Hi mates (Australian for Hi my friends) I am back from a 4 day trip trough the Outback. First of all it was amazing to see the desert and its wildlife. The first night I slept in a tent but on the other two I stayed outside in a swag. A sort of one-person tent or lets say a big sleeping bag around your own. So lets start in Alice, cause that's where I started and where I am now. It surprised me, but in the middle of the desert it rained on my arrival. Usually you would think its a bad thing, but here its a blessing. Just two days before my arrival it happened to be 45 to 50 degree Celsius. Huh... So I was very happy with the weather. Early in the morning ... read more

Hej, hej derhjemme i Danmark.

15/11/06 - 21/11/06 After 3 days chilling out in Darwin, admiring the 80’s fashions, shopping and drinking cocktails in the Novotel Jabiru cocktail bar, we headed down south on a Quantas flight to Alice Springs. Back to our grueling touring schedule, we grabbed a 3 day tour heading out to Uluru, leaving the next morning at 06:30. Although Alice Springs is the major town in central Australia, it’s still over 450km from Uluru (Ayres Rock). We left Alice and immediately saw a rare sighting of 2 Wedgies, Australian for Wedge-tailed eagles - Australia’s biggest bird of prey, perched in a tree by the roadside, obviously close to a kangaroo corpse on the roadside. On road to the ‘red centre’ attractions we stopped at Erlunda and Mt Eberneezer roadhouses. Erlunda roadhouse is allegedly the most central inhabited ... read more

After Magnetic Island I moved onto Cairns where I spent a nice evening with some distant relatives. This is the second time on my trip I've made contact with people from this family and it has been really enjoyable both times. The one thing I've noticed as a backpacker stuck in the backpacker world, is that it's difficult to meet many locals. My bus stop in all the typical touristy towns and I've been doing the tourist activities. This has given me less opportunities to stop at a say a coffee shop on the side of the road where I would stand out as a a strange person and could strike up a conversation with someone who lives there. Visiting with this family has not only given me the opportunity to have a home cooked meal ... read more

Well I have decided and booked quite a few things today. I am off to see Uluru (Ayers Rock) tomorrow I start at 6:00am and don't get back until midnight. Its not a 3 day, camp under the stars tour...but with the money and time that I have it will be just fine for me. I spend another night in Alice springs before I get on the train and head down to Adelaide, spend some time there, then bus to Melbourne for a bit, then bus to Sydney. With "situations" at home (car accident) and me not wanting to get into huge debt with VISA, I have decided to come home for xmas. If I am serious about planning a trip to Thailand and going back to school in September. I need to get home and ... read more

The flight here was pretty cool, took a few pix of the red sands, and vast emptiness of the outback. As soon as I got off the plane it was like someone put a hair dryer to my face. It was so hot out. and it was only 11:30am. I got the shuttle to my hostel where I got a 3 bedroom dorm all to my self for 16.00 a night (amazing) the hostel is pretty cool. There is a pool and party bar all in the big complex. Right next door it the Baby Kangaroo (joey) help center. They take in abandoned or orphaned joeys and take care of them until they can go back to the wild. I am gonna try and get in to see them at some point (just make a donation). ... read more

Just spent 24 hours on the coach from Darwin to Alice Springs. Its SO hot hot hot here! Have checked into a hostel called Melanka's Party Bar for the night and we're waiting for our room to be cleaned. On our journey in, we drove past the area where Peter Falconio was killed and saw the hotel where his girlfriend Joanne ended up getting to for safety ... BIG distance! It was pretty freaky as this was the outback, there is nothing there! I mean coach drivers dont stop there, the only things that do are the kangaroos, cows, bulls, birds and wallabys! We were driving through at night which just added to the drama. Our coach driver was a police officer at the time of the murder and he reckons not everything happened as she ... read more

Hello everyone! Hope you are all well, sorry its been so long since the last blog but we have been stupidly busy the last couple of months. We are currently in Sydney and are doing well, but will talk more about that later. You could say we were sad to leave work in Darwin that would be lying. We will miss some of the crazy phillipino ladies but not the scrubbing and stuff. But I am sure that that lobby floor will never be as shiny!! To get updated I will be fairly brief, largely because of my poor memory, but also it takes ages to upload pictures, therefore you shall get this part of the trip in installments. Exciting! Part one... After we had finished work we had a nice couple of days being tourists ... read more

Left the boys in Melbourne and back on my lonesome again. I'm now in Alice Springs, a 2hr 40 mins flight from Melbourne, further than Portugal from London. Gives you an idea how big this country is. Stepped off the plane and was instantly hit by the heat. 35 degrees at 10am. First thing I noticed is that on every corner is an Abbo with no shoes on, weird old lot, just hang around getting pissed and thats just the children! Got my dates wrong for my flight so I'm now having to spend 6 days here before I start my trip down to Adelaide, tiny place and hostel is pretty average so not sure what I'm gonna do with myself. Also feels pretty strange to be told to check you bedding everynight for snakes and ... read more

Ok- lots to update! We flew over to Alice Springs from Cairns on Saturday. Quite a few of the others on our East coast tour were also doing this one too so we all flew over together. On our first night we went to a pub called Bojangles. It was very unique and rustic. They had saddles as bar stools and all sorts of things embedded in the walls and floorboards. I tried crocodile- it was actually really tasty and I would have it again. I also had a lovely beer- Carlton Draught- very nice. So anyway, the next day we went to The Olgas and went on a short walk there. Then we went onto Ayers Rock where we stayed to watch the sun set. It was cool and we had wine and nibbles as ... read more
