OK, What a long drive. My first leg was almost 700 Miles, which landed me in Blue Ridge GA. First the good news, The scenery was Beautiful!!. Now the bad news. Since I decided to take all back roads, there wasn't any where to pull over and get the spectacular shots of the landscape, but not to worry, we still have a good 12 to 14 days left on this trip. I will be posting a few images that I thought were interesting. Just click on the images to view them larger. I'm sure that tomorrow will yield a great crop of images. I'm tired, I'm going to bed now. Thanks for keeping me company!!! Keep sending those e-mails!!! Joe... read more

Grösste Stadt in New England ist Boston. ... read more

North America » United States » California » Big Sur September 19th 2007

I have been driving to Big Sur along Highway 1 for 4 times during my stay in California for 18 months. It is one of my favorite places on the earth. It is the No. 1 of top 10 romantic places by gayot.com. “Big Sur” means “big mouth” in Spanish. It is not a spot in the map; instead, it is a coastline on Highway 1. The scenic charm can be extended from between Santa Cruz to San Simon. From Carmel to Lucia alone, touring Big Sur on Highway 1 is one of the most captivating drive anywhere. The inland strip along Highway 1 provides access to state parks, redwoods, coastal streams and Los Padres National Forest. My last visit was in mid spring 2006,We set out from Mountain View in south bay (where Google is ... read more

Gandalf replies, "End? No, the journey doesn't end here. There's another path we all must take. The gray rain curtain of this world rolls back, and it will change to the silver clouds, and then you see it." When Pippin asks, "See what?" Gandalf replies, "White shores and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.... read more

Hunger is a necessary experience of travel (and life, I suppose), and when on a budget, there is very little fear of hunger. It is commonplace in a strange land, on a strange form of transportation that might last for days, and often it is satisfied only sparingly when on that well-known budget. But, the local markets do provide wonderfully, as with the vendors along the streets and the friendly strangers who invite you in to quench your thirst, and hopefully (cross your fingers), feed you. Yet there is never a guarantee, and to eat is a necessity. So whip out your wallet of traveler’s checks and foreign currencies and start paying. Or… put it away and enjoy the feast. Let me tell you something: it comes free in many more ways than one. Taking The ... read more

North America » Canada » Ontario » Thunder Bay » Lakehead University September 19th 2007

Hi everyone! Tarkoitus olisi tehdä tällä kertaa Thunder Bay tutuksi. Samalla vastaan myös huutoon valokuvista. Nyt niitä riittää! Niinpä niin. Tein tänään pienen kävely/bussi retken tähän Ontarion maakunnassa sijaitsevaan noin 110 000 asukkaan kyläpahaiseemme. Thunder Bay on perustettu vuonna 1970 silloisten Fort Williammin ja Port Arthurin yhteenliittymä. Jossain siis täällä ollaan jopa Suomea edellä, kuolevien kuntien kuntaliitoksissa... Thunder Bay on hoitanut vuosien saatossa muun muassa vastuullista tehtäväänsä Seinäjoen ystävyyskaupunkina vuodesta 1974 lähtien ja onpa täällä järjestetty hiihdon MM-kisatkin vuonna 1995. Retkellä harjoittelin samalla myös turistina olemista tulevia reissuja varten kuvaamalla mitä mielikuvituksettomimpia paikkoja… Meinasipa keskellä päivää pukata myös pientä casea, kun ”jalkakäytävällä” seisoskeli edempänä hurjan kokoinen punaniska ... read more

If you don't like the weather in Montana...Just hang around it will change quick...Sleep very little last night...I froze my @#$ off. Rancher said it was 15 degrees at his place and I was another couple thousand feet higher so... Awoke to snowflakes, big snowflakes, but they did not stick. The bike by the grace of God miraculously started first crack in sub 20 degree weather. Most have been the cold shock of the water after the engine had been running for 10 hours straight hard. Drove into the Centennial Valley...It was beautiful drive with Red Rocks Wildlife Refuge full of ducks...Meet my first Great Divide rider on dirt bike going the other way. He was french, but lives in Vancouver, and had rode his KLR650 across Canada to Nova Scotia...Down to Florida...Across to New Mexico ... read more

We are going to the garden island of Kauai on the Hawaii Superferry, or so we thought. Inagural voyages were on sale for $5 each way. What a deal. We were going to camp for 2 nights at Haena Beach on the north shore, past Hanalei. My friend, Dorothy, and I completed all the required hoop jumping for obtaining a permit to camp on Kauai. It seems there is nowhere, with the exception of the 2 national parks, to legally camp in Hawaii that is easy. It is free to camp on Kauai (for residents), but we had to send a pdf of our ID's and then fill out, sign and return (again pdf in email) the application and waiver. After receiving our permit, the Superferry was cancelled due to such overwhelming protests on the island, ... read more
