My last day in Seattle, Dave had to go back to work, so Jeremy planned for a few hours on Lake Washington. So I get a call around 11:30 or so saying that he's headed over. I finish getting most of my stuff packed, since I have to leave Daves around 4:30ish to get to the Airport on time. Carina comes along since Dave is at work, and we head to Jeremys parents house. After we remove the tarp from the boat, we realize it needs a little cleaning, so we quickly get to it, clean up, hook up, and go pick up beer and snacks. So we get to the launch site, I didn't realize I was gonna have to get wet here. I'm wearing Jeans and tennis shoes... oh well, I roll my jeans ... read more

Wow... I don't even know what to say about this. We did a 4 mile trek up a mountain, at the top was the most beautiful lake called Melakwa Lake.  Melakwa stands for Mosquito, luckily for me I didn't see any, must've been a little chilly for them.  We picked a spot under some trees to have a little picnic as it started raining. Oh man... this was just it!! So peaceful and serene, cool, beautiful, ice still floating in the lake... it was just amazing! Then fog, or clouds, just starting rolling in across the lake, we just watched it engulf the mountains in front of us, and as it hugged it's way around the lake and all around us.... it was amazing! I have no idea how to describe it, I hope the pictures ... read more

We start the day off rolling into downtown Seattle, and park right outside of Vons (which is a local bar & restaurant with bad reviews) where Dave has a friend Scott that runs a Coffee Stand. Scott hooks us up with some of the best coffee I've ever had, and just kicks back chatting with us for a good 30 minutes or so. Everyone seems so friendly out here, like they all have time for you, maybe this is an illusion, but it's kinda cool, a sharp contrast from the people in Vegas. Next door to Scott’s coffee cart was a Day Spa/Beauty Salon... what a prime location this guy has. The women coming out of this place were something else. Anyway… Downtown has such an awesome atmosphere... people walking to and from work, home, pubs, ... read more

A little background on this trip. One of my best friends, Dave, and his wife Carina had come down to Las Vegas for my wedding that never happened (a whole other story!). After a week and a half of partying hard with them, I decided I'd take the time and money I'd put away for the honeymoon on a little holiday, and go back to Seattle, Washington, with them. So I did. Please keep in mind, I've been stuck in a desert for 7 years by this time, the color green was but a distant memory. The following has been extracted from my personal blog. Well then... Dave & Carina sure know how to make for an interesting first night, thats for sure. We arrived at SeaTac airport to beautiful 64 degree weather, a far cry ... read more

Geo: 47.6034, -122.33Another great place. Stayed with friend TA & girlfriend who had a giant bunny rabbit & assorted other pets. Went to Pike Place Market -and the Space Needle and Coffee Houses of course & some good bookshops near the university or the "U" District(& the cavernous University Bookstore, 4326 University Way NE). I remember in the bars there were laminated cards saying try this nice cocktail - cider & lager (snakebite) aka looney juice that you'd get thrown out of some places at home for asking for! Also saw a Meg Ryan being filmed in something - Sleepless in Seattle perhaps?? And took a trip to North Bend in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, the place where the pilot episode of 'Twin Peaks' was filmed & went to the 'Damn Fine Cherry Pie' ... read more

The Los Angeles Geographical Society's 1962 trip to Alaska began with a Western Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Seattle. Before heading to Alaska, Valene had scheduled a day's stopover in Seattle to visit the 1962 World's Fair, the Century 21 Exposition. I was very excited to ride the World's Fair Monorail from downtown to the fairgrounds (now the Seattle Center). The Seattle monorail was built by the same company that built the Disneyland Monorail and was very similar to it. The Space Needle had been built as the fair's theme structure and became Seattle's icon. Among the things I remember most was visiting the World of Century 21 Pavilion, where librarians from around the country demonstrated advances in the nascent field of library automation under the auspices of the American Library Association. They produced on-demand ... read more
