Here begins the adventure of 12 months solo racing and chilling out around the world. Africa-Asia-New Zealand-South and North America from May 05-May06. It really is racing, 24 countries in all! So so so many stories to tell and sights to see...

And now that that crazy year is over with, I have moved back to Vancouver (with a stopover in the UK, Iceland and New York!) and am launching a new life. The Babe With A Backpack travel shows have been established in Vancouver, the book is edited, and I'm planning the next trip...UGANDA IN JULY '08! Will try and keep this updated in addition to www.babewithabackpack.com.

Cheers everyone!

Well well well...I made it! I have a love hate relationship with blogging, but as I have such a joy telling travel stories I really should just get on with it! So here I am...having returned from CHINA!! The experience leading up to being chosen as a semifinalist in the best travel job ever has been overwhelming and exciting. I've already mentioned the re-connecting with old travel buddies and learning the ins and outs of social networking in trying to get the voting stats up, but there was no way I could have prepared myself for the experiences IN China. Everything that I hungered for, I got. And then some. Whenever I return from a trip, people always ask what my favourite part was, and I re-emphasize the difficulty in responding with just one answer. Do ... read more

The race for the most votes in the Best Travel Job Everhas stepped up a few notches with some amazing entries. I've held 4th position for awhile now, but I'm still hoping to race towards a medal finish. It's amazing how this competition has taken over my life. Of course I really want the opportunity to travel and document my experiences with the world, so it's important for me to reach out in as many ways as possible to get support and awareness and increase my daily votes. In doing this, I have had such a blast taking photos, making new videos, meeting new people AND reconnecting with old travelling buddies. It's made me think a little more about those folks that live on the other side of the world, but still share memories with me. ... read more

WOW- this competition continues to be an absolute RIOT. Although my caffeine intake has shot off the charts as I stay up all night searching, checking and updating everything I can--it's worth it! When I first started my travel blogs I didn't include any videos, I was all about developing the words and simply adding photos. And now? I've got the video travel bug. I find myself furiously scribbling into my notebook throughout the day and night, so that I don't forget ideas or images that float across my mind. Examples are all over the board: -capture the new magnolia flowers in Vancouver -tell them about that classic joke from Laos -take them snowshoeing while Vancouver actually has some amazing snow -somehow use the atomic fart application from my phone In a way, I look forward ... read more

The race is well and truly on. Best Travel Job Ever. Sounds like something up my alley eh? And now it’s time to fill you in... A couple of weeks ago, I put together a video application and uploaded it onto the Best Travel Job Ever website. It was such a riot going to locations around Vancouver and finding different ways to show my travel passion and character in a 4 minute clip. And why go to all the effort? Well, here’s the deal: -the judges will choose 6 semi-finalists from the top 25 voted applicants -the 6 semi-finalist wil be sent by Air Canada and Flight Centre on an Intrepid tour in Southeast Asia, South America or Europe, WITH a video camera from Henry’s AND gear from Roots -after filming video blogs over the summer, ... read more

I've been settled in Vancouver for a couple of months now so I suppose it's time to inform everybody what I'm up to. However, it may be easier to tell you what I'm NOT doing!! I am hosting another 'Around the World' talk as the 'Babe with a Backpack' on THURSDAY JANUARY 18TH & again on THURSDAY JANUARY 25TH. Day One: Robin Hood's Bay to Littlebeck When my RTW trip came to an end last May, I immediately began racking my brain for something challenging that I could plan in my near future. I organised the travel talk in a London theatre (was a fab night!!) but still felt that I needed a physical and geographic challenge, within the UK. What I came up with, had never been something that I had aspired to do, but it ticked all the right boxes for me. Walking in England has been ingrained into the lifestyles of many that live within the rolling hills. And though I have been on many day hikes during my 10 years in this country, I have never completed a long distance walk. So I chose to complete the Coast to Coast ... read more

I'll be the first to admit I've not been so hot at writing blog entries for the end of my trip, but I have a good excuse!! I'M TALKING ABOUT IT!! I have actually managed to put together a wild night in London called "AROUND THE WORLD...TALES OF A BABE WITH A BACKPACK". I know there are enough of you subscribers based in London, so you have no excuse to miss out. And for those of you based in Brighton, it's a quick train ride! I would really love to see those fellow travellers I met along the way, and I promise you, coming to my show from Glasgow, Bristol or Cardiff WILL be worth it! I even have a couple of mates coming over from Portugal and Holland, so you can do it too!! COME ... read more

My journey across Canada has continued eastbound to Manitoba, first setting foot in Winnipeg. Nothing immediately grabbed me about the streets of this city, so I found a donut shop and ran my finger down my list of nearby hostels. Most hostel owners seem to find locations nearest bus stations, which I greatly appreciate considering my map reading skills. I circled the winning write up, and set off. Within a few moments I did a couple of backpacking pirouettes on the street just trying to confirm the right direction, and was quickly approached by a local laughing at my dance moves. "Unless your heading towards the polar bears in Churchill, you'll find the hostel is actually right behind you" declared Paul. The sidewalk directions were followed by suggestions for a cheap place to eat and a ... read more

Canada has it's fair share of unusual town names, Moosejaw being the first that I've hit. Whilst sitting on the Greyhound from Alberta, the image of a goofy looking horse with horns talking non stop on the seat next to me kept popping into my head. Of course it never came to life, which is clearly a good thing as I don't really want to be that crazy on my travels. After a not so restful sleep rolling along the flatlands through the night, I thought my eyes were having some colour issues when I managed to pry them open. The horizon in front of me was such an intense blend of orange and red, it managed to bring me to my senses rather quickly. I suppose the license plate statement, 'Land of the Living Skies' ... read more
