First thing we did was head to T-Mobile to fix the internet connection problem I've been having. The guy fixed it in about 5 minutes. When he realised where I was from he said he knew someone from Tanzania. I think he meant Tasmania. Next up was Sports Authority Field at Mile High - The home of the Denver Broncos. We had to wait a while for the tour to start so we headed to the gift shop, but unfortunately they had everything but the jersey I actually wanted. Apparently this jersey is hard to find across the city for some reason. Once the tour started it was fantastic. They took us to the media boxes, some corporate suites, the away team's locker room and onto the field. The away team's locker room was interesting. Basically ... read more

Longest.Day.EVER! Arrived at Melbourne Airport around 9.30am to find the check-in line was huge. I only just made check-in in time. Flight to LAX was ok. A bit too bumpy so I didnt really get much sleep. So uncomfortable. Customs at LAX was a breeze, unfortunately. This meant I had a long (4 hour) layover just waiting around the terminal. One odd thing is they make you remove any jackets and even your shoes whenever you got through a security checkpoint. Makes for an even more tedious airport experience. And unbelievably, there are three Starbucks' in the one terminal. For breakfast at a diner themed place, I ate Cinnamon French toast with syrup and apple smoked bacon. It seemed like an odd combination but it was quite good. The bad part was the endless supply of ... read more

Hi, Thanks, Katie for being willing to take me to airport! I land in Hanoi Vietnam at 10pm on a Saturday nite (28hr flight plus 14hr time difference). I'll be staying at the Hanoi Hibiscus Hotel until at least the 12th, located in the heart of the old quarter. Should be interesting. I don't know that I'm going to blog all the time but wanted to get things on a good foot.... read more

This morning (Friday 2nd December) I was awoken by my phone ringing at 4.05am. It was a recorded message from Amtrak to say that my train had been cancelled!! Yup, I was wide awake. First things first, get a coffee! Second, think things through, yeah right, at 4.00am in the morning? I'm a morning person but 4.00am is pushing even my boundries. Thirdly make the call to the number provided, yeah good idea, find out what is really happenning. Phew!!! The woman on the phone (a real woman that talked to me) tells me that the train is running late and just go to the station a couple of hours later that scheduled. Hmmm, that's good news but now I'm really awake. OK more coffee, rebook the shuttle. I'm thinking that I'll sleep later... after dark.... ... read more

Traffic at 7:05am along Santa Fe is atrocious unless you are using the carpool lane. Oh yea, carpool for those of you without a clue means 2 or more people in a car unless you like $500 fines? Driving along we made record time to Union Station only to find out Amtrak has moved to 21st and Wewatta streets. Close enough. But close enough to be off when you are trying to catch a train. This is NOT Korea nor Japan. Heck. If I was there, I'd have missed my train. Twice. Dropped off at the office. Checked in. Ticketed. Prepared to climb on board car 512. Jumpin on board the train as its whistle fired up. I found an empty set of seats. Stuffing in my ticket and sitting down. Unbelievable. Space. Leg rests. Power ... read more

Geo: 39.74, -104.992I've been working on this last entry for weeks. And I still have no idea what to say. There's so much! Summarize five months, dozens of states, scores of highways, hundreds of interactions, and thousands of miles into a few paragraphs. Even once the words do find themselves, I know there will be more. Every memory will multiply. Movies, conversations, and just basic life will trigger thoughts and emotions that I will wish to include here. This entry may just become a myriad of random, unrelated thoughts, and will likely also be a work in progress. To those of you who are reading this, to those who checked in at any point, to those whom I saw along the way, to those who gave me a couch, a shower, company, hope, encouragement - in all ... read more

During my two extra days in Denver, I didn't get around to doing much. I did take a good walk around town and took pictures, but for the most part, I stayed at my hostel, used the internet to research my itinerary ahead, and watched movies. I watched Stargate, which was an enjoyable movie. Then went to the cinema on Saturday to see The Thing. That was pretty good, but very predictable. For food I would usually head to Quiznos or Subway. But lately I've been going to 7-Eleven to get myself Hot Pockets and Pizza, cookable by microwave. I had never tried Hot Pockets - I don't think we have them in Australia. They were delicious. As for tomorrow's journey, I will be en route to Chicago, which will be a long trip. The longest ... read more

Geo: 39.74, -104.992In a small college town, the differences between closing time on a Saturday night and 9 AM the following morning are astounding. Overnight, some great alien race (perhaps called Alcoholians or Ganjites) completely eradicates all that was existing and replaces it a anew. The smells are different, the sights are different, as are the sounds and, of course, the inhabitants. Where hours earlier dozens of swaying, noisy, alcohol and hormone fueled bodies poured out of narrow doors in obscure recesses, there are now quaint sidewalks and sapling trees with colorful flowers deliberately planted amongst their roots. Where there were empty buildings and dark, uninviting windows there are now delightful tables, cheery townspeople, and the smells of fried eggs, greasy bacon and fresh baked goods. Where there was a tipsy student waving a cigarette and ... read more

October 14- Friday Stopped in Denver and met my Nephew's fiance Lauren at a restaurant in Arvada. They had a pretty good Angus, Swiss, and mushroom burger and very tasty fries. We split the tab and Lauren left a hefty tip. While waiting for her to get off work I explored the area near the restaurant and found where the library was located. It is a nice library with lots of tables for wireless internet. Hopefully I will get another chance to visit there after the snow flies. On the way to Denver I made a side trip exploring the Pike National Forest. It was nice but I bet it gets very crowded in summer being this close to Denver. There must have been a big fire there last summer. Thousands of acres of forest are ... read more

Today wasn't much of a day, but I need to say that I am going to be stuck in Denver for another two days, since there were no hostels available in Chicago - my next stop. There were only rooms available two days later, so I used those two extra days to stay here, in Denver. There's not going to be that much I can do, but I've gotta try and make the best of it. There is not much to do in Denver other than to walk around. So that's what I did. I checked out some of Downtown. There is a main street going through the middle, where they have a free bus going through every so often. I spent most of my time down here to eat. There isn't much else to do. ... read more
