I know I couldn't have come up with a more cliched title but with over 30 million tourist per year, it would be hard not to. After 3 days of exploring I finally found time to update this blog, please pardon the typos, blame it on the French keyboard. It's the only thing I don't love qbout this city. We have seen most of the blockbuster sights except for Versailles which we will do tomorrow. The weather has been mostly overcast and the temperature in the 70s. Even without the sun Paris is perfectly beautiful. Everything is the right scale, almost like a thoughtfully arranged stage set. It's difficult to look anywhere and not see something Kodak worthy. It must be amazing to live here and be sorrounded by all of this. Of course it is ... read more

Hej, fran Sweden! Today we took a ferry to the local town of Marstrand, which is a small sailing community on an island not far from where we are staying. There we toured through one of the two old forts that guarded the area over 400 years ago. We had great fun climbing up into the tower and searching through the secret tunnel system under the fort. We saw areas where the prisoners were kept, the blacksmiths "cell", the kitchen, the church and many cannons. Afterwards we walked around the town and Nolan had his first Swedish ice cream..."glass"...there will be a lot of that on this trip! We took the ferry back, then headed to the nearby town of Kungalv, where my grandparents lived. There we had "korv och potatis", hot dog and mashed potatoes, ... read more

Hi Everybody! When you are in this part of the world, you have to do what the natives do. We have lots of places that we want to visit. The problem is that it is difficult to travel between them. We have been to many travel agencies trying to get airline tickets. They either tell us that they are not available, they don't book plane tickets, or some other reason. The rental car is out for various reasons. That leaves the unairconditioned train which is often very slow or the sometimes crowded bus. The bus has to stop at the border for one or more hours, loses air conditioning going up steep hills, but is often the best choice. The bus was our only option for getting to Pristina. One of our companions on the bus ... read more

Dawn Writes: Sorry for not keeping up with our blog, by the time we get back to our hotel at night, we’re so tired, we open up the computer, look at how much work is actually involved and decide to procrastinate a little longer. This was a pretty busy day full of sightseeing and just being an annoying tourist in general. We took the train to the London Eye where we spent a great deal of money to stand in line for 45 minutes only to be tossed into an enclosed space with twenty-two other people and all their kids! Once we got moving though the view was amazing. It’s right over the River Thames and you can see all of Great Britain! OK not really, but it was pretty incredible. We got off the London ... read more

We caught the train into Dresden, our first train trip for sometime. We arrived mid afternoon and after checking into our hostel we hit the town. One of the first things we noticed about Dresden was that not as many people seemed to speak English as other places we had been too. It also did not seem to be as crowded. However, what it lacked in people, it did not lack in architecture. Dresden was almost completely destroyed due to Allied bombing during World War 2. However, it seems that all the old buildings have been reconstructed to match the old style. There are even photos showing how Dresden used to look and how it looks now, and you would hardly know the difference. Dresden has numerous towers from the town hall, several churches, museums and ... read more

Ireland…. Alrighty then, So we picked up the car and it seriously took us forever to get out of the city like an hour to and hour and a half its seriously ridiculous!!! But yeah we got out and headed up the motor ways which was quite boring nd I slept through most of it and then we came to Wales….it’s like someone picked up the Zimbabwe country side and moved it to the UK. It’s really quite awesome none of my pictures do even the slightest amount of justice, so I took a lil bit of video of the winding roads and just how small the lanes actually are and how close the foliage is to the road. Was just absolutely beautiful the only way to put it. So yeah in our travels through Wales ... read more

Friday 10 August - Left work early but due to horrendous problems on the road, decided not to leave until later to avoid the large queues. As I was already at Wayne’s, Stella and I watch TV and got pizza ready for us all to have before leaving. Ricky and Ian joined us and we all travelled in two cars arriving about 9.30 pm. Had jelly babies and haribo’s to munch en route. As we ate and drank before we left after going over Dartford Bridge, I needed the loo so stopped at a garage to 'use their facilities'. Getting out I stubbed my toe but thought nothing of it. Only garage which didn't have a loo but went to club house next door where very nice gentleman allowed me to sneak into the loo. Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Marseille August 13th 2007

Aix is a prestigious student hub offering buzzing nightlife, art, culture and architecture. It is only 25k, from Marseilles. It is like a mini Paris, classy and chic, expecially the main tree-lined boulevard, Cours Mirabeau, which is bordered with cafes on one side and a string of Renaissance private mansions from the 17th & 18th centuries on the other. This is where the fashionable Aixois go to flaunt designer labels and sip expressos. Aix seems to be addicted to fountains. There are three fountains alone along Cours Mirabeau, including the massive cast-iron "Fountain de la Rotonde", dating from 1860 and guarded by haughty, stone lions. The life of local Paul Cezanne is treasured in Aix. To see where he ate, drank, studied and painted you can follow a walking circuit guided by footpath-embedded bronze plaques. Some ... read more
