This update might not be so organized, and there may not be spaces between words where they should be (the keyboard at the internet cafe isn't so good), but that's okay because God is good and we are all learning a lot! Since the last update, a lot has happened, both good times and hard times. We started our backpacker ministry in Dahab and it was great. We met some really great people (including the people mentioned in the last update) and also two people from California who were on a birthright trip. They wound up travelling with up to Petra Jordan, but more about that in a bit. While in Dahab, we met one of our first hard times. We were told that two of our teammates would have to leave to go back to ... read more

Shalom y'all. In Israel now, and the first few days have been quite an experience. And it all started at the Newark International. Checking in began with a short round of questioning, mainly your reason for traveling and a series of leading questions to find out if you are Jewish. After informing them I was a goy, they let me check my bags, and told me they would meet me at the gate to search my carry-on bag. So I gave them my bag and waited. There was quite a group of us, all but one, as far as I know, non-Jewish. I was told to expect this, and given my facial hair, I sort took it as a given. A few people got their bags and boarded. Security then told me I would not ... read more

Hello All, Merry Christmas to everyone. Nick and I are off to Pari and then back home. We are leaving from our friends house in Israel in less than an hour to board our flight and we are very excited to be home, yet very sad to say bye to our wonderful friends. Sara made us a wonderful Christmas Eve lunch of chilli and yummy pesto tomato cheese dip and pumpkin pie and so we are ready to take on the plane food. Earlier today we got a chance to visit the Temple Mount and visit where God dwelled and Jesus walked. It was pretty amazing and we also got to see the supposed rock or well the Dome of the Rock from where Muhammed left for his "night journey." It was interesting because the Dome ... read more

Dutch Version: Shalom, shalom.

Hello All, Today was another fun filled day in Ya-ru-shalem and we got to go into the city with Sara and the boys to see St. Peter's church (where it is believed that Peter denied Christ three times) and most likely the prison where Jesus stayed, and The Burnt House (which was the lamest thing known to mankind and that only the boys enjoyed). Then they left us and headed home, while Nick and I went to an Archeological Park near where the temple used to be, then we went to the rooftops to see a view of the city from the on high, and then on our way home we stopped by Sara's favorite park to just sit and relax and listen to the beautiful fountain sounds. It was another fun-filled, busy, day with much ... read more

hello all, today was a fun day of tramping all over Jerusalem. Ryan, Liz, and I went through the city and saw some recent archaelogical proof of first temple era. After that we went to the pools of Bethesda and saw the Damascus gate. Ryan left us to go to school and we tried to do the ViaDoloroza, which is the walk of Christ carrying his cross. They actually have groups that carry crosses and sing songs as they walk. It was interesting because the mosque started their prayers right before one of the cross walks started. Both groups were singing and it sounded like a competetion. Anyways, there are 14 stations of his walk that the churches celebrate. We saw the final five at the Church of the Holy Sepluchre earlier this week. Unfortunately we ... read more

Today was a interesting day. We woke up this morning and enjoyed watching some Christmas cartoons with the boys. From there we started our list of sites to see in Jerusalem. First, at a small plaza, we got a great overview of the city and the sights we would see. We spent the morning on the Mount of Olives seeing such sites as the garden of Gethsemane, Mary's supposed tomb, the grotto where Jesus left his disciples before praying, and a church where Jesus supposedly wept looking over Jerusalem. From there, we explored Ryan's school while he took a quiz. The afternoon was spent around Jerusalem in the old city and at a souk, openmarket. I had written here a long lame vent about annoyances I had today and the emotions that sparked them. I'll save ... read more

So it has been two days since we've arrived in Jerusalem and we have seen a lot and we've already gone to my most favorite place (which I will tell you all about last). Yesterday we arrived in Jerusalem at 1am after Ryan kindly picked us up from the TelAviv airport in his rental car (which he rented for the weekend). As Nick told you, we got to see Jerusalem from a car point of view and at night and it was really eye-opening to the fact that we were actually in the Middle East and no longer in that little bubble, called the OC. We had arrived and after a long layover in France, where we got to experience a quick taste of Pari, we were taken to the Rosenbaums new humble abode. Oh and ... read more

hi everyone, well since I am writing this blog you can guess that Liz and I got to Israel safely. We had a wonderful first flight to France. We went into the city and enjoyed the cathedral of Notre Dame. We walked past the Lourve, saw the giant Grande Arc de Defense, and took pictures next to the Arc de Triumphe. I will say I am quite disappointed with how expensive Paris was. Just to walk under the Arc de Triumphe was 5 euros a person so we were unfortunately unable to do that, but for a 7 hour layover we got to see a lot. Our flight to Israel was grueling with a long delay to take off accompanied by loud kids and screaming babies. We got some sleep in and tried to muscle down ... read more

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is starting to get into the Christmas mood. I am getting in the mood in Jerusalem as all the lights are up and quite often groups of people burst into Christmas songs in the churches which is nice to hear. Since writing last, I went to Mary's tomb which was really good. It was in a massive church and I had it (and the tomb) all to myself. It was next to the church of Getheme - which is where Jesus went to pray after the Last Supper and got arrested. Again I had that to myself and so that was good too. I then found the energy to walk up the biggest mountain in Jerusalem (Mt. Olive). Along the way I went to two more churches which were stunning (see ... read more
