WAUWWW!!! - From: Babe With A Backpack Returns
Hey, how buzy are you these days!! I am for the moment on a visit in Belgium because I missed Christmas at home, so you know, presents and dinners are now my main concern!! And I am already thinking how to lose the kilo's again after these two weeks:-) my second concern! But Next week we will be back in Egypt were we will stay for the winter, so we are still sailing, and now also diving!! Fantastic, realy, we have been diving with dolphins for a compleet hour last time! So we are also enjoying our time, and with Johan is everything realy back to normal! No complaints! I guess there is a down in every relationship and we overcame it well, luckily! As you can see my English is still not much better, but my Arabic is though! :-) It was nice to have news from you and I will also keep you posted on our scedule, and if you would hit Egypt by any chance in the near future, let us know so we can make a nice boatparty!!! I wish you all the best for 2007 and wish you all of luck with all your projects, traveling, intervieuws etc.... The next project for us would be driving the silk route from Venice to Shanghai, but it may take some more years before we reach that goal, but it is really my dream to do that!! We'll see what happens but in the mean time we sail a little and that's also big fun!! big hug and kiss XX

cafe con piernas - From: A Taste of Chile
first, i'm glad you enjoyed your time in chile. second, my grandmother lives in the same building your hostel was in, el portal fernandez concha. third, that cafe in your picture really isn't a cafe con piernas. if i'm not mistaken, it's one of the many "cafe haiti" around downtown, which is a pretty standard male-oriented coffee shop. the cafe's with legs are actually in tinted windows and the servers usually only wear a swimsuit/bikini or lingerie, not just short shirts like these lovely ladies in the picture. i've enjoyed your travels very much. hope you keep travelling.

Hey, good to see pictures of sydney again, it is a very good place i assume you were staying in the big youth hostel at the bottom of george street, my god that one's very exspensive. A lot better than my one bedroom in balmain. It's a big place and needs at least 1 month to see all it's charms, even then you'll miss bits. Ron (well done on the blog, it's very good)

'Glad you saw boot camp! - From: Moose Tales Under the Saskatchewan Skies
Hello Fiona, It is great to see you back online. I guess you sorted out the computer glitches. It was wonderful seeing you in Ontario and I hope all goes well back in the UK. Please keep in touch. I am happy you went to the RCMP's Depot where all recruits are trained. I was one of them back in '86 and I can tell you, it is rough! Recruits want to "earn" their boots because then they can march from class to class instead of running. It is paramilitary but has become more "collegiate" than in the past, focussing on the studies with a little less on the discipline aspect. I would have to say it is THOROUGH! Some of my college grads are heading that way in the next year, or so. My neighbour has been redoing the museum for almost six months. Was it still a work in progress while you were there? Catherine

Ellusive New Mexico - From: In and Out of New Mexico
Fiona, Sometimes its tough for a small hostel to provide service arround the clock, but we need at least to be polite about it! As for New Mexico, there is much to be discovered here, but it takes work. We have the best varves in the world. Our ancient pueblos are really special, but the inhabitants may be rather secretive, yet friendly ( paraphrase of a pueblo leaders recent comments). Thanks for your brief visit, photos are great!

Hey there you traveling girl!!! Well, after reading of your Laotian adventure, I have to say I'm absolutely itching to go....Your pictures and descriptions are absolutely breathtaking and i just loved the idea of a virtually non-tourist destination....I want to go and pedal around on a bike and do sightseeing like you did--that just sounds like the ultimately simple, but fascinating way to see the countryside....Life's good in Korea....I'm loving my new job as a professor!! I lost your email address, or else I would've written sooner!! Good luck and can't wait to hear your about your next adventure....PS--i LOVE your 'magic-permed' hair!! hi....had to say that of all the places you have been these shots of Thailand gave me goose bumps! What a gorgeous place....could easily forget about time on one of those beaches. I know you are having the best ever so keep it up. Just came back from New York with Liam which was fabulous. Saw Daniel briefly in NY and he is thrilled and scared about being the new James Bond...what a great life we have and i loved your comment about the people you meet being the best part of travelling...couldn't agree more. Liam told me when we met again in New York after he had been to LA and i had been to St. Louis that i "collected wonderful people" nice thought. love you and i know you will keep in touch. also saw JoJo peter ross and blaise who came to New York for a day and we had mucho fun.

about the tortoise - From: 3 Blind Men en route to Hanoi
uhm, it's not really what the legend about. That tortoise gave Le Loi (later became Vietnam's emperor) a magic sword that help him to defeat the chinese. Then after that, he returned that sword to the tortoise at this lake. That's why its named Hoan Kiem. Hoan Kiem means "give back the sword"

that was a good night, a good week in fact but it all changed at about 8 the next morning. one of the single worst experiences of my life. the boat and bus to bangkok that day were a semi living hell. but enough about that. its best to try and forget lest we never drink again. we liked ko chang so much that when we collected our friends in bangkok we just turned right around and went back.

A-ha! you have made it to my ultimate destination.. those temples with the trees take my breath away every time.. what came first i wonder? And the kids..how cute are they? The cambodian people must have much happiness in their lives to promote so much smiling =) I still can't get over how intricate the ancient civilications were in their building and carving..what have we lost over all these years.. life today just seems far too busy and too distant... have you practiced your mediatation in any temples yet? The butterflies are so beautiful... the pic with the orchid and the butterfly would be a perfect poster.. how serene it must have been to be relaxing in the butterfly place! A korean restaurant in Sihanoukville? - From: Crazy Coffeecat in Cambodia
Hi! I was in Cambodia several years ago and am planning on going back in November. I'm wondering how things have changed in that time. I live in Korea now, and if there was a Korean restaurant in Sihanoukville two years ago then I missed it. I'm hooked on kimchi! Sihanoukville was a very sleepy little town when I was there...barely seemed alive at times...I went swimming in the sea and could count the other beach bums on my fingers. I was there in March...I think...I don't know why it was so empty. Where did you find out about the snorkeling boat? I didn't see that when I was there two years ago either. Sounds fun....good descriptions!

Dear Fiona, great journal, I enjoy the read. Since our joint attempt to do a skydive in Namibia was ruined due to sand storm, I had to find another spot. It turned out to be Plettenberg Bay in South Africa. I am telling you: you just have to do it. It was f...king awesome!! I was terrified in the plane, but once your out there, it is no way back and it was absolutely fantastic. It is hereby recommended to everyone. Plettenberg Bay is suppose to be one of the most scenic jumps in the world, beautiful coastline. Go Fiona!! Hay you, glad to see you’re on your way & having a great time, love the photos, not too sure the mud suits…lol. I’m sure I’ve seen that Monastery in quite a lot of films, ‘Indiana Jones’ springs to mind. Amazing how they’ve carved it straight out of the rock face. Wow I'm blown away by your latest journal from Egypt. The pictures are terrific. Keep these journals coming. They are a highlight in my day. I am saving them all on my hard drive as insurance. Imagine being on the Nile and being advised not to touch the water! That tells me a lot about the country. Love, Ian
