We left for the Yosemite Valley today and I could not believe how busy and unsatisfying it was. Only the Lower Yosemite Falls were trickling, and even then I over heard someone saying they especially pump it up there for the tourists. We went to the Ansell Adams Gallery which was great and I bought a book. After taking one trail to the lower falls which was very disappointing and managing to spend a lot of time in gift shops looking at presentations and exhibits, we got a shuttle bus to the main parking lot to get our car to drive to Yosemite Tunnel View and the Dome Look Out Point. There was no rhyme or reason to the parking here, and people just seem to park all higgedly piggedly. The signs were very confusing as ... read more

We left in time to make the gate opening the Ghost Town at 9am. It was probably better in the morning to take pictures anyway as most of the interesting buildings were facing east. It was a photographer’s delight. Not long after we got the park which was spread over a very large area, Bobby decided to go off exploring on his own. For at least an hour I had no idea if he was at the bottom of a disused mine shaft or kidnapped. Probably a disused mine shaft as he has an unusual obsession which this. I had a ball photographing everything, as it was a total photographer’s delight. The kids got a Junior California Ranger’s Badge for answering a few questions about the park. The visit however, was very much soured by the ... read more

Off to Yosemite today – about 4hr drive to the gate. Yosemite is HUGE! and AWESOME! We stopped at the visitor’s center to plan our stay. We saw El Capitain, Bridal Falls, Half Dome and the monstrous rock walls lining the valley! So impressive! Pictures can't relate the impact you feel when standing in the valley looking all around. No climbers on the walls – it was afternoon by this time and too hot. The magnitude of this park is what is so impressive! The views were amazing! We drove the Yosemite Valley loop and then down to the south end to see Mariposa Grove which holds the giant Sequoias. We walked the grove and saw the Grizzly Giant – UNBELIEVABLE! 96ft circumferance and 209ft tall. Truly a Giant! Also in that grove were the first ... read more

Bittersweet it was to be leaving our 5-star bed and breakfast to hit the road again. Getting ready this morning was like starting a new trip. We cleaned out the car, restocked the snacks, and resorted our clothes. We began our 4 hour long trek to Oakhurst, CA which sits at the south entrance of Yosemite National Park. Of course, the beginning is your traditional city highway, and then comes the two lane road and 'watch for deer' signs. We arrived to Oakhurst at about 2:00pm and it was hot. 'Do we go now? Do we go later?' we thought to ourselves. After leaving '85-in-the-day-and-55-in-the-night' San Francisco, the heat was a rude awakening. We ate a quick lunch and headed to the south gate. Our destination was the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. What a treat! ... read more

Back on June 18th, my brother drove us to a Hertz in Berkeley where we picked up what would be our mode of transport across the country, a bright red Toyota Rav4 - sweet... free upgrade! The drive from Berkeley to Yosemite was visually unstimulating, but the excitement that we were on the road, covering the first 160 miles of what would be several thousand, transformed the arid farms and ranches along the drive into an exciting and welcoming setting. This trip we had dreamed about for years and planned months ago was at last underway. Just a few hours on the road and we entered the boundaries of Yosemite National Park. At the entrance to the park, we purchased our interagency park pass (which would give us access to all the parks we visited on ... read more

Took a two week adventure to California. Visted my cousins and they showed me San Francisco where they reside and the surrounding area. While in San Fran I hit up many local spots including the Tee Off which has amazing food if you ever head to the outer richmond region. Hops and Hominey is another must stop for food if your in downtown San Fran. As well we visted the California Academy of Sciences, a Giants game and much more. Then we headed north to Lake Tahoe where we spent two beautiful days on the lake, and then headed to Yosemite National Park. Unfortuantly we only had time to do the drive through, but I plan on going back and getting the full experiance!... read more

“You should ask for her Facebook account now,” Joseph tells me as the bus hisses and slows down at our first stop in the Yosemite National Park nearly 200 miles east of San Francisco. It has been around four hours since we left the City by the Bay at dawn and the bus is set to depart for Los Angeles, where the 12-day bus tour concludes. But we have other plans. Instead of going with the bus to L.A., our group will stay behind somewhere between Yosemite and Fresno and wait for Tito Boy, Tita Fenny and Paolo (who stayed behind L.A. to rent a van) and pick us up going to Tita Fenny’s sister Tita Liz and her husband Tito Danny in Lathrop. Which is why Joseph is pressuring me to get the Singaporean girl’s ... read more

Yet another 7am breakfast in our room at Yosemite Lodge Hotel before setting off for Bishop across the mountains. Yosemite Village is at 4,000 ft but we had to cross the mountain pass we had only recently opened at almost 10,000ft. The weather was cloudy this morning for the first time since our arrival and cooler than it had been previously. A tortuos twisty climb up into the hills with the temperature falling all the time with the altitude gained. At the highest point the temperature dropped to 27 degrees farenheit (32 degrees is freezing) and we drove through a light snowfall. The views coming out of the mountains was stunning and we passed the Mamouth Ski resorts as we lost altitude the weather cleared and the sun came and temperature slowly rose. We had a ... read more

Last full day in Yosemite Vally. This has to be the highlight of the tour for me (Bob). The scenery is breathtaking and the climbing is mind blowing. A now normal 7am breakfast before driving back into the valley to go Sentinel Dome. A spectacular granite dome above glacier point. On the way there we encountered 3 mule deer walking along the road and a bit further on we saw a large black bear run very fast across the road in front of us. No photographs though he was to fast. Unfortunately Dinah did not see him as she was in the back on the wrong side. I suppose this is the luck of the draw. She was very disappointed. It was quite cool to start the walk today because of the cooling weather and the ... read more
