Finally the time has come.. there has been enough talk about me finally meeting Scott's family.. and now I have. Scott and I spend almost a week with his mom in St Petersburg, right outside Tampa, Fl. We spent the mornings going to the beach or pool and the afternoon with his sisters, doing homework, playing board games, going swimming, and giving Scott a day of beauty. Yup you heard right, he got his hair done, nails painted, and even a mini facial..including cucumber slices!!! Hahahaha.. what he won't say is that he actually enjoyed it? ;-) Didn't you Scott? We also were able to take the girls out of school on friday and with them and his mom we went to Busch Gardens! We spent the day riding rollercoasters, going on "safari", spending way too ... read more

I left Bishop at the beginning of November to do some family stuff. Getting from Bishop to the airport in Vegas 5 hours away became....tricky. Well, why not take a bus? There's a bus that runs from Bishop to Reno. That's about 5 hours. Bishop is just south of Mammoth, a skiers mecca. A bus would be the simple solution. Yeah. My dad spent hours on the phone with the everyone in Bishop including the Chamber of Commerce to find a way from Bishop California to Las Vegas Nevada. There is no bus. When my dad asked, "Why???" The lovely lady informed my dad that they'd have to go over a mountain range. Oh. Ok. Duh!? But, I can catch a bus from Bishop, take a 5 hour drive to Reno, THEN catch a bus to ... read more

A quiet morning by the pool reading an F1 magazine... doesn't get much better for me. Lazed around in the sun, then went for a walk along the beach in the afternoon, spotting a Karmhan Ghia for sale. Bargain at $5200 - less than £3000, and only 33,000 miles. I'd already set up my car import export company. I'll source the cars over here and ship them back to Scotland for Ryan to sell. A perefect plan ruined by the fact I am skint and have no job to earn money. Wonder if they would take Mastercard?. After walking back the few miles I'd traipsed along the beach I could hear tonights entertainment kick off. He had the looks of Mr T and the musical ability to match, I pity the fool. So avoiding Mr T, ... read more

I waved goodbye to Orlando, scoffing to myself that I was off to see the real America, unlike these naïve holiday makers. Heading for Tampa Bay down the Interstate, excitement came my way in the shape of a fire truck; sirens blaring, zooming up behind me. Only the real drama came from me scrabbling to find my camera in time to capture this Kodak moment. I clicked, the fire truck passed and everyone was a winner. Breaking through the city limits of Tampa armed with my book of discount coupons and a need for a cheap motel. Pplanning on staying at Treasure Island, a small Gulf Coast facing strip of land East of Tampa Bay. Between looking online and at my magazine I came up with the Satellite Motel which was the best value at 45 ... read more

Hello friends While in Saint Petersburg, one of the beach towns on the Florida Golf coast, I had an incredible time getting to know the work of the great Spanish artist Salvador Dali. The Dali museum displays the most comprehensive private collection of his work in the world. Hundreds of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and writings of one of the most important painters of the 20th century. Why Dali in Florida? An american couple, very good friend's of Dali, spent 40 years collecting hundreds of his art work, and with the support of Florida opened the museum. Salvador Dali escaped to the US during the WWII. What an eccentric and controversial painter, sculptor, photographer, that fellow was! He described himself in peculiar ways: "The difference between me and a mad man is that I am not mad", ... read more

As the map below shows, I haven't been to nearly enough places. I've recently completely a cross-country US road-trip that I intend to write out the details of. To make things interesting, I also ought to transcribe my Pacific Challenge trip of two years ago. Finding pictures will be the difficulty in that endeavor. Currently I'm adventuring on the coast of Treasure Island, taking care of a couple of seadogs. Someone get on my case if more exciting news hasn't reached this site in a few days. Yeah, and I wanted to put an exclamation point at the end of my username. Alas, I was twarted. Visited Countries Map ... read more

St Petersburg Resort The wife and I checked into this great resort back in May of 2004 as a birthday trip for myself. We wanted to check out St Petes Beach, which I've never been to, and also to maybe hit Busch Gardens when we got bored. The Dolphin Beach Resort was really nice and the service was great. The employees seemed genuinely courteous and friendly and were well informed about the local area. One of the guys actually knew of some great vegan restaurants that we ate at. We ate at the Rollin’ Oats Market and café, which wasn’t 100% vegan, but they had some options for us. Plus we were able to pick up stuff to take back to the resort and eat later. We also tried out Evo’s which is a fast food ... read more
