From suburban Calgary we moved back into the scenic areas of the Canadian Rockies and stayed in a great hostel (HI) on the outskirts of Banff. It had a bar and nightly entertainment so there was no need to make the downhill trip to the town centre. The surrounding sites are spectacular, with snow capped peaks all around. A trip up the Gondola and a subsequent small hike upto the weather station gave a superb 360 degree panoramic view of the area. Banff itself is an idyllic town which seems to have an extraordinary number of eateries for its size. A day trip out to Lake Louise was a good call. The lake itself is very pretty with its blue "cloudy" appearance. The Fairmount Chateau Resort, which sits on the lake, is a great place to ... read more

We arrived in San Francisco on the 1st July, after a very long flight from Fiji which felt like it lasted about 3 days. Rewarded by 2 nights in a private room to chill out and get our bearings, before moving on to the USA Hostel which is in the centre of San Francisco, not far from Union Square and all the shops (H&M is very dangerous place when you've been travelling for 3 months, especially when there's a sale on!). So we spent the first few days shopping and exploring, and getting used to the extremely weird weather that they experience here. Sunny and warm, but nearly always misty or windy because of the sea and something to do with a penincular... somebody explained it but ive forgotton. Then on the Friday we took the ... read more

Yo! So, its the end of day 2 for the band, and it's been a very productive day. Most of the band already has their music memorized and we have over half of the show blocked and rolling. We even have a big dance section where we do all these fun hip hop moves. I'm impressed with the caliber of dancers we have in the band! For myself though, it was an unproductive day. I'm sorry to report that I came down with a case of heat exhaustion. I started feeling bad about 1am and wasn't able to play this morning, but I did still march with the band as we were learning the drill and I help keep my section in the right vicinity. I started feeling fine in the after noon, but then we ... read more

Standing by the Art outside the building while we waited for the fire alarm to stop: Me: These blue rocks look like Jell-o. Sara: You know what I haven't had in a long time? Me: Jell-o shots? Sara *nods and laughs* LOVE THIS GIRL.... read more

Touring the landmarks of LA/Hollywood involved hopping on Johnny's bus. Johnny, a New Yorker living in L.A gave us the run-down on the places people want to see from what they've seen on TV. It takes about 40 minutes from Anaheim to get to Hollywood on a Sunday, the i5 was behaving. Touring during the week would be nightmarish. We started off the tour by driving past the Chateau Marmont (John Belushi's last few hours alive), then the Viper Room (River Phoenix o'd there). But here we were driving past these places and Johnny was upset about their deaths whilst making a buck off it. Johnny was quick to point out 'there are no second chances in the States' as we passed by the bail bonds shop on the way to Rodeo Drive. He went on ... read more

Dear All, Tours of Wesleyan University, Trinity and the United States Military Academy follow… WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY Student Body Population--2800 Classroom Performance 78% had a 3.5 or higher Mid 50% Test Scores (if required) 1300-1490 % Out of State 92% % Male 49% I arrived to the campus early and enjoyed a hot breakfast in the school’s dining hall. I was particularly excited to see Wesleyan because of its strong academic reputation. Our tour guide described the school as “mellow”, “open”. I would add that it seems to attract an eclectic group of students. Note To Parents: The tour guides recommended parents and students follow separate tour guides so that parent and student can share different perspectives after the visit. This seemed to work well. Tour Otis was my tour guide. He is a rising sophomore from ... read more

We made the trip up to Great Falls from Grand Teton. We planned this so we did not have to spend too much time in the car prior to getting to Glacier national Park. We were staying in a small cabin (shed) at a campsite just outside of Great Falls. Too far to walk for a beer so we had to bring it in along with a local delicacy (take away pizza). There was entertainment at the campsite - well two locals playing a selection of bluegrass and country songs. It was good in some areas and not so good in others - the jokes and the in between song banter. They were somewhat reminiscent of the "duelling banjoes" scene in the Deliverance. In fact, a request to play that song was received and approved, our ... read more

One day to go before we leave and we aren't even remotely ready to go. Mark needs to fill the garage and I'm still doing laundry. Danny has been packed since Wednesday, April, I do believe, is finally packed. Mark and I have not even started. It's like Mark said, we will be ready to go when we are packed and we won't be packed until we are ready to go. I think we have finally nailed down our travel plans and if all goes well, we will be in MN no later than Thursday morning. I never realized how stressful this travel planning was. I don't know how many mapquest and google maps I've created only to lose them at the end of the night. I am not very internet saavy when it comes to ... read more
