Forget TLC, we were ready for a bit of CLC after completing the Inca Trail. So that´s what we embarked on: C...usco L...ima C...ancun. CUSCO The day after we completed the Inca Trail I was supposed to go white water rafting at 8:30am. Yeah, like that was ever gonna happen. Instead we slept until late morning and went into the town for lunch. In the afternoon we had a massage with accompanying sound effects straight out of a horror film. Natalie was in the next booth to me and as soon as her masseuse started on her thighs and calves (the leg ones, not the veal-investment she made with a cow herder on the trail) she started to screech in pain. The poor masseuse knew little English but kept telling Natalie "I sorry missus, I ... read more

This was my second time in Puerto Vallarta, with the first being back in August of 1996. I did enjoy that trip very much and so I was glad to come back. I flew from Indianapolis to Atlanta on a Delta Connection EMB-170 and connected to Puerto Vallarta(PVR) on a Delta 737-800, getting first class on that flight!! I enjoyed a nice little lunch and a few gin and tonics before touching down in Mexico 3 1/2 hours later. I took a taxi to the Hotel Emperador, which is where I stayed last time I was in PVR. I find the hotel very relaxing, with a good beach. I just spent the day lounging at the beach and I also visited the local Hard Rock Cafe. I was going to go and visit family in Las ... read more

Hola everyone! Hope everyone is good and well - big love comin at ya! We are nearly at the end of our tour of Mexico and are currently, as of today 29th May, at Tulum in the Yucatan Peninnsular (by the beach again for a final 2 weeks of fun). So just wanted to get you upto date with what we have been upto - I am posting 2 x blogs in quick succession as the blog site is referenced by location for other travellers to look up whats happening where, so hope you don't mind the spam. Mexico is a massive country and we have been trying to find places of unusual interest on our journey to the Yucatan and we certainly couldn't have hoped for a more insightful look into the indigenous mayan culture ... read more

Thought I'd share a little more.. Electric bill here at the apt (and I've read that it's common for houses too) comes only every two months. Beto, my apt manager, gave me mine for the last two months. Everybody sitting down or holding on to something??? Mine is $206.00. That's pesos not US Dollars. That's $20.60 (really less with exchange rate). Isn't that great!!?? Course I'm not here 8 to 5 during the weekdays, but on the weekend days it hasn't been too hot when I'm here. Not even as hot as Mauriceville because I can leave my back door open when I'm home (no screen door but no bugs yet) and the windows (screened and levered) are always open. And I have ceiling fans. Nights are really comfy. Sometimes wish I'd brought a robe. And ... read more

So I was sitting here watching the waves hit the beach when I decide I want to play with my step sisters laptop. Imagine my surprise when it can connect to the good old internet from the beach in Mexico. What a crazy world we live in. Anyhow I'm in Mexico for my step sisters wedding and it is literally paradise. Great weather, people and food, and all I have to do all day is take long naps and watch the waves. Life is good. I go back to ABQ (and my stressful life) tomorrow. Next Saturday I leave for India. Life is crazy. Time for another nap.... read more

My FM3 paperwork (work visa) was sent to me at 5pm on Friday. I was so excited! Now (Monday) it may be going to crap unless the company I work with does magic. Otherwise, I'll just have to keep renewing my visitor's permit. (Nope. I won't do immigration bashing since I'm not in my country although I'm perfectly legal here.) Saturday A.M. headed to the beach again. No real beach time this day. Was looking for shoe shop (shoes? who me?) that I had found in January before I moved (temp) down here. Alas, I didn't find it but had a great time walking and looking. Took some more pictures and even finished a roll I had started last month. I promise to develop soon when..... Tried my ATM before leaving Merida. Think my Beaumont bank ... read more

I got off the bus and nearly fell over with dizziness, the heat was intense. The roads became bendy and nauseating, especially when sitting in the aisle seat, this time it was my turn not to have a window seat. This journey felt like I was at Alton Towers on the same ride for a painful five-hour stretch after having devoured a massive Sunday lunch with a sticky cream based pudding for afters. I felt so sick. We went to La Canada area where most hotels are located 2.5km away from the ruins; this is at the end of the main road of Palenque. I felt a little better after some simple white foods, rice, bread water, but then as the night went on it all went horribly wrong. I vomited every microcosm of ingested food ... read more

Our Mexican adventure started with a bit of a panic! On Monday 14th May, we arrived at the Tecun Uman border crossing at 6pm, having travelled by bus from Xela in Guatemala. Our guidebook reliably informed us it was open 24 hours. It was shut. It was open until 7pm, so the Guatemalan side was open, but since Mexico is on daylight savings time, it had shut 5 minutes before. So we raced to the 24 hour border crossing at Talisman by bicycle taxi, foot, 2 combi van collectivos and a taxi, which makes it sounds a bit hectic, which it was, but luckily in Latin America people actually use public transport, so there’s loads of it and it only took about 1 hour. Kez’s hard earned mexican visa got her in without too many ... read more

I am exhausted. Sleep is pretty much just not going to happen between now and home. Last night I cried and ciried and cried and made a last ditch attempt to convince the powers that be to not send me home, then cried and cried and cried some more and panicked a whole lot - all amongst a full evening of work. After work ended I went to the crew party - my last this contract. Everyone is so kind, telling me how much they'll miss me, how the ship won't be the same without me. I just feel so rushed and panicked trying to get everything taken care of. But I'm doing my best to enjoy myself and I have been. Starting today at the beach in Costa Maya. Michelle and I dragged ourselves off ... read more
