Since my Niners are not in the Super Bowl, I will watch from home, and enjoy some good food like most of you. I think the menu calls for chips and guacamole to start. This will be followed by lamb chops, rice, and greens. Dessert? Probably the All-American favorite, apple pie! The Super Bowl is second only to Thanksgiving in terms of food consumption. What are the rest of you eating? If you are taking the over/under on the food prices, take the over on higher food prices than 2021. The projection for chicken wings alone is 1.42 billion (over 100 million pounds) chicken wings! I wonder what they do with the rest of the chickens? Over half of Americans prefer to dip their wings in ranch dressing. Pizza is the top snack for the Super ... read more

We left our lovely Skagit Bay this morning, with a full moon setting behind Hope Island and a temperature of 20 degrees.... The Cascade and the Olympic Mountains were snow-covered, and Mt Rainier was magnificent from the plane. We flew from Seattle to Los Angeles, and checked into our hotel in the early evening. Getting to the hotel was not easy. We called the hotel and asked for a pickup. We were told to look for a white van marked "Comfort Inn" Shortly, a white van marked "Comfort Inn" pulled up. We got in, and headed out into rush hour traffic. As we finally neared the hotel, the other passengers were wondering if the hotel was actually open, since they had gotten an email informing them that it had become a Quality Inn. We had received ... read more

Miasto Aniołów każdy zna z amerykańskich filmów i seriali.

Even with one less person/ set of luggage, somehow our dark blue, 15-passenger van (lovingly dubbed "Iron Hide") was still packed to the rims with 10 red duffle bags, rolled-up sleeping bags, hard hats and boots (that we never used but were required to bring in case of emergency...), and various other bags as we made the 7 hour treck up from Los Angeles back to Sacramento. This transition week in between projects consists of end of the project paperwork, new project paperwork, debriefings for project 2, briefings for project 3, unpacking, and repacking. Not to mention sleeping in, POD reunions, and dinners out using the rest of the food budget. Transition week in Sac also provides lots of time to get ahead on Independent Service Project hours. As of yesterday I am now officially over ... read more

I left Bozeman at about 2:45pm on Tuesday, and won't be back until Friday, August 6. It's the longest I've ever been away from home, and it's a little crazy that my first experiment with this is in a land as foreign as China. I enjoyed my 2 weeks there last summer, but 6 weeks is another matter. In that respect at least, this trip will serve as an indicator to whether I'd be able to handle moving there, which is my current plan for when I (one day) finish my alleged PhD. The flight from Billings was pleasant enough. I got to the gate with about a half hour to go until boarding, and spent my time checking over my things one last time (as if I could change or un-forget anything now), and making ... read more
