Today was my last day in the United States. I've spent the past two days packing and preparing for my study abroad trip to Barcelona. It feels like there is so much to prepare for and pack; I hope I bring everything I need. I thought I was in a pickle when I was looking for my travel documents. I knew I needed to have my visa with me but I didn't know where it was. Luckily, my mom told me it was inside my passport, which gave me some peace of mind. Unfortunately, this will be my last night in the Glenarm Apartments in Denver. I'll miss it when I return to the United States because it overlooks the 16th Street Mall, a very popular street with shops, restaurants, and bars in Denver. Hopefully I'll ... read more

Woke up this morning and had a Bagel at Einstein Brothers (http://www.einsteinbros.com/) and a Pumpkin Latte. Will and Rachel where gracious enough to spend their day taking me into the Rocky mountains. We went to a place called Indian Peaks National Park it is 10 000 feet above sea level (http://www.coloradowilderness.com/wildpages/indian.html) We took an amazingly beautiful walk. We had lunch in a small mountain town Called Nederland :) This town reminds me somewhat of the town of Clarens in the Drakensburg. We spent the Afternoon at Paul's house looking at an amazing air craft show from his back porch. I also had my first taste of American wine called Syrah. Paul bought it in Napa Valley. ... read more

Spent my first Saturday doing a bit of shopping and BBQ at Will's House I went to the Park Meadows Mall and bought some shirts and Jeans. I also bought a nice pair of Nike Sneakers (Which is insanely cheaper than in South Africa) I took the Denver Lite Rail (http://www.rtd-denver.com/lightRail_subHome.shtml) to get to Park Meadows Mall (http://www.parkmeadows.com/) and spent about 4 Hours there. Will picked me up and we bought some awesome Rib-Eye Steak. We had a BBQ at Will and Rachael's House. I met Paul, Wayne (another ex South African we seem to be anywhere) and his wife Melissa. Will has this really cool Ceramic BBQ Weber type Grill. Will was feeding pulling out some really cool Beers for us to try. I have to admit I am not big on the Sour Bear ... read more

My First days in Denver have gone by in a blur. I went to the Sunflower Market and got some food to stock the kitchen (See Picture) I found the food really good and great value for Money. Going on some of the documentaries I have seen I expected fresh food to be really expensive here and I found it to be the some price as South Africa, If not slightly cheaper. Took at walk to CB and Potts to try some of the local Micro Brewery beer (and some awesome ribs) The beet sampler was a great suggestion (thank Will) it allowed me to try all the beers. I went to the movies at United Artists Movie theater in the tech center. One of the few things I have found really expensive in Denver. $14 ... read more

18. august 2011 kl. 7:26 – dag 6 Morning in Denver, Colorado Kanskje 1600 meters høyde gjør noe med folk.

Geo: 39.7392, -104.985As planning progressed, we soon realized how large an area we were planning to cover, and given the fact that the tourist season is literally only a couple months long in some of the places we hoped to visit, it was essential that we plan well and make all of our arrangements as far in advance as possible. David and his family were able to come out for just over a week, whereas we had a few extra days, so we decided that Katherine, Anna, and I would fly out and visit Glacier National Park in Montana, and then drive up to meet David, Katie and the girls in Calgary, from where we'd visit the Canadian parks. All the flight arrangements, which were a little tricky, were booked exactly a year out, as were ... read more

Today is a real vacation day, and I had time to review your comments to my blog - thanks, its so nice to have feedback. This morning, DDN flew Michel and me over the Rockies - and did land on the highest airport in North America (and Europe as well). That is Lake Co airport in Leadville, about 150 km West of Denver, and its elevation is 9927 ft. Considering that I came from Rotterdam with an elevation of -15 ft, DDN has climbed all of 9942 ft (3030 m), good machine! The airport has a 2 km runway, and it probably need that length, at least we used about 1.2 km during take-off, but the density altitude had reached 11800 ft - quite high for the 180 hp engine. But I had not refueled to ... read more

Well it's now 1am in the UK on Wednesday morning (8pm Tuesday in NYC) and I'm still travelling......18.5 hours since I arrived in Manchester Airport!! I've gone through 1 time zone & I think about to go through another. I’m currently in the air to Denver & to be honest I haven't got a clue if I should be tired, hungry & are starting to have that jet lag sick feeling. Well the first good news is I weighed in at 18.5kg! Obviously not me (I think my 2 legs alone weigh more than 18kg) but my suitcase. My next worry is if my case is actually on the same plane as me as we speak. I left it with some random baggage handler at “baggage recheck” in Terminal 1 at Newark & are hoping it’s ... read more
