Chattanooga TN – Stone Mountain GA Stone Mountain Park Campground Days 37 - 38 After another short drive and mostly easy drive we arrived in Stone Mountain GA. I say mostly easy because it has been some time since we have had to deal with city traffic. Stone Mountain is only 16 miles from Atlanta GA, and all of its wonderful traffic. The campground has 325 campsites and several rental trailers and yurts available for rent. Our sites definitely have the best view we have had in a campground yet. Once the motorhome was setup, I worked on getting the TV setup outside before the Eagles –San Francisco playoff game started. It was a great afternoon watching the game, grilling wings and overlooking the lake. At 5:30 we heading over to the base of the mountain, ... read more

This truly is a nice campground. We are on the loop pretty much dedicated for rally’s, so it is not as pretty as some of the others, but it is still very nice. There are about 30 campsites on our loop, and we take up 19 of them. Each has a grill and fire ring, is paved, and has a concrete patio with cement picnic table. All are terribly unlevel. They look flat, but all slope, and no rig is totally level. As long as you sleep with your head higher than your feet, you are ok. The first 2 days it rained, so we opted to do indoor attractions. Monday we went to the aquarium. We purchased the city pass for $80, which gave us admission to five downtown attractions for the price of 3. ... read more

You all probably know, due to health issues, I did not get on a Winter Snowbird trip in January. I made some tough decisions, my health dictated my choices. It was horrible staying home during those cold, damp dreary winter months. My goal was to be in tip top shape by 3/26, the date for my trip to Ireland. I accomplished that and had a great trip with girlfriends. But, I got sick at the end of the trip, and ended up at the doctor upon return for a sinus infection and bronchitis. I recovered enough in time to go to NJ for Maggie’s confirmation, which did not happen due to circumstances beyond all control, but my plane ticket was purchased, so I went. I got home and quickly packed the RV with friend Marilyn’s help, ... read more

Today was expected to be a long and uneventful day. It was long. It was mostly uneventful. Actually the hotel was very comfortable and we both got a good night's sleep. We were up at 6:00am, no special feat for Jody, but certainly an effort for me. But, we're on a trip and I don't want to spend most of it sleeping. We try to get up at 6, showered and breakfasted by 7 and on the road by 7:30. This gets us a jump on travel time before it gets too hot. Today didn't really matter about the heat, because we expected to spend most of the day on the bike. This is the longest travel day of the trip, and the map showed close to 400 miles between St Augustine and Stone Mountain, just ... read more

October 28- October 31 I worked from the RV. The view from my office is beautiful. Autumn in North Carolina cannot be beat. On Thursday, Halloween, it was rainy, dark, windy and just spooky! By the end of the day, the rain stopped. I was happy about that for the trick or treaters. We went out to our usual Thursday dinner at Avenue M. I thought it would be crowded, but it wasn't. The employees were dressed up for Halloween. Our server, Sarah was dressed for 'Breast Cancer Awareness'. She had put two big pink balloons in her low cut shirt...wow! Another girl was walking around with a clear plastic bag around her, filled with multicolor balloons. They had a contest-you had to guess how many balloons were in her plastic bag. I guessed 54, Ken ... read more

Saturday, August 24 It rained all night. I slept in until 9:30. I took 2 Vicks Night Time pills so I was pretty sleepy. We aren't in a hurry. We have our normal breakfast and then pack up for travel. called Pati; her birthday is today. We leave the park about noon, headed to Stone Mountain, GA. I will be working in ATL this week. Stone Mountain is about 20 minutes from my office. It's a beautiful park. The campground sits on the shores of the lake. We arrived at the park and I decided to go grocery shopping while Ken set up the RV. it's not a lot of work; we really have a routine down. When I returned he had the Red Sox and Dodgers game on. We watched the game for awhile. For ... read more

While I was at work yesterday Ken finished packing up. We gave our 'stuff' (furniture, dishes, etc.) to Christine's nephew (a friend from work). We were able to sell the TV. We did acquire too much in the last year. We will spend much of the weekend organizing and purging. I think we have 16 pillows between the RV and apartment. We had extras for guests in the RV and extras for guests in the apartment, besides the ones we bought for the apartment. Fortunately we haven't thrown anything away...always find someone to receive it. Just this morning Ken gave away two reclining lounge chairs that we had bought for our balcony at the apartment. He gave them to two tent campers at the campground. Neither one us were sad to say goodbye to the apartment. ... read more

Time to rise and shine and climb Stone Mountain! We have to call Ouma before we leave camp, HAPPY BIRTHDAY OUMA!! We walk around the lake and meet more little friends and play with some very friendly geese. Then take the shuttle to the mountain, then take the Skylift up to the top of Stone Mountain. On the top you can see for many miles. There are holes in the stone that make interesting puddles and rock formations. We start the long hike down, along with a lot of other people. We see lots of neat things, and at the bottom, even a bunch of telephone poles covered in bubble gum (yuk!) We visit Confederate Hall at the bottom, then take the shuttle to the Crossroads area to have lunch. The Campfire Grill is delicious and ... read more

Day 3- Stone Mountain Georgia is the place Oupa and Grandma took mommy (Amanda) on their first road trip. It only took 3 hours from Chattanooga to drive here. First thing we did is set up camp, eat Quesadillas for lunch, then off to ride the train around the mountain. The Crossroads entertainment area has plenty of shows and things to see and do. We listened to a story teller, watched a 4-D movie "Journey to Mysterious Island 2" and followed the "Bubble Man" all over the park! Ice Cream and off we go, back to the camp, to swim in the pool.... read more

Stone Mountain I spent most of today at Stone Mountain. I first encountered it last Saturday for the laser show. Stone Mountain is a granite monolith, the largest in the world. This means the entire mountain is a single block of granite stuck in an area of rolling hills. There are much larger granite blocks in the world (think of the Sierra Nevada) but they are all part of mountain ranges. Stone Mountain stands alone. The north face of the mountain is nearly vertical. It contains the world’s largest relief carving, Confederate heroes Jefferson Davis, Robert E Lee, and Stonew... read more
