Whale watching, what a cool experience! We went to the little town of "Les Escoumins", just a few kilometers after the very popular Tadoussac. As soon as we arrived, we could see whales from the shores. We saw 3 species: the fin whale, (2nd largest after the blue whale), the mink whale abd the white beluga. We went East on the coast, until the Islands of Mingan: a collection of islands with naturally sculptured lime monoliths, lots of birds. Also, there's a mix of mixed pictures at the end.... read more

Quebec has just celebrated her 400th anniversary, dear reader , and this gorgeous part of the world is known throughout Canada as La Belle Province. This is where you'll find a little bit of Europe right in the heart of North America. The province features magnificent cities such as Montreal and Quebec City, as well as some of the most spectacular natural scenery in Canada. I'm delighted to be spending time with my lovely host at her new apartment in the centre of Quebec City, from where it's a skip and a jump to the Old Town in all it’s winter glory. Going into Quebec I had to remind myself that I wasn't entering a different country. I needn't have bothered, since it was exactly like being in a different country. Montreal Montreal was nice - an older city, with some interesting architecture and lots of night life. I couchsurfed with a native - Nathalie - who took me on a quick guided tour of the city when I arrived, which included a trip to her favourite place to sample the local delicacy, Poutine. This is a weird dish consisting of chips, covered in cheese curds and a generous helping of gravy. Tasted better than it sounds. Nach meinen Allostop Erfahrungen errechne ich mir eine 50% Chance auf positives Ende der naechsten. Ich buche also eine Fahrt nach Tadoussac, einem kleinen Dorf welches auf der Landkarte vereblich zu suchen waere haette es nicht eine (in der Tat) grosse Attraktion: Wale. Diese kann man dort naemlich von einem Boot aus der Nehe, aber auch mit freiem Auge von der Kueste aus beobachten (wenn man etwas Geduld mitbringt). Der Grund fuer diese Grosse Anzahl an Walbevoelkerung ist die Tatsache dass ich hier Suess- und Salzwasser mischen und so einen optimalen Lebensraum fuer Krill bieten, was wieder einen optimalen Lebensraum fuer die grossen Meeressaeuger bietet. After the USA: A-Ok! trip, I spent about a month in Goshen, NY before I decided I had to return to Montreal. I moved into an apartment chock-full of international people doing various internships, and returned to work whilst trying to enjoy as much spring as possible. I took great delight in walking down my Plateau stairs every morning, watching the tree in the front yard change from a dull, dead grey matter into a full blown blooming purple lilac tree. The little changes that happen every day, as well as the seemingly sudden bursts of spring all over the city, bring many Montrealers great joy after the long, cold winters. Gegroet Nu ik terug in Quebec stad ben heb ik opnieuw een beetje tijd om mijn blog wat te updaten. Zoals ik dus al zei in mijn vorig stukje, zijn we vanuit Tadoussac vertrokken naar Les Bergeronnes om naar de Walvissen te kijken. Tadoussac is enorm toeristisch en aangezien de kans vaak groter is om walvissen te zien als je iets meer naar het noorden gaat hebben we dat dan ook gedaan. Kapitein van dienst van de zodiac was Hugues. Lionel dacht in zijn slippers op de boot te stappen maar bij nader inzien hebben ze hem toch maar aangeraden om een paar botten (aka laarzen) aan te doen. We kregen allemaal een pak aan om het zeker niet koud te hebben en vooral niet te nat en we waren vertrokken voor een dikke 2 uur ... read more

Ik ben terug in Tadoussac in hetzelfde cafeetje als vorige week ;-) Terwijl ik mijn foto's aan het overzetten ben even een vlug woordje. Gisteren en eergisteren zaten we in het park van Saguenay. Een enorm prachtige streek en jawel we hebben er enkele beestjes gezien. Ook een enorm standbeeld in het genre van het vrijheidsbeeld, dit heet denk ik Maria van Saguenay, en kijkt uit op de rivier Saguenay. Op de terugweg door het bos zijn we in de bomen een stekelvarken en een eekhoorntje tegen gekomen. Daarvoor hadden we al een specht gezien, toch wel leuker als je deze dieren in het echt kan waarnemen dan in een zoo ook al is het een wilde zoo. Ce matin nous scrutons l’horizon à la recherche de baleines, mais rien… Pas grave, nous allons traverser le fjord en bateau car aucun pont ne l’enjambe. La traversée très courte dévoile une très belle vue sur le fjord. Si c’est à cela que ressemble la Norvège il faudra absolument y aller. Nous voilà au centre d’observation et d’interprétation du Cap-Bon-Secour. Endroit que nous conseillons à toutes personnes passant par là J. En effet, nous avons choisi d’observer les baleines de la côte et nous pas d’un bateau à touristes. Ces bateaux les dérangent et poluent le St-Laurent, de plus, le commerce de ces grands-mammifères et de l’observation fait fortune dans la région. Les prix sont parfois même prohibitifs. alohatjes, een vlug woordje vanuit een internetcafé in Tadoussac. Na drie uur rijden vanuit Alma zijn we uiteindelijk in Tadoussac beland. Amai zoals in de boekskes, zooooo mooi! voorlopig is het weer hier nog heel mooi wel aan de koude kant dus voor vannacht zal het geen camperen worden maar ik ga toch een poging doen voor de tijd dat ik hier ben. Morgen vertrekken Sonia en Will terug naar Quebec dus ben ik op mijn eentje aangewezen. Normaal gezien ga ik verder trekken met Jeremie uit frankrijk, ook een couchsurfer maar er staat nog niets vast. tis hier wel verschrikkelijk toeristisch en erg duur, maar ik hoop toch met een zee kayak de baai in te gaan, we zien wel wat het wordt, no rush remember ... ik probeer zo vlug mogelijk wat foto's op ... read more

Hi there. Since leaving Mont Tremblant, which was a pretty quiet 3 day stop over I moved on to Quebec city for the night. What a great old quarter! Somewhat touristy but lots of fun. Some of the buidlings at night are quite beautiful. He was a pleasant enough drunk but decided to go out at midnight, stumble back into the room at 4 am with the light blazing, crash into 2 beds whilst attempting to get changed and then started snoring loud enough to shame a chainsaw after some heroically loud ... read more
