vegas starts at the airport
vegas starts at the airport
pretty much the first thing you see when you get off the plane
Flying across country was amazing, seeing it change from the lush swampy forests of south Carolina to the woods and plains of Kentucky and then the open endless farmlands of the Midwest before the mountains and deserts of Nevada. Finally the giant light bulb that is Las Vegas loomed up in the windows, with the giant luxor pyramid seemingly just off the runway. I amble out of the plane straight in to a bank of slot machines all decked out with blue rinsed coffin dodgers feeding them quarters. A airport shuttle ride later and i have seen the full range of [View Full Entry]

Late Afternoon amongst the Palm Trees.
I was impressed to find Vegas looking exactly like it does in the movies!
!! Viva Las Vegas Baby !! What a trip to step on a plane in Sydney, and jump out in Vegas. The flight from LAX to Vegas was in itself magnificent, immense and rocky mountains juxtaposed with flat and dusty yellow desert- as I stepped off the plane to get to the concourse the heat hit me like a brick- it was at least 35 degrees celsius. It looked funny, this little city snuggled into the hills and desert- so isolated. When I step foot into the airport the first thing I see is about 40 glammed up gold and glittery [View Full Entry]

Night Life

Poolaxing

You know the story, what happens in Vegas.....you can rest assured that the college funds are still intact and that we have enough money to get home. We stayed three nights at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club Resort and what a refreshing experience. A one bedroom condo is what we had. Full kitchen, king size bed, great pools and many hot tubs. We did not do a lot. We slept late we ate breakfast by the pool and tried not to burn our bodies to a crisp in the 110 degrees weather. How in the world do people live here? The [View Full Entry]

On the way to Reno
On the way to Reno
Yep more mountains, at least these ones aren't on fire.
As I had to return the rental to Salt Lake City I got away from my sisters place about lunch time (she also had to go to work) and made my way over the Sierra Nevadas to Reno where I planned on staying for the night. And as it has a bunch of casinos there I thought it would be a good place to make my riches, just like everybody else. Except for 2 small problems, I can't afford to give lots of money to the casinos and I have a very short attention span with casinos. Reno is a bit [View Full Entry]

Huddled in a rock at the Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs.
Hello everyone!!!! I am not even sure where to begin this entry....the last time I wrote we were staying at Gunsmoke and getting out of Dodge, so they say. Well, maybe Dodge City wasn't so bad.... We hit the road on Tuesday morning and headed to somewhere in Colorado. We had an idea where we would stop but we had an unexpected situation occur. For those of you worriers...everyone is healthy, there was no accident involving wild game or pick up trucks:) While driving Tuesday they were a couple of instances where the RV seemed to exhibit signs of illness. Stalling [View Full Entry]

Garden of the Gods
Our New Home
Chris and I:)

My flight to Los Angeles was the first one to be delayed. I got to wait about an hour in the airport, then board the plane, then get off that plane because one of the warnings wasn't working and then get on another brand new plane and finally get on my way. Fun times. I finally arrived in LA sometime in the afternoon where I met my Great Auntie Wendy for the first time. She was kind enough to pick me up, give me some food and then take me to my hotel in Anaheim all in one afternoon! She also [View Full Entry]

After travelling around South America for 4 months, we will miss so much... the craziness, the colourful people, trying to communicate in Spanish! Back at home we only hear the bad things about the continent and how dangerous it is but we didn't have any problems and every country we visited was absolutely amazing. We head to the US for the final part of our trip and our plan is to travel all the way across the country, visiting as many of the spectacular national parks along the way. Having said that, we start the trip in Las Vegas! A couple [View Full Entry]

This resulted in destruction of heavy metal containers of all sorts. One infallible container was a 55-gallon drum with welded steel reinforcements on the bottom and top, making use of the container by [View Full Entry]

Leaving the Hotel Monaco In Salt Lake City
Leaving the Hotel Monaco In Salt Lake City
A hotel corridor with much better ambience
We always have good the good intention of arising early and getting on with our plans for the day. It just so rarely happens. We abolutely loved the Hotel Monaco in Salt Lake City; very well run, personable, and efficient. (Although the dinner at Monaco in Denver trumped the Salt Lake City Monaco by far.) So, we lingered a bit before going on to our scheduled plan for the day...The Family History Library at Salt Lake City to track down John's elusive great grand father. Now, I am not so sure why a John Kennedy from somewhere in Ireland who fled [View Full Entry]

The Walk to the Family History Library
And Building...
And Building......

Las Vegas never ceases to fascinate me. It's a vibrant city jammed pack with entertainment and the best parties. I visit Vegas at least 3 times a year since I was 13. Maybe I go a little too often, but I am never bored of this city. Where can you find the effiel tower next to the arc de triumph and across from a musical fountain when you can walk and look up at the Statute of Liberty down the block and check out a black pyramid across the street. It only happens in Vegas. Over the years, I have witnessed [View Full Entry]
