Its a late dinner tonight. Wandering past the Neptune where i have taken in a couple of good movies, i noticed that Celestine Prophecy movie was on this week, I thought to myself oh man i need to eat and go cath the 9:40 showing since I will be at 2 concerts this week. Its only playing for 1 week. Well I go to Ruby, a bar/eatery with ecclectic unmatched furniture to match the the food. I just had a cliantro pesto eggplan sandwich that rocked! I open the computer to do some work, and low and behold - there is free wi-fi. Ok whats the big deal? Well this seems to be sponsered by the University of Washington AND by the city for business's along University Ave. Drinking my beer, surfing.. and its 9:55 15 ... read more

It has been a while, and a number of corners of Seattle have been explored. I sit here sipping a Vallerosa white at the Hotel's Wine tasting. Free wine tastings when I hit the streets traveling for pleasure wont be in abundance. In the past month since my updated, I have been to Safeco Field - scored free baseball tickets with Jay. Second game of the season, cool field. Garlic Fries were awesome there! Did the Pike Street Market area with Bruce/Elizabeth - we hit up Brooklyns which has a oyster paired with different voodka topped with caviar sampler. Exquisite! We ate woodfired pizza in Captial Hill which was good, but Cibo in Phoenix is still my favorite Top Pot! This is a seattle mainstay now. Very cool architecture at the one we went too. April 12 - 15 We decided to take a side trip from Boise over to the Tacoma, Washington area. It is a 1,100 mile version of a side trip. But since Scott was further delayed with getting the airplane to Idaho, and visiting a fellow retired airline friend of mine had been a possibility from the beginning of the trip planning, we decided to take in the Columbia River drive. I had never spent much time in Oregon. In fact, only a few airline layovers in Portland. Maria, of course, is seeing a new state each time we cross a state line. The drive along the Oregon shore of the river affords some truly spectacular views. With just a few exceptions, all along the river you could easily convince yourself you are in another country. After a well appreciated sleep, we awoke to low clouds and rain. Looks like the dismal weather had set in for the day! Today we were meeting an old school friend of Liisa’s, Kim, who she was in high school with her eons ago at the hotel and then heading into Seattle for some sightseeing. As Kim was familiar with Seattle, we decided it would be a good idea for her to do the driving. Our first port of call was the Space Needle after driving around trying to find a place to park. Luckily not many people were out and about quite so early in the morning, so we didn’t have to compete with throngs of tourists. The view of surrounding Seattle as we shot up in the lifts in the Space Needle was amazing, ... read more

It was with a rude awakening that the alarm rang woke us up at 4:15 am Thursday morning, especially as we didn’t finish packing until gone 2am due to last minute bits and pieces being thrown together! Our taxi arrived in his nice minivan at 5:30 to take us to Heathrow and he regaled throughout the journey the pros of having Sat Nav on his van, not something that one is interested in at that time of day! Whizzed through check-in and a few hours later we boarded the plane to start our 10 ½ hour trip to San Francisco. Flying over Greenland was especially spectacular. The mountains and numerous massive glaciers were awe inspiring, and then there was the stunning scenery of Baffin Island and the cracks in the pack ice surrounding the area. Perhaps ... read more

Portland was the next stop after Eureka, and just in time to experience Portland's record low temperatures. It was cold, VERY cold and Portland will forever be etched in my memory as the place with the freakish weather. We stayed with Theresa's friend, Scott, in his house that instantly felt like home. Scott was cool and Portland was a cool place, not only because of it's weather, but also because it seemed like a really young city with lots of musical and artistic happenings. We didn't indulge in any of these happenings, instead, we hit the gay bars for a trashy night and then felt crap the next day. We gave ourselves some time to recover and then motored on up to Seattle and met another of Theresa's friends, Bruce, and his fiance Renee. They were ... read more

Today was a day to sample 2 thai places on University Ave. First up for lunch was Thai 65 - they had a good lunch special. I had spicy eggplant with tofu, and it was combo'd with pad thai and rice for lunch. Walking around this evening, and after browsing the sale books at the university book store.. i had to determine what was next. I did get a book on large roadside attractions in the USA for 90% off - which was a whopping 1.25 or something. It does have the Muskie in Hayward, WI. Which I missed visiting because i was racing in Chequamogen. Ok, so i am like I should get some Pho, but thai was still on the mind. Wondering on down, and getting asked for change 4 times in 2 block, ... read more
