April 13th 2013

We decided to leave Warrenton/Roundtop, Texas on Monday, April 1. We had already been there (and set up for 10 days). What we didn’t know when we ‘signed on’ to do the show….that there is a ‘pre-show’, of which we were part and if you do the pre-show and the regular show…it lasts almost 3 weeks!! We were told that, on Tuesday, wealthy women from Dallas & Houston, would be flying in and Limousined in for a different section of the show, which is down the road a bit and eventually some of them would ‘dribble’ through the fields where we were. We’d had enough of people ‘dribbling’ through for the 10 days that we were set up and we did make some money…..so we were ready to leave. Note about Warrenton/Roundtop antiques show….it is actually ... read more

We left Tucson, AZ on Sunday morning……the day before we left, we were driving through the desert and we stopped so that I could get pictures of the desert flowers I saw blooming. Also blooming were orange and yellow California Poppies, in many yards….so pretty (but I couldn’t get a pic of them). We arrived in Las Cruces, New Mexico about 1:30 pm on Sunday afternoon. The RV park was very small (under 100 sites). Impressive was the building that served as Community Room/Laundry/Showers. It was immaculate! Of all the parks we have been in this was by far the cleanest! Early Monday morning we headed out for Roswell, New Mexico (a 3 hr. drive one way!).! On our way we drove by many, (many) antique shops & flea markets (many appeared to be ... read more

March 9th 2013

We left Casa Grande, Az yesterday (Friday). The rain and wind was originally supposed to start after 5 pm.......then they moved it up to noon, so we figured we would get an early start. Of course, it came in even earlier.....it poured all night Thursday night....so I figured it came extra early and we would have 'clear sailing' - NOT! It continued to pour Friday morning and we had to 'break camp' in short spurts between downpours. Luckily, Tucson was only 80 miles away, so we didn't have to drive too far. Along the way we were amazed at all the water in the desert. I took pictures. In some places it looked like a lake instead of the desert! We are now at Lazydays RV park in Tucson, AZ. We will be here for 9 ... read more

The first few pics were taken one of the last days that we were in Quartzsite. We decided to go into Mexico one more time. On the way, we saw something in the sky that looks like a fish! I'm guessing that maybe it is a weather balloon?? I can't imagine what else it could be. (Reminds me of one of those Goldfish crackers!) There is a casino just before you get to the border....a lot of RV's in the parking lot. Jim wanted a haircut, so the first place we went was a barber shop....$3.00 for the haircut (they did a good job). There are a lot of Dental offices in Mexico....and we even saw a building that advertised both Dental & a Bed & Breakfast??? We did a little shopping, then left. Mexico is ... read more

The 1st few pics you will see were taken around Quartzsite before we left for Vegas. We arrived in Vegas in the late morning on 2/9. Since we were too early to register at our hotel (The Rio)…..we went to the Flea Market. Jim bought a few Nevada marker plates to sell….but we didn’t stay too long. We were hungry after driving for 4 hours so we headed to the Main Street Palace, in the older ‘downtown’ section of town (we were already in that section of town anyway.) We headed for the buffet and because it is Saturday, they had a champagne brunch. It was about noon, but I figured in must be 5:00 somewhere….so yes, I had champagne! (Buffet was not as good as we remembered). Jim then played a few hands of Blackjack ... read more

January 18th 2013

Hi all, Our friends, Larry & Marsha have arrived and we have been getting together about every other day. We went to Algodones, Mexico (at the Yuma, AZ border) and had a great time. I was able to purchase some metal flowers for my garden at less than half the price than they were in Tucson, AZ. Everyone goes there for prescriptions & eyeglasses (Jim got new prescription 'progressive' sunglasses for $59.00 as well as a haircut for $5.00). Liquor stores, drugstores, dentists and optical stores are plentiful as well as the locals selling their wares. A very colorful country. I also have included a few pictures of our 'Quartzsite' hummingbird and also of the Woodpecker that is often outside our RV. Cousin Evelyn has visited from CA. and we had a wonderful time. We have ... read more

Cold, cold, COLD at night!! Nothing compared to New England I know and it won't last long. We have been told by 'locals' that "winter is almost over". The days are sunny and near 60, but the nights have been in the 30's!! They tell me that by the end of Jan. it will warm up quickly. We arrived (safely) in Quartzsite on Jan. 1. It took about 5 hours, but that included 3 stops, one of which was a tour of another RV park in a different city in AZ. We don't know yet (or have plans) of where we are going to spend Feb and/or March. It won't be Quartzsite....we wanted to come here for Jan., but really there is not a lot to see or do (we both already feel like we have ... read more

December 30th 2012

Well......I am supposed to be at a bonfire tonight.....which is what I planned on being our last 'hurrah'. Unfortunately, they canceled it due to 'cold' weather....it is currently 55 degrees at 6:30 pm. The last (only) bonfire we had (we are supposed to have one every Friday night...pretty much the only thing to look forward to).....was over by 7:30 pm. So I don't know how much colder it can possibly get in the next hour. As you might guess, I am leaving here somewhat 'disgruntled' (not a happy camper). I really, really, really was looking forward to that bonfire! Luckily.....I have other photos to show you. Yesterday (Friday), we 'accidently' drove to the Mission San Xavier. Jim was looking for a flea market and we happened upon the Mission....so I made him stop. I have posted ... read more

December 24th 2012

Hi all, Not too much to tell, but I do have a few pictures to show you. On Wednesday last, we went to the 'Desert Museum' in Tucson. There was a chill in the air and a very brisk (cold) breeze. We arrived early and there were only a few cars in the parking lot. We went in (and I guess) due to the lack of visitors at that time, we had a personal guide for about the first hour. We learned a lot. The animals are outdoors in their natural habitats and some were reluctant to come out in the cold. Hope you enjoy the pics! Merry Christmas! Tomorrow I will be baking pumpkin/spice muffins and making pasta salad for our neighbors Christmas Eve party....and Tuesday, we will have Christmas dinner in the clubhouse, it ... read more
