I have a confession to make, and this confession is that four months ago when I was working in my tall building with my important computers in my expensive clothes in my fancy city, I knew barely the bare minimum about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Nothing, and really, I didn't even care too much. I wouldn't doubt that many of you reading this probably don't know much or care to know much either. For me, it was just another piece of bloody news, somebody attacking somebody else, somebody else blowing up another building, all happening on a little strip of land far, far away. Happens all over the world, and I can't figure out which conflict deserves more attention than the other, so I'll get back to it another day... Sounds ignorant and heartless I know, but ... read more

Hi, I love Jerusalem - it is authentic, has the best weather in Israel, and offers a great deal of attractions for every taste. As you may know, the city has made some progress tour-wise, and there are quite a few new places to visit while touring Jerusalem. Anyway - for all of you who visit Jerusalem on a frequent basis, and also for those who plan a trip to Jerusalem in the near future, I'd like to introduce you to a new youtube clip, featuring some of these new places for the first time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YXQExQAXQs Hope you find it useful, Olga... read more

Shalom, mes amis. I come to Israel with Fred and another Frenchman, Martin. Martin I am pretty sure is all over pictures from my 24th birthday. "Martin" in French sounds something like "Mahrh-tahn." He works for the European Commission and likes to debate, only wears collared shirts and cares strongly about the environment. He argues with me that I do not need two showers a day, which is I would say the norm for an American, while he only washes his hair twice a week. He has skipped many showers on the trip which I would have deemed highly necessary, ameliorating the by product of stench with a few spritzes of cologne in true French fashion. He only drinks wine and actually thinks cheating on your spouse is acceptable "if done in the proper way." He ... read more

Israeli security measures are no joke. For example I fly frequently with Cathay, and standard rule of thumb is that you need to check in an hour before the flight if you have luggage, half an hour if sans luggage. Stupid, stupid me as I roll up to the very end of some far-flung, isolated wing at Charles de Gaulle for my flight an hour before for a flight to Israel. The El-Al Airlines (the Israeli national airline, I think) area sits all the way at the end of one of the terminals. Its check-in counters are blocked off by both separate security detectors as well as large uniformed soldiers with guns. I stroll on in quite happy with myself making my hour deadline with a few minutes to spare. No lines, great! Immediately I get ... read more

"Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." - John Lennon We are at the airport ready to begin our long awaited "vacances". We have been busy since returning from the far-east almost 2 years ago. Most of our energy was spent on "life" - Yaron started a new job, Hagit finished yet another university degree ( 3rd one - apparently she is as smart as she is beautiful y.b. ), we bought a new car. The uninspiring day to day we all share until we open the door (and pocketbooks) to temporarily leave it all behind. We get off the bandwagon, look how the rest of the world lives, ponder the meaning of life, only to conclude that the bandwagon isn’t that bad and we would like back on. As the ... read more
