Arrived at my hotel in Oklahoma to find I look a bit out of place - it's pretty plush and when I turned up in ripped jeans and a baseball cap, I got some dubious looks from the staff. Once they heard I was English though they probably thought I was one of Prince Harry's friends or something, and they were much nicer to me. It was as cold in OKC as it was in Chicago, largely due to the biting wind, though luckily no tornadoes were forecast during my stay. There's not a great deal on offer here unless you have a car, so I had to content myself with the Oklahoma City Memorial Museum, established following the bombing here in 1995 which killed over 160 people. I vaguely remember the event at the time, ... read more

This place was amazing. If you are ever in Oklahoma City, this is a must see. I spent 1/2 a day there and it was not enough time. However, you do extensive walking and I got very tired. Inside you will find: . Many galleries of western art and sculptures. . Galleries of native American art and sculptures. . A gallery dedicated to Rodeos. . A gallery dedicated to the Military in the west. . An entire gallery dedicated to Colt weapons. You must see it to believe it. ... read more

We sent 4 days in Gutherie, OK at a wonderful RV park. It is surrounded by two golf courses with all pull thru sites with full hookups except cable. It has a very good wifi system. The people who run the park are extremely friendly and helpful. I would recommend this park to all. This was my base of operations to visit the area.... read more

Visited the National Memorial today. It was an overcast day, rather gloomy actually. Sort of fits. It is daunting to visit the site. I have included a number of photos which explain what I saw. I did not go into the museum as I wanted to visit another place and would not have enough time nor strength. If you are ever in Oklahoma City. This is a must see. ... read more

Hello from Oklahoma. I’m just east of Oklahoma City tonight after a leisurely 292 miles on the road. Had a slow dial up connection at Petit Jean so I didn’t upload an entry last night. Surprisingly I have an extended network connection with my cell phone (and therefore my cell broadband modem) here so I’m using the campground’s wireless. Not sure what to expect as far as coverage goes out in the boonies of Wichita Mountains NWR tomorrow and Friday. I looked at a Verizon coverage map and it appears I may in fact have better coverage than here on the outskirts of OKC. Go figure. So who knows if I’ll have a connection (or the time) to update the next couple of days? Yesterday was a nice, relaxing day on Petit Jean Mountain. It was ... read more

It took us 8.5 hours to get to Fort Worth. We stayed with Jared’s friend’s Cody and Sarah. They have a beautiful custom built house in a quiet development. Sarah is due to have a baby any day now... we took a tour of the house and looked at the nursery, it was so cute! We hung out in the living room and watched a tv show, “Army Wives”, then went to sleep b/c we were so tired from the long drive (and the hurricane’s). On Tuesday we drove to Oklahoma City…on the way there we drove through the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. It was AMAZING! I felt like I could reach up and touch the clouds, they were so low. We drove through the refuge and saw a herd of buffalo. We saw one by ... read more

Day 17 So, last night was an adventure. We had severe thunderstorm warnings with high wind damage possibilities. 50 mph winds with gusts up to 70mph. The camper was rocking and we heard something in the bathroom. Opening the door, we saw that the wind had ripped off our vent. After stopping to purchase some souvenirs, we bought a new vent. When Benji went to install our new vent, he realized it didn’t fit and we headed back to the store. Mike called us. It was nice to hear from him. But his news wasn’t good. There’s major flooding in the area we’re headed into. And, he told us we left a shirt, sock, and our garbage can. We knew about the can and sock. Loooong day. Lots of driving. And, like always, my phone ... read more

The ride from Memphis to Oklahoma City was a tense one. Brian and I were extremely bored and kind of at each other whenever we’d try to converse so he spent much of the ride watching episodes of House (thanks Jess!) on my laptop when I was driving and when he was driving I started getting reacquainted with the book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (the movie version’s coming out soon!!!). By the time we got to Oklahoma City we’d been in the car for almost 7 hours but we were slightly cheered up by the fact that, courtesy of my dad and his hotel points, we’d be staying in our first hotel of the trip…the Sheraton. After checking in and relaxing in the room for a bit, we decided to check ... read more

all the way to OkeeMatt Edwards I'm sitting in a public library in Midwest, OK, which is just outside of Oklahoma City. Long day so far, much driving still ahead. Got absorbed in music and forgot to look at the fuel guage; noticed the little red warning light 5 miles before an exit and ran out a mile or so short. Argh! Took advantage of the opportunity for excercise and started jogging, but was quickly thwarted in that plan by a kind couple who picked me up and drove me to the gas station. Bought a gas can (a donation for Daniel's car) and they actually drove me back as well! Nice folks. Found out they were heading to Kentucky soon for some kind of missionary work in a few small towns. Yesterday was long-- got ... read more

Memphis to Hot Springs Miles and miles of flat fields - hard to know what’s grown around here at this time of year. Did see some cotton fields, muddy rivers, flooded fields, green winter crops… Short squatty silos, few barns, and lots of fields. Heavy rain for most of the trip today as we head to Hot Springs--boyhood home of Bill Clinton. Lunch at a cute little place called Granny’s Kitchen in the downtown area, across from bathhouse row. It’s foggy and drizzly but clear that we are in a more mountainous area - the edge of a national park where the hot springs originate. While Andy relaxed at our b&b, Jennie partook in the ancient tradition of “taking the waters” (mineral baths) at Buckstaff Baths, the oldest active bathhouse in Hot Springs (since 1912). It ... read more
