What a lovely welcome, we are staying at Brad’s aunties. It is so nice I feel like im in 4* hotel, a massive house double rooms each & a bathroom to share. We settled in very nicely Irene Brads mum came and got us early to give us a mini tour of the town. We drove all along the sea out towards Norah Heads, we counted 17 ships all queuing for coal as this is very big here in these parts of the world. Following day we got up at silly o’clock 5.30am to go for a walk with Brads mum & aunt. My god I did not realise how unfit I was, how we all were. These girls walk and jump these rocks fast. We started at Norah heads lighthouse, down to the beach and ... read more
Didn't mean to raise a blog for this but have had a few phone calls from concerned people. The Central Coast and Newcastle were declared a disaster zone following a cyclone which passed through the area on Friday and Saturday. Several people have died and many places have been flooded. Sylvia and I are both well. We were in Sydney when the cyclone struck. Our house has some minor damage but is essentially whole. An awning was blown off but otherwise we are unaffected. Thanks for your concern. ... read more

Well, we're committed! We picked up the camper-trailer yesterday and it now sits in our backyard waiting to be "cured". Apart from the house, this is the the most I have spent on anything in my life, even my cars were cheaper. I can't believe I spent this much on what is basically only a tent on wheels with a built-in kitchen but Sylvia assures me it is a great step up from a dome tent. She doesn't have to squat down when she is trying to dress any more! "Curing" involves setting it up and leaving it in a 10 minute rain shower at least four times (the manufacturer's recommendation is 8 times) so that the sewn seams will shrink and ensure it is waterproof. This can be simulated by subjecting it to a dousing ... read more
So where the hell is Budgewoi?
Published: June 21st 2006Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » BudgewoiThis is the question which most people are asking. Travelmate.com has the following description: Picture an island resort nestled among 100-year-old paperbarks protecting a narrow neck of land separating two lakes. Sound too serene to be true? Not if you visit Budgewoi, the resort village that divides Munmorah and Budgewoi lakes at the top of the Central Coast at Sydney’s northern gateway. Sydney and Newcastle families have been holidaying at Budgewoi for generations...and little wonder. With abundant fishing and safe swimming lakes at your doorstep, and surf beaches within walking distance, the town presents the ideal package for a traditional Aussie seaside holiday. The scenic attractions and tourist traps of Lake Macquarie and the rest of the Central Coast are to the immediate north and south. The John Slade Rotary Park, on the north-eastern shoreline of ... read more
Got confirmation today that our camper-trailer will be ready on 29th June which gives us a couple of weeks to get organised before we leave. I'll be posting a map of our proposed travels as soon as I can figure out how to do it. We are setting out on the 10th of July. Our preliminary plan is to travel up the New South Wales coast via Macksville, Yamba and Murwillumbah to visit Sylvia's grandkids, then to head inland through central Queensland (Charleville, Barcaldine, Winton, Mt Isa, Normanton) to the Gulf of Carpentaria. From there we'll head off towards Cairns and then come back home down the pacific coast. We think this will take us about six weeks (it's about 5000 kms) so should be back around the end of August. Really looking forward to this ... read more
