One will do anything for a chance to sleep in their own bed, even if for one night. On the road usually most of the week, I have driven home straight 17 hours to be here. Also, 14 hours, 11 hours, 15 hours, and from locations such as New Orleans, New Jersey, Atlanta, and Houston. Driving is different from flying as it puts you behind the cockpit. There isn’t a security person asking you to dump out your water bottles and take off your shoes. However, on the road, whether you like it or not, you have entered the TRUCKERS DOMAIN. These truckers in America, and the rest of the world, think because they are so big that they can run over the tiny cars. They have their own lifestyles, radio shows, gas stations, etc. which ... read more

The month of October was mostly spent on driving and visiting. On Oct 4, we left our Mountain View home and went to Edmonton and stayed for 3 days with our son Ian. From Oct 7 to Oct 10, we drove for 3 days from Edmonton to Detroit. The weather was pretty wet in upper Michigan. From Oct 10 and 11, we visited Gary's nephew near Detroit and enjoyed two nights stay with the new parents and their lovely daughter Sophia. Gary's sister-in-law and niece Elmira were also there. From Oct 12 to Oct 18, we drove from Detroit to Toronto and stayed with Gary's mother. There we met with friends and relatives every day and ate, ate, ate. On Oct 19, we drove from Toronto to Ottawa to visit our daughter Carmen. On Oct 20, ... read more

Hawaii - Maui Stay 10-31-2007 As soon as I arrived in Honolulu and got off the plane I seen one of the most brilliant rainbows I have ever seen. I thought man what a great way to start the trip. Maria the couchsurfing person picked me up at the airport and drove me to her place. The couch I slept on, which was rather small and probably 12 inches of my body hung off the end but I am not complaining as she is a very nice lady. We went out to eat at Don Ho’s, a famous Hawaiian singer. The food was pretty good and I really loved her friends who were very nice. They talked about lots of different hiking places. I really wanted to get out and hike with a local somewhere in ... read more

Oh Florida, how I always wanted to come here when I was a little kid. Though I have grown up, I still have the good old kid in me and it is still yet flourishing spontaneously and excitedly as ever. We arrived at Florida quite early of the third day of our pilgrimage. Fortunately, I had time to sleep because I turned on the autopilot for most of the flight. We unpacked and headed t our own ways as usual. This time, we had a lot of time to spend. My first destination was the nearest Starbucks. I ordered the Caramel Frappaccino, as usual, drank it and headed off to Miami Beach where I laid on my towel soaking up the rays. I am more of a sightseer and so all I do is, well, ... read more

We walked the famous Boston Freedom Trail today, starting from Boston Common and the Mass State, through P. Revere’s House, the street where the Boston Massacre occurred, to Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, then on to the North T Stop. We followed that Red-brick road till our feet hurt. There were also plenty of spooky historic graveyards along the way thanks to Halloween, the devil’s day. Gustavo didn’t have class today, at least that’s what he told us, so he came along too. We got some American sushi along the trail because Robyn’s Mom had marked it in the map. Gustavo likes my camera. He was pretty astonished when I took some paparazzi style shots in a flutter-shutter way - IMPRESSIVE! We were tired so we killed some time going to a movie, and I showed ... read more

One of the unique experiences we have had over here is the celebration of Halloween, and I have to say we are really missing out back home - particularly the blokes. As a kid halloween is all about trick or treating, getting heaps of 'Candy' and gorging yourself senseless. But for the young adults, Halloween is an excuse for the lovely young ladies to dress up like tramps without being called horrible names......so in a way it is just Candy for adults; eye candy. Anyway the single blokes would love this holiday and it would pay to come and visit during this time of the year!! Well our first experience of Halloween began in DC where Jen taught us Aussies how to carve a Jack'o'Lantern. It was a bit of a group effort, but hat's off ... read more
