"There is a shark below us." That morning I woke up early for two reason. First, because some sort of bug, possibly ants, had eaten me alive while I slept. I don’t know what did it or why, but I also didn’t care that I was covered in a rash of little red tiny bites. When you’re at peace, you also seem to have a more relaxed nature towards these types of things. I also woke up early to catch sunrise and watch Tottenham Hotspurs vs Inter Milan soccer. I missed the sunset but I got breakfast going and put on the game. No sooner did halftime arrive that Tara was in full teacher mode and had us packed and shuffling out the door. Normally I ‘d be excited about the day that lies ahead, especially ... read more

Tropical Locations are nice, if you're into that sort of thing. Just looking down from the airplane I knew the water was warm, and probably full of sharks. Tara and I left Sydney today reluctantly leaving what had become a very calm and hectic, fun home the last few days. The idea of leaving the bustle of Sydney to sit on a beach all day and drink $20 cocktails didn’t hold much appeal to me, but I was on board for the Great Barrier Reef (GBR, for the rest of entry) and seeing Tara in a bikini for 80% of the next 4 days. Why can’t women put the toilet seat back up? (best bumper sticker ever) I admire how many people around here are just, “living.” Living out of trucks and painted up vans. Working ... read more

Blue Mountain The only thing that is less exciting than waking up at 630am while you’re on vacation is drinking Jack Daniels by choice or your grandma accidently mailing her cat to you; neither has happened… in a long time. We basically woke up when all the vampires were heading to sleep. Now close your eyes everyone and picture this: The guy shows up from the company we booked our Blue Mountain world tour, with a giant kidnap rape van. When I got on the bus I wasn’t sure if I was in the TV room of a retirement home during, “the Price is Right,” or our tour bus. The bus was also about 34 degrees. If it had started raining in the bus it would have snowed. Now imagine the bus filling up with annoying ... read more

My two favorite, fun phrases I’ve learned along the way that I’ve enjoyed. 1. “Good on Ya” -A nice way of saying thank you or they like what you’ve done 2. “ What are you after” - bartenders say this often instead of, “what do you want.” Sydney has a rare thing about it that should be used more often in the United States, it’s called, wait for it…..free public transportation. It’s the most amazing thing, all day, a giant green tax payer funded bus, picks you up and drops you off for free. There’s no catch, at least I don’t think there’s one. Of course if they did this in the states, they’d probably collect your DNA or make you fill out a form so they can sell your info to telemarketing companies so ... read more

The Day After Yesterday We seem to be making a lot of new friends instead of getting punched. Between Tara and I’s personality we keep meeting new friends everywhere we turn. Although Aussies are as friendly as a pervert of the set of a Victoria Secret’s model shoot, most tourists are dicks, especially the British, so I think we’re a welcome change of pace. We have a new game we play, it’s title speaks volumes of it’s rules and play, it’s called, “Bitch, Bastard or British.” Tara and I generally like people so being nice to everyone here works out good and to our advantage. It also seems to matter how people perceive Aussies so they work really hard to smile and be nice to everyone. Yesterday we got a little ahead of ourselves and after ... read more

Flying over cities in the states you can always count on seeing swimming pools, baseball diamonds and high school football stadiums. It’s funny here because flying into Sydney all you can see is oceans, sailboats, cricket and rugby fields. It’s the strange little things that bring simple pleasure and reminders that you aren’t home anymore. Sydney is a well put together puzzle. There are a million people and streets and backstreets and alleyways and stairs, but its so easy to navigate everything. The city has a pulse, there’s beeping horns and fast cars, people passing by quickly in a mad pace, but there’s also an alarming amount of calm, ease and friendliness about it. The décor and backdrop to the city is history, tourism and business. All I can think about is all the cool spy ... read more

....Under Thoughts From A Plane Before we even got on the plane there was what we believed to be a problem with my visa. The first thing I thought was, “what did I do/leave behind in Ireland.” My second thought was, “well it was only a matter of time before I ended up on the no fly list.” Turns out everyone has to get a phone call to Australia to confirm you VISA, so no big deal. We didn’t get a chance to rock the red carpet lounge, so we kept our passes for another day, though I was looking forward to be being called sir and pampered for the first time in my life. For some reason I always do some intimate thinking on planes, my best guess is that I’m usually awake and have ... read more

My Blogger of the Year Acceptance Speech After 4 months of traveling there are so many people to thank, in no particular order, thank you, all of you. Tara and I appreciate all of you. And thanks to everyone who read this stuff, it was actually a lot of fun to write. Rob and Carl- Dublin became our home base for family, planning, and learning about Ireland and Europe. It was always nice to have these two guys take us in periodically and do everything they could to help us stay healthy, happy and on track. You guys are good friends. Eurail- Eurail though we had our times, was the cheapest and most effective way to experience and travel through Europe. Choo Choo baby. Lonely Planet- This book was key to the cheapest living and always ... read more

London Bridges Falling Down Have you ever gone out drinking and thought, “man this is boring or same ol same old.” Then friend I have the answer for you, I give you legalized gambling on……MONOPOLY!!! In some of the bars in England they have the Monopoly game where you answer trivia questions and then win actual cash. Me and Matt won 10 Euros after spending only 3. If you were able to put together a solid team, you could basically show up at a bar, play, have fun, drink for free and maybe even walk away with a little cash. Had there been no questions on British geography and literature, I may have paid for the entire European trip. London Boogers I have noticed that my snot has turned black since I’ve got to London. Mind the Gap Mind the Gap- A Comprehensive Guide to All My Thoughts In and About London Getting to London only furthered the nightmare that became travelling on planes, trains, boats and taxis. It took us 52 hours and cost about a $1000 to get from Rome to London, but we finally made it. I’d go over how awful and hellish it was, but instead I will only speak of two highlights, first and foremost travelling on ferries in the mediteranian is sweet as pie. They have resturants, bars, casinos, rooms with showers, and a movie theatre. The second highlight is my uncovering of the biggest conspiracy concerning the vatican since the Da Vinci Code. On our train from Paris to London, I swera I saw the pope on the train, dressed in civilian clothes. Now ... read more
