The movie last night (The Tourist) was just ok. I thought Angelina Jolie looked too thin. Ken thought it was dumb. Anyway, we read for a little, then I had trouble going to sleep. I started thinking about how this time next week I will actually be at my real home in Tucson. I'm excited! We will be there for 10 days. To see all 3 of my sons (Jason, Amy and Josh will visit) and Amy will be so fun. Also we will celebrate Annie's Birthday. We got up at 7am but by the time we had cofee, showered and packed up, it was 9 am before we pulled out of Carrollton, KY. I'm not sure if I'll ever be back here...definitely not this park. But it is a pretty part of the country. We ... read more

A late start today meant getting on the interstate for a while. I have not missed the noise, wind buffeting, and semis on the small roads we've taken the last few days. Now trying to make up time, and make some westward progress of substance. Ian keeps telling me that even if we only travelled 300 kms per day, we would still be home by the first week of July. Guess I should take time to look at the map and distances left to travel. With no destination in mind other than somewhere to the right (thanks John) and further along than yesterday, we met up with the madness on Interstate 64 and, 3 hours later, climbed off slightly beaten up here in bluegrass country, Lexington, Kentucky. Hotel choices here were excellent, and we're in the ... read more

On September 15th, in the heart of the Bluegrass, flanked by historic brick colonials and shaded by a tall maple tree, Andras and I were finally married! We opted for a small, intimate ceremony combining a blend of natural beauty with southern elegance. In the weeks and months before, I'd busily hit the corners of the country again - Seattle for a bridal shower, New York to pick up the wedding dress - while Andras was out of the country in Mexico. The days prior were filled with last-minute errands, picking up family at the airport and finalizing arrangements for the rehersal dinner, watching the weather forecast call first for rain, then for thunderstorms, then for severe thunderstorms strickly limited to the hours our wedding was to be held outdoors. And somehow, everything was perfect. Up ... read more

The rubber bands are heading in the right direction. These are the words of wisdom that I discovered contained within my fortune cookie last night after consuming some mediocre-at-best Chinese food. I was perplexed, confused, and even excited. This string of words could well be the secret of life, or the unifying code that aligns quantam theory with gravity, or the very name of God! Or it could be a typo or a joke... Either way though, it seems that I had a mystery on my hands. In the style of the great dectectives of yore, I prepared to travel the world and spend millions of dollars on cool equipment whilst utilizing my astounding deductive reasoning to see connections where none have before. It was only then that I realized that those "great dectectives of yore" ... read more

Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible. ~Doug Larson As some of you might know, In February 2011, I was sitting on a beach in Chile writing a list of 27 goals to accomplish in my 27th year. I found that excercise quite rewarding, and I was actually able to accomplish several of them. On February 8th, 2012, I closed my 27th year of life began my 28th, I thought it'd be cool to revisit those goals, see which of them I actually did, and then post this year's list of 28 things to do in my 28th year. My hope is that you can help me to be more accountable so that I can have even more success next year. :) Well, here it ... read more

Sunday, October 9th, Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY Mileage 18074. Gorgeous blue sky. Lovely Fall day. Watched the riders drive their light buggies and run the course near the campground before we drove down about a block to the entrance to the Horse Park itself. We spent the day until about 3:30 at the horse park. We took in the museum that plays homage to the horse through the ages by displaying pictures, dioramas, wall hangings, and life size replicas of horses and their interaction with man. Had lunch at their cafeteria and then walked around the park looking at bronze statues of famous horses. Sat in a small grandstand and watched the Parade of Horses where young costumed women show various breeds of horses in an arena. For example, a young woman dressed like a ... read more

Try not. Do or do not. There is no try. -Yoda Wise words indeed. Welcome back faithful reader to the great mystery/science fiction/comedy/broadway musical that is my life. Yes, we've laughed and cried together, waited impatiently for the next blog and been inndated by whimsical nonsence, we've won awards and had to hide from the paparazzi, we've... Well, that's not really true. But maybe you've enjoyed it nonetheless. In the classic form of presentations (note, if you will, that for the purposes of this sentence I'm pronouncing that word "preeeeeeeeeeeeeezintashins" and imagining myself wearing a monacle - not 100% sure why), I plan on telling you what I'm going to tell you, then telling you, then telling you what I just told you. Shall we begin? Of course we... shall. What I'm going to tell you: ... read more

Hi Everyone!! Yesterday morning in DC we hit up a few museums; The National Geographic Museum and the Holocaust Museum. The National Geographic Museum was alright, they just had a couple exhibits (the Gecko exhibit was the biggest). Getting to the National Geographic was sort of a hike, but it gave us a chance to see a different part of the city that we weren’t staying in. The Holocaust Museum was the one that we really wanted to go to and it was amazing… it was four floors - you take an elevator up to the top and work your way down (i'm so bummed because pictures weren't allowed) it was intense and emotional, I feel like we could have spent a few hours in there but we were trying to get on the road at ... read more

The first question which you will ask and which I must try to answer is this, "What is the use of climbing Mount Everest?" and my answer must at once be, "It is no use." There is not the slightest prospect of any gain whatsoever. Oh, we may learn a little about the behavior of the human body at high altitudes, and possibly medical men may turn our observation to some account for the purposes of aviation. But otherwise nothing will come of it. We shall not bring back a single bit of gold or silver, not a gem, nor any coal or iron. We shall not find a single foot of earth that can be planted with crops to raise food. It's no use. So, if you cannot understand that there is something in man ... read more
