Sally and I decided today was the perfect day for a trip to the beach. I had hitched a ride to the Portland area this weekend, and I suppose it’s my little vacation before starting a summer of lab research. Anyway, I ended up at my friend Sally’s house in Laurelwood last night, a place I’d never been and now wonder why. I was entranced by the house itself, which is half of what used to be a nursing home and so has a very wide hallway, extra wide doors, and extra sinks and bathrooms in the rooms. I was also thrilled by the fact that I got to sleep in a guest bedroom with a candle burning by the mirror. I don’t even remember falling asleep, but suddenly I was waking up to sunshine. I ... read more

Candy has done a wonderful job keeping you all updated so far, thanks to her as I would never be able to do it as well as she has. She has covered most of what we have done in detail so I will not back track over it again. I just wanted to say Hello to you all. I’m sorry about saying it that way, out here it is “ Hello to You’s guys”. So here are my thoughts after 13 days on the road. Every morning as I put the RV in gear to take off, I hear it in my mind-- that famous song that plays over and over …. “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC (because most roads out here suck and I’m not a morning person and don’t like to be bumped ... read more

A dream wedding, dream honeymoon and we get to come home to another incredible party!? In a word it was breathtaking. Obviously it was our party so OF COURSE I'm going to think that, but I wasn't the only one. The entire setup was just gorgeous and fun too! I couldn't have done any of it without the help of my Reception Angels at home making it all possible. As anyone who has planned a wedding reception knows it is a large undertaking and thanks to Aunt Valerie, Katherine, Grandma, Kristi and Mom it all came together magically. I had fallen in love with the Oregon Golf Club the summer before our reception and I couldn't get it out of my mind. It is in a beautiful location in West Linn overlooking the valley and Mt. ... read more

Really am going to miss this Portland summer. There seems to be this universal understanding that Portland is just dreary all the time. Well it is not. The summers here, which start around the end of June, are simply amazing. It is about 76 degrees just slightly overcast and a 70 degree breeze is blowing through out of the west at about 5mph. Idyllic. I am in the back yard, just finished the last of the yard work, sitting in the rocker. If it wasn't for the mowers running it would feel like my own personal park. We have been packing up and getting ready for our move and road trip. So far so good. The POD is here, 16ftx7x7 and that needs to hold everything we are going to move. It will be close, but ... read more

Tim and I decided last night, as we were laying bed, that we wanted to have what we described as a "lazy day". We've been going strong for 12 days and we just wanted to "do nothing" for a day. I found a great KOA Campground in Walport, Oregon that is right on the coast so we decided to head out in the morning and spend the day and night there. Tim let us girls sleep late this morning while he packed up everything and started driving around 9:30 a.m. It felt really good to sleep-in and not be stressed about where to take a bath and what everyone was going to eat for breakfast. It still seems so weird that we can sleep and ride down the road at the same time and it's kinda ... read more

Well, we survived last night in Silver Lake, Washington and awoke to a brand new day. We planned on going up to Mount St. Helens and then over to the lava tubes. Before we could head out, Tim had to settle up with the owners and decide which route to take. It didn't take him long to route a course for us and we were soon on our way. Not long into the drive everyone starts yelling for breakfast. There was absolutely nothing in sight, no restaurants, gas stations, etc. I guess we didn't realize how barren it would be in this area but, it does make sense that no one would want to live close to an active volcano. Our options were very slim, actually there were no options other than to eat in the ... read more

There's no place like home...... There's no place like home! Well I have been in the states for 5 weeks now it has gone quick. I hope you are missing me just a little bit if not a lot. I am feeling a little homesick not enough to want to come home I still have things to do, places to go and people to see. One reason is Portland is kinda similar to Manchester. Its a big difference to Vegas and the dessert a lot more green for a start. There is a nice chilled feeling to the city. One thing i have noticed is their is a lot of Punks and Crusties like Manchester in the mid 90's a lot of them begging or busking. I have mainly walked around Portland today searched out somewhere ... read more

Ditched the city chaos to return to my beautiful home state of Oregon for a week's vacation. I think the world of Seattle, but do frequently feel claustrophobic in the city. The fresh sea air and open spaces were a perfect remedy. Few places compare to the Pacific Northwest in natural beauty, and I feel lucky to live here. In all my travels I have never really found anywhere I have been more in love with than the Oregon Coast. A true Oregonian never utters the phrase “I am going to the beach” (unless of course she is going on vacation to California). The only place Oregonians go is “the coast”. I suppose that is because a beach implies somewhere one lays in the sun, and in Oregon it is rarely sunny and usually too windy ... read more
