Sorry for the lack of updates. We didn't have internet access whilst we were in Yosemite and have only just acquired it now we have arrived in Las Vegas. We left San Francisco on Monday and on our way out of the city, we drove down the famous winding Lombard street that has been in various films etc. Our hotel was located just outside of the Yosemite national park entrance and had a great view of the Merced river that flows through the park. The park covers over 3000 square km with numerous peaks and valleys providing spectacular views. We went rafting down the river and were able to enjoy the views whilst drifting on the water. The flow was generally slow moving, although it did get a little more lively at some points which was ... read more

Death Valley to Yosemite National Park. Needed a very good start today as drive to Yosemite National Park well over 350 miles. Bought stamps at the Ranch post office and got our postcards stamped with the “Death Valley” mark before setting off at 8am. Our route took us through another long stretch of Death Valley. We could not imagine how anyone could work in these temperatures but there was a lot of mining right across the area a century ago, especially of Bauxite. (No idea what they do with Bauxite, must look it up when I have my Google back again !). We passed a Bauxite mine and then some rather spectacular sand dunes. The sort of desert area we have flown over in the Sahara, just plain piles of golden sand. Different from the rest ... read more

Up, Up, and Over Today we went up, up, and over the park. After a good nights sleep, a buffet breakfast at the hotel and avoiding a minor emergency we were headed back into Yosemite. The minor emergency is one the kids said I had to include in the blog. Upon exiting the parking lot of the hotel, Donald had a minor panic attack. He said a few words, smoothly put the car in park, stepped outside and grabbed his coffee off the top of the car. Minor emergency avoided. Today's travels took us along the Tioga Road which goes all the way across Yosemite National Park. Though it is less than 50 miles long, it is one of those crazy, curvy, no guard rail, 9000 feet up roads - so it took a while. With ... read more

Going to Yosemite Today began early as most all my days do, but to my surprise the rest of the family also got up early and we were on the road by 7am. It probably had something to do with how uncomfortable the hotel beds were. Regardless of the reason, we were headed to Yosemite and the extra time just meant more daylight hours to see more of the park. We stopped at a local bagel shop and grabbed breakfast and hit the road. After reading a about the various ways to get in to Yosemite, we decided to take the scenic route. After all, we were here to see the sights. The scenic route takes us on the interstate for a few miles with tons of windmills on the hillside, then it takes us on ... read more

2003 wurde Camp 4 in das National Register of Historic Places aufgenommen, Begründung: Its significant association with the growth and development of rock climbing in the Yosemite Valley during the 'golden years' of pioneer mountaineering Da das Camp 4 der billigste Campingplatz und eben sehr beliebt ist, darf man sich morgens sehr früh anstellen und maximal pro Person eine Woche bleiben. Taucht man in der Schlange um sechs Uhr ... read more

Geri drove our coach to Mariposa just outside Yosemite National Park. We checked into the Yosemite Lodge and then met our guide David Lukas. Our first view from the view point, of the Yosemite Valley was impressive. El Captain, Yosemite Falls , Half Dome, they were all there in immense grandeur. Breath taking!!... read more

Since Tioga Pass from the east was closed and caused us to change our plans of crossing Nevada to get to California. our approach to the park from the south allowed us to see several prominent landmarks, half dome, el capitian, and the falls. We had our picture taken with that backdrop. The park was crowded, and unlike some of the others, individual cars were permitted to go throughout the park. This early in the season it was packed, I would not like to travel here in the summer. A spring visit has bountiful waterfall displays. We hiked to Bridal Veil falls and could not go as far we wanted to because the mist from the falls showered us with water like a spring rainfall. While on our walk of the Village, we noticed gravestones of ... read more

Our first stop in our national park adventure was not actually a park, but the town of Pleasanton, CA. We needed to meet up with a friend of mine who was coming to Yosemite with us, so we picked this town off the map since it sounded pleasant. And it was! It had a lovely main street lined with big trees, fun cafes and funky shops. I hadn't seen Sarah since the wedding, so we were looking forward to going camping in such an iconic place together. Once we had our supplies and had checked our route on the maps, we set off towards the mountains. We drove through some of the driest areas I had ever seen, even drier than where we live in Australia. There were rolling hills of brown dirt, dust and long-dead ... read more

Kevin and Olivia had an annual year pass to Yosemite National Park. It was my first visit to the park. We got a "cabin" (more like a hotel room) and checked out the park from there. It was a memorable trip indeed.... read more

Had to get up at 4am for this but it was definitely worth it, absolutely majestic, tranquil and beautiful, this is the America I wanted to see. The guide told us that it generally takes climbers two days to scale the wall of El Capitan or as the Native Americans call it To-to-kan oo lah which I think sounds much nicer. You could just imagine a Native American on his horse with his bow and arrow looking down at the valley beneath. Simply beautiful!! The only down side was that the waterfalls were a mere trickle as the rainfall has been so low in the area this year. Shame but thats life. Going back to San Francisco sure you will like the photo of Golden Gate bridge!!! In the fog!!! Hmmm a tad disappointing but am ... read more
