On Sunday 2nd March Gillian arrived to stay for a week. She had been at a conference in San Diego and flew into Eugene. Her flight arrived on time and although tired I showed her our local supermarket which is quite a sight in itself! Gillian manged to spend the next few days enjoying a well earned rest at the house whilst I worked. In the evenings we visited the mall, a couple of local wineries and had a drink in a local wine bar with Tracy and Julia. I finished school on Wednesday and we headed straight for the coast. We drove first to Florence and then north to Yachats. I was so excited as when we stopped just as we were entering Florence a little otter popped its head out the water to look ... read more

Journal Entry: March 7, 2008 (Planned visit to Wildlife Safari and Howling Acres planned on March 8th, and a visit to Wildlife Images planned on March 9th). As a continuation to learn and explore alternative animal habitats offered around the world, I planned to look around my home state by visiting three "sanctuaries" in Oregon, in hopes of finding what I would consider to be a "true sanctuary". Please refer to my blog entry on the Oregon Zoo in January 2008, and my journey to India and Thailand to better understand what I mean by a "true sanctuary". What a true sanctuary means to me is that there is freedom for the animals to be the animals they instinctively are, without being excessively micromanaged and controlled by us humans. They should have adequate space to roam, ... read more

Welcome to my travel blog! After years of dreaming of all of the places I have read about, I am finally embarking on the journey of a lifetime. My brother had a catastrophic accident last May and I realized that I can't put it off any longer. Beginning April 12, 2008, I will sail from the U.S to South America, cross the southern Atlantic trade route, curve around west Africa into the Mediterranean and then spend the remaining days cruising the Mediterranean. Once on land, I am heading by train to Paris, London and Edinburgh. This trip is thematic in terms of family, or faith, and possibilities. I am visiting every country that constructed my DNA, following ley lines to sacred sites, and tracing the historical routes of the explorers. It is my intention that my ... read more

I can't remember exactly when I started imagining my own wedding, but since I can't remember a time when I didn't I guess its been awhile. Oh, the details changed here and there, and I tried out various mystery men at the alter, but I always knew how I wanted to feel - like the luckiest girl in the world. And thats exactly what I got. Most importantly lucky to fall in love with the groom of my dreams, but then seriously my wedding festivities were some for the record books! A surprise international proposal, two showers, a bachelorette party with my best girls, dream wedding at the beach, the honeymoon of a lifetime and another incredible party at home...I know I'm beyond lucky. As I reflect on my amazing year I'm humbled again at all ... read more

My restless feet have been twitching fiercely since the return from Ireland in 2006. The coming of Mia Azul postponed any 2007 travel plans but we're all three armed with passports now and once again ready to travel. Our current adventure is a road trip to Mexico. I will be traveling with 5 year old Erika and 4 month old Mia. Our journey will cover approximately three weeks with travel time and vacation. The latest plan goes something like this: Feb 29th: Depart Bend 3:30pm for Yuba City, CA where we'll spend the night with Kara and Justin Mar 1st: Leave Kara's place late afternoon and head for San Diego and stay with Barney and Veronica Mar 2nd: Park car on the US side of US:Mexico border and walk across the border with two suitcases, stroller, ... read more

Obfuscator writes: We left our motel by about 8:00, which was useful, since we knew we had sort of a tight schedule for the day. The continental breakfast was a bit disappointing, consisting of only toast and some scrawny donuts. Still, I'd recommend the motel, unless continental breakfast is a big deal for you. We drove down US-101 into the Redwood National Park, which is actually a conglomeration of several state parks bound together by some federal land. There's an awful lot to see in this area, and we sort of ran out of time to actually see all of it. We started though, with a drive along the coast, which afforded us several great opportunities to stop and look out over bluffs, beaches, and cool crags along the Pacific. Of course, both of us have ... read more

For President's Day weekend we headed to Portland. I drove up after a skiing trip with my class. Unfortunately, I got a bit lost at the last minute and I was almost the last to arrive. Harriet picked Linda up from the airport; Louise flew in from Sacramento and last to arrive was Jane from Minnesota. We had time for a quick drink in the hotel bar....literally a quick drink because the bar staff rather rudely ejected us from the bar very sharply on closing time. On Saturday we woke up and headed down to Pioneer Square for breakfast in Starbucks. From there we had a bit of a girly day shopping: first in Pioneer Place then in Macy's. Linda, Louise and Jane made some very successful make up purchases and had a wee makeover in ... read more

Not quite there yet... I love to travel and in my excitement about going to Europe and Mexico soon I got a little too excited and joined a travel blog. But don't be worried, eventually I will start my blog and it will be amazing. At least this is my undying hope. Anyway I'm going to London and Paris for spring break (since I am a full time student my travel time is somewhat limited). It's my first trip to Europe so it will be pretty exciting and then I will be going to Puebla, Mexico this summer to study abroad for about 5 weeks. until then... ... read more
