Bin bald aufgstandn, hab mit Tobi telefoniert, Pancakes gefruehstueckt und darauf gewartet, dass Hanna vorbeikommt, weil sie gesagt hat, sie holt mi ab. Hanna is die netteste Rasta-Lady, die i jemals getroffen hab. Unglaublich. Und der Blumengarten is noch viel schoener!!! Santa Barbara is selbst a eine wundervolle Stadt.

Aba als i ihn gesehen hab, ... read more

Spent yesterday wandering the streets of Solvang having a wonderful time. It felt like being in a fairy tale. In fact we must read all the Hans Christian Anderson Tales again so we can tell our Penny the traditional tales we grew up with. We pulled over into a gateway to check something to find we were visiting the famous horse whisperer's house, Monty Roberts. The scenery was amazing. When we arrived at San Luis Obisto we were even more entranced. We could live here. It feels like a warm Dunedin with students everywhere and a small town feel. We walked down to the centre of town and tried on novalty hats and stood in awe of the range of craft materials on sale. Finally we stopped into the Creeky Tiki for dinner. They had no ... read more

Tuesday March 8 - San Luis Obispo Yesterday went by a Ralf's grocery store here in SLO and found out why so many Californians were so skinny. Cheese cost $3.99 for an 8 ounce package. I can't believe it's not Butter runs $3.69 for a lb. Sardines $2.99 a can. A small box of Grape nuts cereal $4.99. Guess I should have packed in more food from Texas. This would be a good place to go on a diet as eating less is certainly a virtue. Gas for my truck is running $4.11 a gallon for premium which is all I can run in my truck. Will catch up on the details here and then later today drive down to Pismo Beach and Avila Beach and look around. Already went by the office at the Motel ... read more

1st March 2011 Our last day in L.A. before hitting the road for the last time started at a reasonable hour. Showered and wearing clean clothes after my bag finally showed up last night, we made our plan. We headed to reception to book our shuttle to the airport for tomorrow (we have to get to the airport to pick up the car as we could only hire it from there if we want to drop it off in San Francisco) With that sorted out, we made our plan for the day, with the help of Kat. She recommended a few stops on the Metro for us to check out and so we headed out into the big city. We walked to the stop and bought our ticket from the machine. We got a paper ... read more

Tue 19th Oct- Arrived in San Lui Obispo after a long day on the Greyhound, the hostel was a nice little house in a nice neighborhood. We decided to head to the supermarket to buy some food for dinner, we then walked around what we though was the supermarket and wondered why it had no fresh food, gave in and eat in a Mexican, later realised we were actually looking round the pharmacy and that the supermarket was next door!! Wed 20th Oct- We headed downtown in this lovely little town which was surrounded by mountains and had lots of little shops, cafe's, bars etc. It was also really busy which was nice to see. We looked around the historic mission around which the town was founded, walked along the creek and had lunch in a ... read more

Yesterday we spent most of the day tootlin' around the coastline near SLO. We drove up to the Hearst Castle, but I didn't realize it was at the top of the mountain and you had to take a bus tour to get up there...it was $24 each and took nearly 2 hours (and it was an hour to wait for the next tour), so needless to say, we didn't make it up there. We did walk around the visitor's center and learned about WR Hearst. Then we headed to the pier at San Simeon (just across the road, really, from the visitor's center). It was chilly and we needed jackets. There were a LOT of swimmers in the ocean, however... Then drove a bit further north to see the elephant seals. They have a really loud ... read more

Yesterday we drove down to San Luis Obispo. Finally found some sun...had been misty and overcast the whole time we were in Moss Landing. The drive down 101 reminded us both so much of the Yakima Valley. There were big hills on either side of the valley, and lots of farms and vineyards along the river. It was warm (80) around Paso Robles, but really nice (75) with a light breeze when we arrived. We're staying at the Eagles here, so got settled in their back parking lot and went in to check it out. We met Rick, who lives here 5 months and Tucson the rest of the year in his 5th wheel, so he gave us lots of tips for the "lay of the land"!! He also introduced us to everyone in the joint!! ... read more

rather late - but better late than not at all Sunday 31 May this is definitely a catchup - all those missing days in San Luis Obispo! - where did the time go?? too hard to write stuff when you are staying with someone and being social - and its hard enough when yo is on the road and wondering where the next stop is gonna be! Being written on the new laptop on the Capitol Corridor Amtrak train which runs from San Jose to Sacramento - the State capital if y'all forgot. Boz Scags - Dig (recentish - not Silk Degrees - do not think I could still listen to that due to 70's over-exposure) - is a suitably low-key soundtrak on the Ipod. now to San Luis Obispo - where did that come in? ... read more
