Week of May 12-17 My classes ended this week. I turned in my grades and we all decided to do the tourist thing. We went to Cancun. It is a long trip from Queretaro to Cancun, Quintana Roo. So we took the luxury bus from Queretaro to the Toluca Airport (just west of Mexico City) and flew on Interjet Airline to Cancun. We stayed at The Moon Palace Resort and had a great time. Nothing to do but drink, eat, lay in the sun, and go to the shows at night. All-in-all a very relaxing week! A few interesting things to report: THE HYPNOSIS SHOW!! On Wednesday night we went to a hypnosis show. We had actually attended the same show on Sunday night and enjoyed it so much that we returned later in the week. ... read more

On our way to Playa del Carmen we stopped at The Fisherman’s Sunset. This was the “promo” offered by the car rental for $200.00 off the rental fee. This was our first experience and it was to take 90 minutes for an intro and sales pitch. They were trying to sell us a membership at this exclusive resort. If you ever hear about The Fisherman’s Sunset, run…. do not walk, far away. What started friendly turned high pressure and even nasty. Needless to say we did not buy a thing. How many ways to say”NO!” Onward we go to Playa del Carmen. Our hotel is Aventura Mexicana and it is just wonderful, perhaps the nicest of our trip. It is ½ block to 5th Avenue and a short walk to the beach. As we walk ... read more

Puerto Escondido. Sunday. Surfed & sunbathed! Monday. Surfed & sunbathed! What I learned today: Legs hairs are *not* adequate protection from the sun, no matter whether you are Turkish or otherwise. Yeesh! Argh: Arrogent travellers, being a tiny tiny bit lonely Hurray: Free drinks at a bar, everyday from 11pm-11:30pm. Insane heat+humidity! Things that make you say WTF?! I met a great guy from Austria...the 7th district....Burggasse 71 in fact! I live at Burggasse 52. WTF?!!!... read more

Today’s Port of Call is Costa Maya. I think I’ve mentioned before that there is very very little to see at the Port. We stop here mainly because it’s a good jumping off point to visit things farther onland like Mayan ruins. Apparently there’s decent diving and snorkelling somewhere nearby too. There is quite a big cruise terminal area built up filled with shops and bars and market vendors, but I’ve covered all of that already. I got off the ship with Marlize, Brian & Chris, the new social host and we headed to the one place nearby: Mahajaul. Mahajaul is a tiny fishing village. There’s one main road lined with small shops and restaurants and one tiny grocery. The other side of the road is lined with a white sand beach. It’s like a tiny ... read more

Hi everyone, All is well here down on the Yucatan peninsula... we walked up the beach and toured the ruins at Tulum today... quite spectacular, the El Castillo is right on the beach!! Also, great big iguanas sunning themselves on the pillars, and running around all over... Tomorrow we are going to drive into the ruins at Coba... and then head further south down to a place called Punta Allen... We are staying in a little cabana right on the beach... saw another stingray swimming around today... Hope you are all doing well, take care, Cam & Redina ... read more

Puerto Escondido. Yeeeeeeeeeha!! Da beach!! B-) Finally, after a torturous 6hr 2nd class trip from Oaxaca City to PE I got here, the bus took us through 2000m mountains and sort of jungle at lightening speed on those switchback roads that made even *me* feel motion sick at times, and that never happens! As Yoporai would say "Necessito vomitaria"! (sp?) But once I got here, woah! It's beautiful. My two Dulwich friends had left me a little note at reception so I met them at an idylic beach cove surrounded my palm trees and little tiki huts. Muay bueno! The hostel/hotel was PACKED with merrrrrry Oz surfer dudes whom rather monopolised events to the max, a fun bunch but.....very....er.....you know. ;) Ok, so put it this way, at 3am just after I left the bar, ... read more

STAYING Cabanas Tulum PLACES TO VISIT/SEE Coba Coba Coba The Tulum Maya Ruins is perched on a cliff above the turquoise Caribbean waster. It creates the perfect backdrop for the thousands of tourists that visit it each day. The Tulum ruins are made up of mostly small ornate structures with stuccoed gargoyle faces carved into the corners. By far the site’s most impressive structure is El Castillo. Tulum emerged relative late in Mayan history around A.D. 1200. The name Tulum (wall in Mayan) probably refers to the thick stonewall that encloses the site’s 60 ... read more

Hello Well the first leg of our journey is nearly over. We leave for Los Angeles this afternoon, where we have 3 days then we fly to Tahiti where we have another 3 days. Then finally onto Queenstown, New Zealand and job hunting straight away. If we cant find jobs then you all may be seeing us alot sooner than you had hoped. We are currently in Isla Mujeres, a beautful island off Mexicos coast, by Cancun. We have been chilling here for 5 days, working on our tans. We popped over to Cancun yesterday, so glad we never stayed there. Very overpriced and the beaches werent very good at all. Before here we spent a week in Playa del Carmen, a really nice resort just south of cancun. The beaches where stunning, so many nice ... read more

Returned from Valladolid this afternoon and glad to get back. It's hot there! And we were working 11 and 12 hr days so the hotel restraurant with cold beers (only til 10 mind you) was all I got to do. I can suck down a lot of SOLs between 7:30 pm and 10:00 pm ! I took a couple of pictures of the hotel with the new cheap digital and either it has suntan oil from a time when I opened the package or it's just out of focus, but nevertheless I'll attach some pics. No, Mitch, I am NOT spending big bucks for a real digital til I can manage a throwaway! Little info: You cannot sell beer/liquor before 11 am (no hard liquor at all on Sundays), and cannot sell it except in ... read more

Lissabon-Madrid-Cancun Naja, Cancun halt. ... read more
