When we left Nelda's we drove over to Keesler AFB, MS (in Biloxi) to see our grandson Tyler. He had graduated from Air Force boot camp in March and we were not able to be there, but we wanted to spend some time with him. He is going through Radio Frequency School and will be in MS until October. He still does not know where he will be going for his first permanent duty station. He signed up for six years, and we pray that he will make a career of it. He said that if he decides to stay, he wants to have his Bachelor's degree by the end of his 6 years and then get his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. We called him after getting checked into base housing and he said he ... read more

4.5 hours changing speed from 65 to 45 to 35 then back to 55, maybe 100 times. Highway 84 grew monotonous very quickly , through a number of small South Georgia towns. A lot of standing water after weeks of unusually heavy rain. Kate asked the question often " think there are gators in there?" The Cooper is a pleasure to drive and remarkably comfy. Lots of looks from peeps of all ages. One of my favourite small towns ,Thomasville , by 1830. Met up with John Rainey and Joey Vitello, who is coaching for TUniversity , for dinner at Jonas. Sat outside and feasted on crab cakes and just for Kathie Z , shrimps and grits. John took us to the homestead, where we spent the night. 2 young softball players from the University stopped ... read more

We have decided to leave Biloxi on 1/1/14, weather permitting. We will have one overnight in the panhandle of Florida and expect arrival to our destination in Fort Myers sometime onThursday afternoon/evening. We are both looking forward to the warmer weather. On Friday, the 20th, we decided to take a ride on 90 west to Bay St. Louis, MS. We went into ‘Old Town’ and checked out all of the antique/consignment shops. In one shop, the owner told us of an auction scheduled for that evening in a neighboring town to us (Gulfport). Then it was time for us to head back to the RV park for our Christmas lunch/dinner. Our Christmas lunch/dinner at the RV park was nice, but relatively short. Dinner consisted of ham, cornbread stuffing, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, cranberries and ... read more

I forgot to mention on the last ‘travelblog’ that when we arrived, the site (we thought we had) had been given to someone else. Originally, we were told we would need to be out by Jan. 1 in the am, which was ok with us, but now, because there is no one scheduled for our current (new) site – we can stay up to Jan. 6, if we so desire. We still may leave Jan. 1, we’ll see…..at least we have the option. This week we have continued ‘checking out’ some of the local casinos. Jim won a few $$ the other day, not a lot, but still a win! The weather has been crazy up & down in the temps….(can be in the 30’s at night or into 70’s during the day – but usually ... read more

Ahhhhh……..it is 9:30 am (CST) on Sunday, the bed is made, the dishes are done, I am dressed and finishing my last few sips of my second cup of coffee. Jim is gone for a few hours to a local gun show and possibly a few other stops, which gives me some quiet time to compose my thoughts and let you know that we did, indeed make it to Biloxi, MS. We spent our first night, on the road, in Martinsburg, W.VA. in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Don’t know how cold in actually got that night – but I was sure glad that we had put a 2nd blanket (a wool) one on the bed. Also, I knew there was a good reason that I packed my flannel pj’s! I certainly needed them both that night! ... read more

My departure from Andalusia AL on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 was uneventful. My GPS guided me over a few miles of state and county roads before I made my way onto westbound US 84/AL 12 towards Evergreen AL. There I caught I-65 to Mobile AL and I-10 to Biloxi MS where I exited onto MS 67 and some county roads to the Woodland Farm RV Campground south of Saucier MS. The owner had properly cautioned me over the phone that the location is about 20 minutes from the downtown Biloxi casinos; however, I relished the calm at the end of the day. This small park is rural and quiet and (from all appearances) is a retirement hobby and social outlet for the very accommodating owner. Thursday was properly forecast for rain for most of the day, ... read more

Geo: 30.3954, -88.9728Weather was cooler today with temperatures between 10 and 12 C. So far our weather has been great. This morning it was sunny but turned to cloud and very windy anywhere near the shore. We travelled to Biloxi which is a major casino town. Obviously tourism and gambling is the source of income. We visited Beauvoir which is a National Historical Landmark and a Mississippi Historic Landmark. It was built by James Brown in 1852 and included many structures which were destroyed by Katrina in 2005. In fact the main house was turned sideways during the hurricane and the water was one foot above the main floor level. It has since been turned back and the damage repaired. The Browns fled inland with the onset of the Civil War. The property was sold by court auction ... read more

December 27-30, 2012 We left 10” of snow in the driveway on December 27th and began our drive to Louisville where we would take the 10:30 flight on Vision Airlines to enjoy a complimentary three night stay at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. The normally two hour drive took an excruciatingly three what with stopped traffic on I65 which caused us to decide to take US 31 as an alternative. Unfortunately, 31 was still snow-covered with extremely heavy traffic. We made a detour to Horseshoe South to enjoy a late lunch/early dinner at the Paula Deen Buffet and some free play before completing the drive to the airport. This was our first trip on one of the complimentary junkets. Beverage service on the charter flight was a little different than on a ... read more

Thursday-August 23, 2012 Day 2 began with breakfast at the Blue & White Restaurant in Tunica before heading south to Biloxi. We had enjoyed both the Donut Tower and breakfast at the Blue & White on a previous trip, so knew what goodness awaited us. It took about 7 hours to get to the Gulf. We first stopped at Island View Casino in Gulfport, which turned out to be much larger and nicer than the Grand Biloxi where we were staying. We were in both Gulfport and Biloxi a couple of years before Hurricane Katrina, but couldn't really remember all that was along Beach Road at that time. Today the beach is a wide open expanse for miles, while there are both newly remodeled buildings, and open areas, some for sale, perhaps where homes stood before ... read more
