Suggested Listening for this Entry: "Cross Road Blues" and "Hell Hound on My Tail" by Robert Johnson. "I Can't Be Satisfied", "Rolling Stone" and "Long Distance Call" by Muddy Waters. Suggested Food and Drink for this Entry: Surely, you're not tired of BBQ and beer yet? Prior to leaving D.C., Ips, the Player and I decided we were going to take a side trip from Memphis into the Mississippi Delta in search of blues, hopefully to be heard in a juke joint. For those of you who don't know what a juke joint is, I offer you Wikipedia's very scientific definition: Juke joint (or jook joint) is the vernacular term for an informal establishment featuring music, dancing, gambling, and drinking, primarily operated by African American people in the southeastern United States. The term "juke" is believed ... read more

Iron Butt SS1000 My family and friends thought I had lost my mind when I announced at dinner a few weeks ago that I was planning an Iron Butt ride. I am sure that not many people have ever heard of or even knows about the Iron Butt rides but since I am sharing this link with friends and family I thought I would take a quick second to explain what the SS1000 is. To qualify for a SS1000 (Saddle Sore 1000) you have to not only ride your bike for 1000 miles in under 24 hours but you have to document your ride. My ride actually started several weeks before I left. I had to make a few changes to my bike. The two biggest things were that I added a Versa Cruise Control and ... read more

Today we're having a down day and not traveling anywhere. We went to Wal-Mart to get groceries and cleaning supplies. Nancy asked the clerk a bunch of questions. Here are the answers. Yes, some of the Cabela family still lives in town. The house where they started their mail-order business is going to be a museum filled with mounted trophy animals. Almost everyone in town and in the surrounding towns either works at Cabela's or Wal-mart. The mill is closed now. It used to do something with hops that were shipped in from Washington. The town is doing well and hunting season is their busiest time, with Cabela's having ten hour shifts. After lunch, we took a walk aroung the 3 1/2 acre pond and went to the tourist office. Rich asked how much snow ... read more

Not even hurricane Kyle could stop the free flowing Brew at point Sebago! So before I get on to telling this story, I would like to precede it with some helpful hints at attending ANY Brew Festival. 1. Always have a designated driver. 2. If you don't have one, make sure you have at least an hour per drink to sober up before heading back to your desitnation (Tons to do at Point Sebago, so that shouldn't be a problem). 3. Talk with people, see the vendors, chat it up with folks and share their Brew. 4. Make sure you have money for the local food vendors there are many good and salty treats to be had at these festivals that compliment brews very well. 5. Be prepared for the weather. If you're cold and damp ... read more

Thrifty Travel Tip #8: The KOA campgrounds will never know you were there if you're in at 8 and out by 6; if you don't use the water, you won't hurt them economically either. Don't pay for what you don't use. Hi, Hello, and Good day Family and Friends 3 We woke up well rested and happy after our adventures the night before at NAU. I found our sweet, generous host lying on the floor of his room with a pillow and a towel as a blanket. Talk about a bleeding heart! I gently woke him at 6:30 - we were asked if we could leave before 8 as though not to surprise his roommate, which isn't a problem when you gain 3 hours - thanked him, and suggested he moved to his bed. By 7, ... read more

Today is all that matters The day started trying to figure out what day it was and what time it was. Rita thought it was Friday. Jerry thought it was Saturday. The motel had one time, Rita another, and Jerry yet another. At least for the moment, we decided we really didn't care. Having lost all sense of date and time, one realizes how relaxed and outside of reality we are hovering. It is an unbelievable place to be. We realize we are acting like we have not a care in the world. That in itself is worth millions! So, we decide to focus on today and today alone. We are within an hour of the Canada/U.S. border and decide we will just get going and get across the border. Canada has been awesome but we ... read more

Hi there! We're both home now. India was amazing! The ashram was heaven on earth. It was so mystical, beautiful and a life changing experience for me. I meditated, practiced yoga and helped run the mini snack area called Amrit. I really purified and feel like a new woman. What a blessing to have had the opportunity to spend time there. The ashram is located in the Tansa Valley in a little village called Ganeshpuri. It's about 2.5 hours from Mumbai. I was there during monsoon so it rained a lot and the land was very green and lush. Although it rained a lot there were still plenty of sunny days and it was very hot and humid the whole time. I had the opportunity to do some volunteer work with Prasad, which is a charity ... read more

Today is the beginning of something I hope will be a continuous activity from here on out in my life. My friends (Ben and Edgar) and I are going to go hike at St. Joseph Hill in Los Gatos, CA. One night, Ben and I got into some serious talking of just doing more in our lives and seizing the day; hence, carpe diem. We came to the conclusion to do something out of the ordinary of our routine life and go somewhere once a week. This week we decided to go hiking on a trail in the Los Gatos area. This is the second time that I go hiking and I'm excited. There is more that I wish to say but we are leaving soon as my neighbors, Ben and Edgar, are banging at my ... read more
