Clarence River B&B We woke early and Terry provided a beautiful breakfast on the verandah, looking out to the Clarence River. Steve had cereal, poached eggs, toast, tomatoes and bacon with juice and tea, while Jeni had Spanish omelet, bacon and toast with juice and coffee. The weather was great and we had a cute green frog as our breakfast companion, sitting on the garden light below the verandah, which actually let Jeni touch and hold him! After a wander through the grounds and three games of pool (Steve won all three!) Greg took us out on his power boat for a trip along the Clarence River. We had a wonderful time, saw several cows "paddling" in the river and beautiful homes along the cliff tops. After about an hour and a half we arrived back ... read more

Easter Friday: After attending Church we headed out for our driving long weekend. Our journey took us through Beenleigh to Tamborine Village and then on to Beaudesert. Just outside Beaudesert we got "stuck" behind a caravan which seemed to be "not quite legal"! It was listing way down on the right hand side so that the bottom of the caravan was way out of alignment and the right hand side of the caravan was bowed out so that it looked like it would burst open at any moment. (Obviously there was something extremely heavy in it which wasn't tied down.) Consequently the driver was having difficulty in keeping the caravan from swaying all over the road. We actually thought it was probably full of something a little bit illegal as he was also acting very suspicious, ... read more

From the Waterfall Way we reached the Pacific Highway once again and travelled north through Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga. We intended to stay in Yuraygir National Park and drove the 17km in off the highway towards the coast. We arrived at Station Creek camp ground around 5:30pm, found a site that looked nice enough and began to set up. However, before we got very far we noticed that we were being mobbed by swarms of sandflies. This changed our opinion of the camp site dramatically such that we decided to camp somewhere else. We had passed a turn off to Pebby Beach on the way in and thought that we might try there, but on the way we passed someone coming the other way who advised that the sandflies were “pretty horrendous” there too. The tide ... read more

DAY 52 29th December 2008 Monday Title Coffs and Sneezes So, whilst most of you, as in the population of England, were coughing and sneezing with the apparently “Australian” Flu, we were busy tidying the house and packing our cases ready for our onward journey. Today we were leaving Kruger Manor in Port Stephens to make our way North for New Year, Faye and Graydon were due back and around 2.00pm, after their Christmas break. Our objective for the journey was to at least make Coffs Harbour before contemplating pulling in for the night. Coffs Harbour is a good 4 hours drive North from Port Stephens up the Pacific Highway. Any kilometre beyond Coffs was going to be a bonus in our long journey back to the Sunshine Coast. I was out of bed at 6.00am ... read more

We got a fairly early start to our day and said goodbye to our kangaroo filled tourist park. We set the GPS for Texas, Queensland and at first it started to try and send us on a route that would have taken us over the mountains on a dirt road. We quickly made adjustments and headed instead up the coast toward Grafton. The Pacific highway cuts through a number of quite touristy looking towns along this stretch as well as passing several banana plantations. After a few hours of heading up the coast, the highway turns inland towards the town of Grafton. Our Iphone, with the international sim card, kicked in at this point and let us know we could finally use the vodaphone network and good thus make normal calls. We stopped in Grafton for ... read more

We’re off! How amazing that this day has actually come. It’s hard to believe we got everything onto the bikes and then us both out on the road heading south. I think the bikes will be brilliant. Though much heavier than what we’re use to, they seem to handle us and the load without any effort. The rubber duffels look like they will work well too, but I’m a bit worried about the panniers. They are only plastic and seem easily damaged. (we’ve already bumped into each other and scratched them.) ... read more
