Well I have yet to get very far in my Pho quest/reviews. Last week I did find myself at Than VI here in the U-District - with the sign of 'Best' Sandwich on University. I ordered the sandwich which was on the appetizer menu for $2 and also a bowl of seafood soup (pho). The sandwich was BIG for $2. The seafood soup was typical - with side of bean sprouts, basil, hoisen and chili sauce to add. I will be back there for the$2 sandwich. Remember, mexican is never as good as in AZ or Mexico - I was dragged to mexican for lunch. I am sure there are decent places, maybe the taco stand people from work avoid...i may have to go just to see. Nights seemed to be filled with high end eats...there ... read more

Well I am in Seattle for work, and will be here everyweek through July. Commuting from Phoenix. I am trying to make an adventure out of this. My home away from home is the Watertown Hotel here in the University District of seattle. It is an awesome Urban private hotel with wine tasting everynight! They also have bikes to use and other amenities that make up for not getting any points. Afterall when I travel for fun i prefer off the beaten path places. The last time i used points for a hotel, one of us got food poisoning from breakfast at the Westin - all this after eating road side stands. I digress - stay here if you can afford one night (i can say that easily as this is expensed) http://www.watertownseattle.com/ Walking around the ... read more

Growing up in Vancouver, Seattle becomes an easy place to visit and as a result, wasn't a place that I felt a great need to explore further. But then, it's always friends that make a place and I had a couple of people to hook up with. I left my hostel rather early in the morning as I had been told that catching the setup of Pike Place Market was interesting to watch. I was thankful it wasn't as early as the fish market in Tokyo, (starting there at 5am!!) although I think my 8am arrival was out of the ordinary. All I saw were sleepy eyed people with coffees in hand waiting for the boss to arrive. I snapped a couple of photos, didn't catch a couple of fish as they so routinely throw out ... read more

The drive to San Fransisco was long, the longest we've done so far. In all it took about 8 hours but the drive was really beautiful. It's really weird to see the landscape change so dramatically as you drive. So far its been all beaches, sand and palm tress but as we drove further up the coast, the beach just meets sheer cliff face and grassy hills. Palm trees were replaced with beautiful redwoods, and flat plains replaced with farms and plantations. Just really beautiful to see it change so dramatically right in front of your eyes. We finally got to San Fransisco and had arranged to stay with a friend of a friend of a friend - Steve. We didn't even know the guy, but he was quite happy to take us in. He lives ... read more

Getting up at 4.30 in the morning when you are massively in sleep deficit was easier than I thought it would be. Joel kindly offered to take us to the airport, and Becky and Tim also surfaced to say another goodbye which was good of them. It was extremely cold outside, about 0 degrees F, and the car's windows had ice on them. We got to the airport in plenty of time, and we said goodbye to Joel who had been a fantastic host all week, and it was great to know we could be such great friends even after fifteen years. The flight to Seattle was two hours, but we lost an hour so we actually landed at seven in the morning. The catch was that we didn't fly out until 22.30 that night. Breakfast ... read more

It is 5 AM and Im eating a croissant and a very bitter latte (maybe the grossest latte I have ever had....THANKS STARBUCKS!) I am currently in purgatory. Not at home and not in Argentina. Just sitting and waiting for a direction. Everyone thinks I left last night, the 18th, for Houston, but guess what? I didnĀ“t. We were so close to getting on that flight. They had put us in first class. Mama and I looked at each other, allowing ourselves on a quick glance because surely if we had said anything we would have been found out (we are not allowed to fly first class on standby because we dont work for the company.) We were In the heirarchy of flying standby we were on the bottom wrung. After a couple of hours of ... read more

Aloha Everyone! And Mahalo (Thank you) to all of our friends and family that were able to make it to our Washington Wedding Reception in Mukilteo. We had a great time spending time with everyone in Washington and much of this road trip would not be possible if it were not for you. So one more time, Mahalo! Now on to the good stuff. Technically we started this road trip on December 28th as we left Claremont, California and headed North to the land of snow and record-breaking rainfall (Seriously, 35 days and counting). We stayed in Sacramento for a night with Andrea (Grover) and Christ Bergquist. Unfortunately, we were just getting the tires on the car and forgot to take pictures. The locals showed us a great time in the California State capital. The sushi ... read more

On Saturday, I'll be flying out of Seattle, arriving on Monday in Sydney (long flight + IDL crossing). It's been a busy 2 weeks getting things ready for the trip (stateside), it will be just as - and probably busier - the 2 weeks in Sydney, getting things ready for the trip. On this side (the US), I've assembled most of the gear, some of the food, packed all my stuff to be put in storage (while I'm away) - so, I guess I'm about ready to leave. Things to be done in Syd, include: pick up the kayak (ordered months ago - shipped from the UK to a kayak shop in Syd.), get the rest of the food (up to 12 months worth), pack food away (to be mailed to me (poste restante) in roughly ... read more

Signs have been guiding us all along our West Coast adventure. The moment we got off the highway to enter downtown, a billboard overlooking the thoroughfare announced: Party of Two, Your City is Ready! We arrived in Seattle on the 30th and stayed in our room, gathering strength and energy for our fabulous New Year's Eve blowout at the Space Needle. Taking advantage of the break in driving and sight-seeing, the Boy dexterized on his laptop until the wee hours of the morning. It was early afternoon before we woke up. Hoping the worst of the cold was over, we ventured out towards Pike Place. However, a few minutes in the drafty winds, and Marce's cough alerted us to the contrary. We returned to the safety and warmth of our room. We reappeared that evening in ... read more

Yes, I'm still alive, and if you noticed the masthead thing says, "Seattle," you'd be right. I'm in town for another two days and then I go back to Korea for the rest of my trip. I've had a good trip so far, but have taken painfully few pictures, and it just doesn't seem like I've had enough time to do the stuff that I've wanted to do. So, no pics this time, and just a few updates. I haven't many interesting stories from the past couple months...I went to Beomeosa again and got some good pictures again. I joined the band mentioned in the last blog and am now singing (well, it closely approximates singing, although it tends to be more of a "butchering") in the band. We play three songs, and are mostly doing ... read more
