Well we officially celebrated my 31st birthday on July 11. Phew what a day. We went back to the same place where I went last year to celebrate, Al Qasr in Madinet Jumeirah. And it was fab. This has to be one of the best brunches in the world, EVER! I had such a good time. The food was fantastic and there was so much alcohol that it wasn't funny. ... read more

Shukram! Ahhh the glitz, glamour and sand that is Dubai! Well, is it all it's talked up to be? Is our ever-increasing fuel price actually creating anything spectacular over there or is it all going straight into the bank accounts of the needy multi-billionaire Sheikh's of Arabia? Do 50c cones actually cost 1c in the UAE? And if so, how long does it take for such ice cream to melt, run down your arm, all the way to your elbow, into your brand new 100% cotton shirt of which you walked for 2 hours in the boiling hot heat to buy primarily to wear to the world's only 7 star restaurant because all the rest of your good shirts were covered in a mixture of wine stains and smelt like Amsterdam coffee shops? All will be ... read more

I arrived back from the UK to find that the wonderful Brit bloke had bought me (what had better be !!!) the first of my birthday presents. Have a look at the picture and you’ll definitely see where 50% of the loyalties in this household lie with the only sport that really matters. Dave had the wheel cover couriered across from Auckland in time for my birthday. Dave has said he may have trouble driving the car now with such an obvious show of support to who he terms the perennial chokers - fine by me, he can drive his own car if he doesn’t like it !!! I have now got him into an All Blacks shirt - that he has secretly admitted in private to liking - (see Jordan blog Day 4 for proof) ... read more

This was my first flight ever, I had taken in my entire life. Luck by chance the ticket my company bought for myself was in one of the well known Airlines of world, The Emirates. I was not so familiar with the name for obvious reasons, however, i was still very excited to take the Window seat. Short yet beautiful time, got a half bottle wine to relish.... read more

After our mishap in Schenzen we had a great Emirates flight, found a hotel and decided to take a little nap before exploring the city! However our bodies had other plans as our two hour nap turned into seven and we woke up at ten at night! Apparently the missed night of sleep and all the excitement caught up to us! After room service and tv, we arranged for a bus tour the next day so we could see as much as possible in the few hours we had left! Dubai is a beautiful city and definatly the richest one we have seen on our travels. We were able to see a mosque, which runs a program to help people understand Islam better, the infamous seven star hotel, the rich appartments on Palm Islands (man made ... read more

The beach was amazing with the water very very warm. The malls and the hotels are out of this world, as are the souks the gold souk was really good though henry didnt enjoy them when i told him i could spend all our trip money there, I was good didn't buy a thing though we did buy 2 new cameras in one of the millions of electrical stores, one underwater one which will be cool for surfing, not that there is any here hahaha poor henry. we have been sledging in ... read more

When I mentioned to my mother-in-law that I thought Dubai was like Las Vegas, she laughed and said, ‘More like Las Vegas on hormones!’ It was time to find out for myself. Here’s what I discovered on my trip last week... Barat the Builder Dubai is still being built. A quarter of the world’s cranes are in Dubai and construction is absolutely everywhere. This means road directions are rendered useless and it’s all too easy to find yourself going the wrong way up a one-way street because the No Entry sign is hidden behind hoardings. Everywhere you go there are signs apologising for the inconvenience, which led me to think that one cover-all sign at the airport, warning visitors that they’re entering a construction site, might be a good idea. The Toddler, nevertheless, will love the ... read more
