Woke up at noon because I don't have a phone charger and it was dead. I still have a cold, but it's not real bad. Just sniffling. Found out my passport is being processed! Yes! That means it should be at my house by mid-December. I'm going to want to avoid the holiday travel rush, so I'll probably head to New Zealand around mid-January. But I can at least start working on my plane tickets again! :) Woke up, took a shower, worked on the laptop for a bit, went through my email, at a bagel, went to a few stores and bought some stuff I'm missing. Still need a thicker lock for the lockers, but I think that's the only item I'm missing now. Except for maybe food. On the street I donated $25 to ... read more

Ok, so let's start blogging this world trip. I haven't actually started yet, but the practice will be good. First, a little background. Back in April, I decided to quit my job and travel around the world. Around the same time, I met a girl, Jennifer, and invited her with me. The basics, in order to go, would be to decide how to finance the trip, do the research and decide the destinations, complete any paperwork (passport applications, visa's, etc.), buy equipment, and decide what to do about my condo. The hardest thing was figuring out what to do about my condo - which took awhile. I finally found some friends to take care of it while I'm away, and they started living there in October. Before that, things turned sour between Jenn and me and ... read more

My Portland Oregon visit was sensational! My friends Julie & Joe moved up to Portland last August 07, so of course I had to come visit them!!!! (thanks guys ... the air mattress was VERY comfortable). Portland Oregon was going to be the city I moved to, but I'm still trying to decide which city to choose (New Orleans is STILL high on my list!!!) However, after visiting the coastal cities, I'm thinking I REALLY need to live on a beach. The smell alone of the briny ocean was incredible, let alone the food and atmosphere! And yep, you can bet I'll find a way to come back in the summer so I can swim in the Pacific! ... read more

I woke up early, did a gratuitous hug to Tace as she lay asleep, and hopped on my bicycle all yesterday morning. It was cold as I rode through Tryon Creek Park and around the outskirts of southern Portland with nothing but a chocolate bar. I wound my way to the other side of the Willamette River and enjoyed a trail I found along the East bank and managed to find a small hiking trail I could climb up towards Reed College. Arriving at Reed was fantastic. A big green field and majestic old dorms lined my ride in as I made my way to Admissions. In admissions a friendly student working behind the desk informed me that I could take part in some activities as Thanksgiving vacation was still 24 hours away there. I had ... read more

Sitting in an entrance to the Educational Learning Center here at Reed College, I've found a nice empty iMAC to write this little ditty. The last 24 hours has beena hoorah of collegiate observation. Beginning yesterday morning at 8AM I met Gabe, Laey's coworker, who attends Lewis and Clark. It worked out incredbily well as I wanted to bicycle down to L&C, and didn't know how to get there at all as it was far far away. Prompting my visit to L&C was Tace, a girl a grade below me from Fairfield who I was acquainted with. The ride was cold; the rain had quit though, yet the fog was bearing down on us suffusing me with moisture. I met Gabe in the middle of downtown and I followed right behind him along the bike routes. ... read more

Just arrived in Portland and couch surfing happily. The quote above is most certainly accredited to Lacey who is hosting me, from when she was walking me around her neighborhood. In any case a quick recap of Evergreen: my camera ran out of batteries and I was slow to change it so I hardly took a photo for most of my time there. Let alone a decent one. I spent 10 days in a freshman dorm enjoying the intensity of the week as all the fellows in my particular room were being arrested intermittently for taking part in protests against the Iraqi war-tanks coming through the Olympic Port. I for one had not the energy to be pepper sprayed, shot at by rubber bullets, or flashbanged so I chose to be a bit more passive and ... read more

Portland!!!!!!!!!!! In the green state of Oregon. Once again another long greyhound ride to get here, though got there without incident. This place was cold!!!!!!!!! I had to put my jumper on for this place, first time in a couple of months lol. I trek my way up to the hostel, on long straight road uphill which I eventually found and checked in. I was informed when I arrived though that a party high school students were checking in that day and would be in my room and using the facilites in the area my dorm was in, I take a rest and these high schoolers show up....they are german!!!!! So I got me and a bunch of german guys in my dorm. Fun.....not. Anyway, I don't realy do much that day but run into a ... read more

North America » United States » Oregon » Florence November 3rd 2007

It was November and Seattle had started to get cold. That weekend, few friends at office and I decided to head to Florence, Oregon. We were to hire a car and drive down to Florence. But, by the time we got the car and started from Seattle , it was pretty late. Since it is almost a 4 hour drive to Portland and we had started late, we figured out that if we were to find a place to stay that night, it had to be somewhere between Seattle and Portland. So we checked in at a hotel for that night. The next morning, we started towards Multnomah falls, on the way to Florence. We reached there around 12:30 pm. I will be frank here – there are many more beautiful waterfalls in the South of ... read more

Oy! Sorry for the lack of posting! I will update the stories and photos soon, now that I'm back home (and back to broadband!). Many of the places we got online either had slow connections, or older hardware, or viruses, etc.... all obstacles to uploading pics. The nutshell version of the last few days is this: - Wednesday morning: up at sunrise to walk the Kora around HHDL's residence. - Stop for breakfast of french toast, fried eggs and coffee - Wed 7pm, left on bus back to Delhi - too bumpy for a sleeper car! ick! - Thurs morning, back in Delhi with almost no rest. Nap at hotel. - Thurs afternoon, woke from nap and started getting sick. UGH! (in retrospect, the eggs were undercooked - no runny yolks in foreign countries!!!) - Thursday ... read more
