurumba a small village inland located beside Barron Falls waterfall. The trip only took about 30 minutes and the falls was our first stop where we got some breath taking views and some awsome pics. A short trip into Kurumba and we parked up to walk around the over inflated tourist shops which was pleasant but did not hold our intrest for long. we headed back down to the coast and before heading back stopped to eat our late lunch at Trinity Beach Resort which is the next one down from Palm Cove. We returned to our apartent where after typing this I will be cooking tea ... read more

So a drive to Brisbane and a night in a very nice hotel near the airport started to make things look like our luck was on the up, until I then lost my phone! We dropped the car off to the airport on Wednesday night which saved us 80 bucks so got a taxi to the airport Thursday morning. The fight to Cairns was just over two hours and we arrived mid afternoon and again jumped into a taxi to our hotel, this time a Comfort Inn. Our dinning that evening was spent at Outback Jacks and although a little expensive we all left with bloated bellys. Today was Friday 13th, what could go wrong? We had booked a day trip on the Great Barrier Reef on Osprey V a dive/snorkel boat and awoke at 6.30 ... read more

This is where the story gets interesting, the next two days didn't go as planned and we will remember it for the wrong reasons. This being said we all had a good experience. We met at Rainbow beach Surf Club with our guide Andrew who was to show us around Fraser Island, we all climed aboard a Toyota Hybrid 4x4 and set off to the ferry at Inskip Point. Once on the island we drove along 75 mile beach which is the main highway beach road along the island. Our first stop was at Eli Creek, here we had the chance to swim or paddle in fresh spring water. CRASH BANG WALLOP!!!!!!!!! This is where our plans took a big change in direction. Before heading on to our next stop we all made use of the ... read more

Drove up to Tin Can Bay famous for its dolphins coming up to the bar to be fed. Unfortunately that occurs at about 8am and we arrived at 11. Took our chances and went out on a boat cruise for an hour. Lovely scenery and very relaxing but no dolphins. Had some lunch and then drove round the bay to Rainbow beach. Found an apartment for the night which had an added benefit of washing machine and dryer. Went for walk along long sandy beach, also used by 4x4's.Town named over the many colours of sand found in the cliffs. In reality different shades of yellow and red with white and black mixed in. Chris was brave enough to go for a swim in the waves. Cooked our first meal in 3 since leaving UK. Moe ... read more

An early start was needed and around 8.30 after a few fairwells then Joe dropped me off to Budget to pick up our hire car. the two hour drive north brought us to Steve Irwins Australia Zoo and a day of animal watching. here we had the chance to feed the Roos's and stroke Koala bears, so lots of photo oppotunities. We were all very impressed with the zoo, its cleanliness, size of enclosures and selection of animals. Our accomadation for the night is a motel about 40 mins drive north in Namour and is clean tidy and the food good. In the morning a short 90 min drive up to Tin Can Bay where we hope to see some wales.... read more
