On this day I chose to visit Pearl Harbor, only seeing photos and video of it previously. Much like seeing the Lorraine Motel (http://www.civilrightsmuseum.org/) in Memphis for the first time in person, seeing this historic and still operational military facility in person is a must see if you are on Oahu. The reality is that there really is too much to see in one day, so if you can only spend on day there, get there early. There is the USS Arizona (BB-39) memorial which should be your first stop, with park rangers directing you to where you see a short video first, before being transported the short distance over to the memorial by boat. There is the USS Missouri (BB-63) memorial on which you can spend a good amount of time touring the Battleship upon ... read more

The First stop It had always been a dream of mine to travel the world. I wanted more than the daily nine to five rut, which we can easily get court up in. In 2007, the dream became reality. My partner and I set off on an around the world adventure. Our goal was not to work whilst away; therefore we saved as much money as possible before we left. We sold our car and packed up all our belongings and moved from the Gold Coast Australia to Port Macquarie Australia, with all our belongings jammed into my parent’s spare bedroom. My dream adventure was about to begin and I was very nervous. ... read more

Unfortunately I have just found out that we will no longer be going to Mexico as Alex’s family are too worried about the dangers and have made it clear that it’s a no-go as far as they’re concerned. That means no more Cancun spring break, no more tequila, no more enchiladas and no more sombreros to look forward to. Very sad times. However, instead we shall be going to Hawaii for luaus on the beach and I’m hoping to get to carry out the trip planned in Mexico soon, before I’m too old to fit in with the spring break crowd! ... read more

Koko Head is the headland that defines the eastern side of Maunalua Bay along the southeastern side of the Island of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi. On its western slope is the community of Portlock, a part of Hawaiʻi Kai. Koko Head (at 642 ft or 196 m) is an ancient tuff cone that is somewhat dwarfed by its neighboring tuff cone, Koko Crater, with its peak, Kohelepelepe (or Puʻu Mai), rising to 1208 ft or 368 m. Koko Head itself has three significant depressions or old vents, the largest of which forms the well-known Hanauma Bay. This eastern end of Oʻahu is quite scenic and most of the area is part of Koko Head Regional Park, administered by the City & County of Honolulu. The following features and natural areas are found between Koko Head and the ... read more

It was a dark and stormy night…well actually it was a cool and rainy morning when we sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge. As we made our approach to land we could see the towers of the bridge glowing in the distance. We hit the ground running since we wanted to spend some time on our boat and had a number of errands to do at home in Sausalito. We picked up our rental car and drove over the bridge we had just passed under. Even in the rain, our boat, Mana, looked beautiful bobbing in her slip. Our tenant, Aine, was out of town for the day but told us we could visit our home. We saw some of our neighbors, took luggage to storage, met up with Adele at our favorite Chinese restaurant and ... read more

Geburtstag in Hawaii?

... read more

You'll find a lot of photos in this entire travel blog as my ultimate hobby is photography and I'm a definite believer in "a picture is worth a thousand words". Normally at Christmas I'd go to a Travel Agency and tell them what I want to do, but this year I booked everything online myself and started researching my trip in August, for a December departure. It all started with the idea of maybe I'd take a cruise out of the States around the Caribbean, which I'd never seen before. I also thought that booking everything early would also give me cheap fares. As I have a friend in Las Vegas, I thought whilst I'm there I may as well pop up to see her also, but trying to book one way flights from Sydney/Miami/Las Vegas/Sydney ... read more
