Summer on the Chesapeake Bay Nancy and I docked in Dark Head Creek at the home of friends Curtis & Chris Wroten in early June after completing our 1180 mile journey up the East Coast from Fort Pierce, Florida. We enjoyed the six week trip but were glad to finally be tied to a secure dock for a change. It seemed as soon as we arrived, the weather turned extremely hot and humid. Chris insisted that we move into their guest bedroom and enjoy the air conditioned comfort of their home. After a couple of days Chris and Curtis told us they were ready to leave for an extended trip to Florida where they have a 2nd home. They asked Nancy and I if we would please stay in their house in Maryland and take care ... read more

“You’re Off To Baltimore…WHY?” You get that sometimes. There are people who just can’t see the world around them as anything other than a normal, every day place. What’s interesting is that it's all a state of mind. Any place can be a destination, it’s just up to you to see it that way. When traveling for long periods of time, people start seeing everything around them as an interesting cultural experiment of sorts, a chance to see the world around them with fresh eyes. Unfortunately it seems that the moment we get home and absorb ourselves back into some semblance of normalcy, we lose these “Fresh Eyes.” Since I’m still unemployed and Kel and I are living off only one salary at present, our budget for travel is, obviously, pretty small. We live frugally, ... read more

This weekend we travelled to Baltimore, Maryland to see Infected Mushroom play at Palma Nightclub. Smitties bought the tickets and booked our room at the Hilton. He was supposed to come, but he had to work in Canada so he gave Toby the tickets and room as a birthday present. The show was great and the hotel room was fantastic!... read more

Hello all! I am about to leave for Aix-en-Provence, France in a week!!! It seems crazy that the time is coming so quickly! I have wanted to do this for a few years now, I've began planning it three years ago and have been actively planning for the past year and a half...and it's coming in a week!! Ahh!! In this blog I will write to keep people at home updated on my wellbeing and where-abouts during my semester abroad. I plan to travel around the area and within Europe as much as possible so hopefully I will have some interesting adventures to report. I will also post everyday kind of things..how I like the town, how school is going, etc. I'll add pictures and videos to the blog too (unfortunately, my digital camera takes videos ... read more

Wow! The Maryland Zoo is a must see! The birds and animals are exquisite. Just take a look at the pictures. What a fun place! Big birthday party in Maryland this weekend. Anna turned 1 on the 10th and Renee turns 4 on the 20th. Grammy couldn't miss it, so I took the big flight (one hour) from Providence to Baltimore on Southwest and spent 6 fun-filled days there. Great party, great weather and enjoyed the kids and the Zoo.... read more

Interrupting your regularly scheduled seriousness for an update that shows how much of a geek I can truly be! And yes, Felix. I went to Otakon. :P What is an "anime convention"? I sure as hell wish I could give you a proper answer for that one. It seems to be a mishmash of different things all combined into three days of amazing, awesome, and complete insanity. The intended purpose is to gather people of a shared interest together so you can bond and meet other people just like yourself. But really, anime conventions have different meanings for different people. For artists, it's a way to sell and show off your art to a larger audience, as well as get your name out into the marketplace. For nerds, dorks, and other such geeks, it's a weekend ... read more

Well the Angels barely held on to that one. The Angel fans reading this will be proud to know that we rooted for your team. (We're lucky. Although its not as though you need the help huh?) The day started off leaving Pittsburgh at 9:30 and driving to Baltimore. Yes, we had just driven from Baltimore to Pittsburgh the day before, and the 250 mile drive (some said 300) was eerily similar to yesterday's, albeit in the opposite direction. On our way out of Pittsburgh we stopped at the University of Pittsburg, where they have the original home plate in the exact spot (inside a building) where it was at Forbes Field, where the Pirates played before 1970. There is a brick ribbon outside outlining the outfield wall. It was pretty cool. Only baseball would covet ... read more

Well, it seems we have flown ourselves into some major thunderstorm activity. Our flight left on time and arrived in Nashville for a "20 minute" stop, which turned into three hours of sitting on the plane waiting for the weather to get better in Baltimore. We didn't mind staying on the plane, though, since there were only about 15 people and we could stretch out. The terminal was apparently jam-packed and the people who finally boarded the plane did not look too happy. We arrived in Baltimore after midnight and by the time we made it to the hotel all the local restaurants were closed, so we have had a lovely dinner of pretzels and crackers. The rain is still falling and it's kind of nice--haven't seen much rain lately! Looks like we may see quite ... read more

The subject to this entry has nothing to do with the entry itself, I just wanted something a little dramatic as an introduction: Currently listening: Hong Kong by The Gorillaz (for the incredible guzheng) Just listened: Leaves in the River by Sea Wolf Currently reading: Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk Just read: The Road by Cormac McCarthy I am in Columbia, Maryland, outside of Baltimore, lying prone in the front yard of Sam's uncle's house. The time is getting nearer where the trip takes some unique turns: Tim is going to Scotland for a week and a half and I am going to Oregon and Idaho for four weeks—flying out of New York and Boston, respectively. Driving from Indianapolis to Maryland, we stopped in Ohio to visit a friend at The Apostolate for Family Consecration Catholic Familyland. ... read more
