History is what it is; and the antebellum period is an important part of Georgia's history. A "Plantation" near the base of Stone Mountain is a collection of pre-civil war buildings that have been moved to the site and set up like a little village. The Dickey House is stunning. Because of so many other things going on, we limited our visit to the one home. So we missed the farm animals, various outbuildings and the "four holer necessary house." Very interesting interpretive signage in the downstairs dining room indicated that the residents would propably excape the Georgia summer heat by going to "places north like Saratoga, NY."... read more

Stone Mountain, near Atlanta, Georgia, is magical. We're camping in a virtual four star resort. Two golf courses, choice of nice restaurants, history, geology, fun, scenery, boating, and fishing. Bicyclers are here in droves. Family activities include mini golf, a train ride around the mountain and an incredible high top "Sky Hike"course” with kids in harnesses attached to a zip line. November is great here. No crowds, other than 6,145 fourth graders and their chaperones here on a field trip on Friday. The students are learning so much from a Native American cultural celebration and colorful Pow Wow, here through Sunday. The natural beauty of this massive granite outcropping can be compared with Ayer's Rock in Australia. The foliage is splendid. The reflection in the lake surrounding the mountain doubles the view. Hola! Welcome to the Costa Rica Mission Team blog! Our mission is to do our part in completing the Great Commission by ministering to children in Costa Rica through Vacation Bible School, Music, Sports & Evangelism. The team (as they appear in the picture) Standing: Carla Pearson, Kevin Boothe, Tamara Anderson, Luis Chavarria, Drew Rios, Alfred Jackson, Angela Carano, Kelly Kuettner, Susie Sinclair. Sitting: Kenya Day, Lisa Dudley and Andrea Jackson and Greg Smith (not pictured). We will leave for Costa Rica on July 21st to July 28th. On the 21st, we fly out on Delta @ 6:47pm and arrive in San Jose @ 8:42pm (their time) and on the 28th, on Delta @ 1:00pm and arrive back in Atlanta @ 7:04pm. This is how we spent independence day! We spent a hot a humid Fourth of July at Stome Mountain in GA. The sky was clear most of the day and then intense thunder storms rolled in.
