Today was a beautiful day in Myrtle Beach. Weather was perfect, the ocean was warm, and the atmosphere was one of normalization: people being people again, most respecting other peoples' spaces. Spent the day with long-time friends, Jim and Maureen Purcell. Jim was my Sergeant and then Lieutenant at the Attleboro Police Department, some 40 years ago. We reminisced about "the old days" way back, when things were so different, especially in light of recent policing news. It's great to catch up with people we were so close with, a tight-knit group of some mostly really great, caring officers. Jim is now a TSA training officer and Maureen works at "The Alabama Theater", the greatest live variety show in Myrtle Beach. Myrtle Beach is a great vacation resort on the Atlantic Ocean in South Carolina ... read more

Got to Georgetown on Tuesday and stopped to wait out weather and flooding in Myrtle Beach. Lots of current and debris in the water from rain over the past few weeks. I don't want to bend another shaft by running over another log . I'll probably head out Sunday or Monday. If I wasn't a fair weather sailor and had more experience in the ocean and wasn't by myself and blah blah, I would go out for an overnight and come back in Masonborro inlet at Wrightsville Beach. Instead I will take the ICW when the weather is right. I like Georgetown better than Beaufort. The marina is very nice and it is right in town. Easy walking to many restaurants. The Riverwalk is nice and a few restaurants have outside decks looking over the river. ... read more

It took a month for all the parts to come in. Everyone was blaming it on Covid19. Nothing left in stock and reduced staff at warehouses and could not guarantee mail. They couldn't explain why 2 companies sent the wrong part and had to reorder. Ha. The job took about 40 min total. Hopefully it is fixed and I can roll now. I'm leaving at 6 tomorrow morning. Hope to get at least to Charleston. I really like this little marina. Small and laid back filled with very nice people. Nice little town with lots of good eating places with open decks. Bike friendly. Great place to wait out the bad weather up north. I have heard the Chesapeake Bay has been angry for a few weeks. Maybe it will all calm down before I get ... read more

I've been hopping up the coast making 9 to 10 hours a day. Anchored in Factory Creek in Beaufort SC. Wind got up and I was dragging anchor. Somehow got the anchor up with no damage and tied up at Lady's Island Marina. Next day discovered a hole in my exhaust pipe. Now I am in fix it mode again. Waiting for parts to come in the mail. Who knows how long that will take. Not a bad placevto wait though. Foid, groceries, and restaurants are all close by. The town of Beaufort is right across the bridge. A 15 min ride across the bridge. I am a long 10 to 11 hours from Charleston. I hope to do it in one day. I did it ten years ago by hitting the tides exactly right. Hopefully can ... read more

Charleston Blog 15th February 2020 Charleston, the South Carolina port city founded in 1670, is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel antebellum houses, particularly in the elegant French Quarter and Battery districts. The Battery promenade and Waterfront Park both overlook Charleston Harbor, while Fort Sumter, a federal stronghold where the first shots of the Civil War rang out, lies across the water. The South Carolina Aquarium is another coastal attraction and is popular for its 385,000-gallon Great Ocean Tank. Nearby, the circa-1773 Charleston Museum showcases the history of the South Carolina Lowcountry region. Many refined Downtown restaurants also specialize in Lowcountry cooking, which blends Southern U.S., African, French and Caribbean flavors. Beyond Downtown, Magnolia Plantation and Gardens offers a glimpse of t... read more

The one about the First Day on the Road. I spent two weeks in NJ over Christmas, enjoying those NJ grandkids, and made it home to NC 12/28. It took me the better part of 2 days to clean up from that trip, then put away Christmas decoration, all before I could think about packing for my 2020 Snowbird trip. I had lot of help and offers of help; Tim and Ben helped me one day load all the groceries and clothes, then Lilly helped me Thursday with the refrigerated things. I did not sleep well Thursday night, the night before departure. I woke up at 4 and went to sit in front of the TV. I had put my internet and cable TV on vacation break for 2 months, and I was told it would ... read more

We are at the part of any trip where we start making changes to the itinerary because we realize we were over ambitious in what we wanted to try and see and maybe more, because the aging process is catching up with us, and a few more minutes of sleep each day becomes very important. Today is our last day and we originally had three things on the schedule, one we did yesterday so now we have two, so the day will not be as rushed. The only thing we took off the itinerary was breakfast at the local hotspot. Will save some time and money by just eating another vegetable frittata. The trip has been a good one and I am glad we finally made it to Charleston. This like Savannah and New Mexico have ... read more

Sunday in Charleston, since most sites are closed or have shortened hours today, it was a good opportunity to sleep in and have a relaxing day. We slept in until about 9, Tarragon wanted to be fed at his normal time 6:30, but he just had to wait. He just laid next to me so he could be the center of attention until I decided to get up. We had very little planed today, Brunch, a museum and a bit of shopping for the refrigerator magnet and a tea towel for Christina (this is our tradition we ever either of us go on a trip). We took our time getting ready and tip the housekeeper, Caroline. She had the next two days off and we wanted to make sure she was tipped directly because she did ... read more

Just pulled into Charleston after four anchorages. It's a very nice marina. Staying here a few days, my brother is coming aboard Monday. If the weather holds we may be on Fernandina Beach by Sunday or Monday. The weather has been chilly but perfect for running the ICW. Sunny and low winds. Next few days is Laundry, oil and transmission fluid change, and restock. Then on to the Sunshine State. ... read more

We rented the car for two days, so we could do a few things outside of Charleston proper. Yesterday was the Antebellum South, and to day is a History Lesson./ Since we did not have to pick up the car, we did get to rest our weary bones a bit longer this morning and the three of us could lounge in bed before the day began. Yesterday I made the huge mistake of not taking a pain pill for my back, which I paid for (well Jerry paid for because I was a b***ch by the end of the day) dearly. Today, I took the pill and it made for a much more pleasant day, with almost no lower back pain. We had a quick breakfast before we headed out of town. Five days of vegetable ... read more
