... read more

Bad start. I had done my visa for Canada when I went in April but I hadn't done Dave's. we had 20 minutes until check in to get it done. Lucy was on the case and together we got it done just in time. Long flight but not too bad we all managed to get some sleep except Brian who was being encouraged by Chase to watch a dragons movie. Just landed in Vancouver waiting for the bus... read more

Welcome to my blog, to all the people receiving this for the first time. Please reply to this email if you do not want to get any further blogs from me. So the first scare for our travels has already happened and we haven't even left the country. I noticed I did not get my alert to tell me to do online checkin today. I thought to myself "I'd better go to the Virgin Australia site and do it." I kept getting the message ..."You have no upcoming trips planned". O...M...G!!!!! I usually book tickets direct and this time I had booked online via Flight Centre. I was thinking "Did they actually pass on my booking to Virgin?" A phone call (and one heart attack later) I got onto someone who said that because I was ... read more

Landed in the land down under for a warm welcome from Darryl! There he was milky white with a huge back pack full of goodies for us waiting at the gate! Taxi to Sydney and we arrived where we were staying, with a friend from home in her apartment for a few nights. We stopped for a quick freshen up and then hit the town. Darryl had brought us tickets to a local NRL game Manly sea eagles vs Melbourne storm. So we hopped onto the ferry to take us over to Manly! On route we were able to see and get some great pics of the opera house and harbour bridge. We stopped for a quick bite to eat in the lovely Manly before heading off to the game. Darryl was already into the full ... read more

Good bye England 01,12.17 First stop: South Africa to see my dadddd.. So finally it was time to go back to SA and see dad, he lives in a shared house, pretty messy due to his house mates but I had a bed and that was fine. We spent most of the time outside, or cooking. The game reserve and the river where they fish and catch crabs was the best part of what bushmans river has to offer but of course the highlight of my trip was spending time with my dad and seeing granny. I missed him. I always will. I thought saying goodbye would get easier but of course it didn't. BUT.. leaving and knowing he is proud of me. That's something money can't buy! 10th/11th March Sydney Two days in this great city Although we have only been on since Auckland, there was a huge turnaround of passengers today (nearly half) Sydney is still a fabulous place sail into, although it was quite early today. There is something quite surreal about opening the curtains and having the Sydney Harbour Bridge as a backdrop. In the words of Basil Fawlty 'what were you expecting, herds of wildebeest crossing the Serengeti perhaps' A great city, the new developments are coming along, the Light railway should soon be up and running in George Street. So mainly a shopping expedition as the Sales were on and some bargains were to be had. Good to reacquaint ourselves with the Rocks and one of our favourite restaurants Wolfies on the waterfront. The Ocean Passenger Terminal is ... read more

Dearest friends from around the World It is only 20 more days until Noel and I vacate Australia and head on off to the beautiful United States (YES again!!!) for yet another adventure. Nine glorious weeks away from household chores, work, family worries and those awful children of ours. JUST JOKING BOYS!!!!! :) If anyone who receives this email would prefer NOT to receive any of my hilarious and informative blogs please let me know now, so that I can delete your email from my listing of "special people" in my life (but don't expect a Christmas card if you do). A special "thank you" in advance to the wonderful Paulette and Larry from Woodbridge Connecticut and my lovely Texas pen pal Cathie and her husband Barney from Waller Texas for allowing Noel and I to ... read more

Wednesday March 15, 2016 A day of travel and little to tell. A flight from Cairns to Sydney, 3 hours flight, and a car ride from Sydney to Canberra. The car ride in countries with driving on the left side of the road, always is a bit stressful and confusing. The confusion typically related to functions of the car: windshield wiper, direction indicator, etc. Happily, the car we rented is automatic; adding a manual shift to driving on the "wrong side" would complicate life a bit more. The road from Sydney to Canberra is an highway in part through an empty country and wide fields. We had been warned to watch for crossing kangaroos, but the only ones we saw were far removed from the road. With one sanitary stop, it took us about 3 hours ... read more

Well it's a good thing that we will be coming back to Australia because I have very few photos in my phone's gallery to share with you. BUT there are some of kangaroos - yes, we found some wild ones! And they allowed us get really close to them making it an especially wonderful experience. We have been staying with Stuart and Claire in the Blue Mountains behind Sydney. Mark and Stuart have known each other since they were childhood friends in Durban, so that's a little while now! We had a lovely day exploring the mountains with them before finding the roos in the Glenbrook National Park close to Stuart and Claire's home. We'll be returning to Sydney at the end of our trip but right now we're sitting at the airport waiting for the ... read more
