So…..we left Biloxi, MS on Jan. 2. Our intention was to spend the night in a Wal-Mart parking lot about halfway to Fort Myers. The day was cloudy and drizzly, there was an accident in the tunnel we had to pass through in Alabama – so we waited in traffic for quite a while (long enough to turn the ignition off and just sit). We hit the Florida state line about 3 hours later. It was still cloudy and drizzly and since we had to switch back to EST, it was now an hour later. It was starting to get dark, so we found a small campground right off of I-10 and we pulled off the road about 3 pm. Good thing we did, as it was really cold that night and since we stopped at a campground we had electricity so we had heat. It would have been mighty cold in the Wal-Mart parking lot that we had originally planned on.
We got up early the next morning (we knew we had to make up time) – but we forgot that sunrise was an hour later than we were used to – so we just had to sit around

Another bridge we need to cross to get to Florida. and wait for the sun to come up. We hit the road about 7:30 am and didn’t stop, except to fuel up one time. We literally just snacked while we were driving, so we wouldn’t have to stop and eat. We made it to our RV park in Fort Myers about 3:30 pm on Jan. 3 (Jim drove 420 miles straight)!
We have been settling in and adjusting to our new routine (they actually have activities here). Monday am is the ‘weekly update meeting’ with coffee and donuts (we are currently abstaining from the donuts) and bring our own coffee (ours is better). Immediately after the meeting is daily stretching exercise if you so desire; following that is daily aerobics, following that is water aerobics on M, T & T (this one I am doing). The pool is heated to 85º and it feels soooooo good! It seems like it would be pretty mellow, but after the first one, my calves hurt for 3 days! Monday night is line dancing. Tuesday morning all the am exercise plus water aerobics, Tuesday night is card games at the clubhouse. Wednesday am exercise, Wednesday night bingo. I won! Not a lot, but
Florida 1-2-14
Woohoo!! We made it to Florida safe and sound. it paid for my bingo and I came home with a few extra bucks in my pocket. Thursday, am exercise & water aerobics. Thursday afternoon was a ‘ladies lunch’ at a local restaurant. Saturday morning, there is a breakfast at the clubhouse & Saturday evening a dinner at a local church. Next week, in addition to the regular activities, there is ‘Leo’s lunch’ at the Dairy Queen. Jim and I are getting selective about the eating events and haven’t attended any yet. We ate a lot of casino food in Biloxi, so we are trying to hold off for a while. We will have a lot of eating events yet to come.
Friday & Saturdays, we are going to all the local yard sales (of course) and the local Fleamarkets. Oh yeah, there is a Fleamarket on Wednesday morning, Friday morning, two on Saturday and three on Sunday! Sunday’s we set up at one near us.
The weather – hmmmmm…..it was extra cool when we got here (good thing I still had my flannel pj’s handy). For the past few days, it has been 80 and (mostly) sunny, the local news is saying that it was unusually cool,
Sunrise 1-3-14
You can see we 'hit the road' really early. now it is unusually hot for this time of year; but in a few days it is ‘cooling down’ to the low 70’s (where they are saying it should be).
The first few pics I have posted are on our way out of Biloxi. The lighthouse is a historical lighthouse that we passed many time while there, but this is the first time I was able to get a clear picture of it. It was erected in 1848 and was one of the first cast iron lighthouses in the South. Katrina's storm surge enveloped a third of the 64-foot tall lighthouse, and the constant pounding from the water and winds toppled many bricks that lined the interior of the cast iron, which has since been repaired.
You probably will not hear from me as much as when we were in Biloxi as much of what we do will be repetitive. I certainly will post again when I have some interesting pictures to share.
