Hi,

I will come to Dubai Airport Terminal 1 and I will need to stay there for my next flight (not connected) what are the steps to follow after disembarking from the first flight?

Are there some specific counters and queues for people who stays in the terminal and some counters and queues for people who wants to exit the terminal and enter the city?

What about my baggage, should I pick them before standing in the queue or after that (if there is any queue at all).

Thanks. Reply to this

Hello James

Your question goes to my experience yesterday. It is possible to check through baggage onto a different airline, but I intended to collect my bag (after passing immigration) and then checking in again, as I distrust changing carriers with baggage - not a fan at all.

As it so happened, the first flight was so late that I had no choice, and so my bags were transferred directly to the next flight after some frantic efforts on my behalf (and with great efforts from very efficient and helpful staff) - the bag was only checked through to Dubai, but they managed to intercept it before the baggage claim area and then move it onto my next flight. If you wish to check your bag onto your next flight, it is best to do that before your flight into Dubai, I was just lucky it worked out for me this way.

If you do not wish to leave the airport, go to the "Transfer" desks - they are clearly marked and signposted. They are called transfer desks A, B, C, D and E - not that there is any difference. If you airline is not shown on the booths, just go to anyone of them, and they will assist you. You will then be given your next boarding pass, you go through another baggage check, then down a level and you are back in the departures hall with all the shops and money change facilities. Hi Shane,

Thank you for explaining the steps. I think I have a clear understanding on what I will need to do. Please correct me if I am wrong. Assuming that I am not going to enter Dubai, I want only to change the flight in Dubai airport and I want to collect my bag and check it in again.

- After taking off the first plane I should go through immigration< They wont ask for Dubai Visa, will they?>
- I go to transfer desk and get my boarding pass
- I will check my baggage in
- I am in the terminal 2 where I can shop in duty free stores and exchange the money if required.

Thanks again for the help. Reply to this

What you said is correct, but they may require you to get a visa, but because they are free for Australians it is no issue for me. You might be able to get a transit visa instead if it is easier.

Unsure about options in Terminal 2, I have never stepped inside it - but I'd assume there is currency exchange and duty free. You can check on the Dubai International web site for more info I believe. Reply to this
