We spent 5 sunny days in Maimon, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. We stayed at the Riu Complex where the service was wonderful. The staff is incredibly happy and friendly. Most of our days were spent on the beach. We only did 2 excersions. Horseback riding and a city tour. The city tour consisted of a cable car ride, trip to the amber museum, trip to the amber/larimar factory, cigar factory, rum factory, fort of san fillippe and city of San Fillippe (Puerto Plata). The tour was nice but there isn't much to see in the city. The shopping was awful. I think that part of the trip was a waste of time. The cable car ride was incredible. Mexico was so fun the first time that we decided that we had to get back there. We were there from New Years Eve until January 4. We didn't do many excursions this time... I guess we did almost all of them last time... But we did do a snorkel trip to the reef, where we saw a SHARK! It was a 7 foot Nurse Shark. Supposedly the friendliest shark there is. Eric saw a sting ray. We said in Playacar (an area of Playa Del Carmen). The rest of the time was spent relaxing on the beach. Well relaxing until I got sick... We FINALLY spent 5 days in Cozumel, Mexico. And most of you know why I say finally. Well, if you don't it's because there was a hurricane on our first attempt and a family emergency the second. So this was going to be our third and final attempt. But it worked out! We stayed at the Wyndham Cozumel and loved it. The Mexican people were some of the most friendly and accommodating we have experienced. Even though our hotel was all inclusive, we didn't spend that much time there. We went to Chichen Itza, and Tulum and then rented a Jeep and toured the island. That took up 3 days and we were only there for 5. But I managed to take a lot of photos so it looks like we were there for a month. ... read more
