Went for a looooong hike through the Galtee Mountains. We hiked 16km+ and 6.5hr (including breaks) and we were able to reach our desitination...Galteemore, 919m. I think it's the highest peak in Ireland and I was dead tired. The gang had a good guide with us from work so we were able to hike through random areas we never would've found on our own. I think we took the extreme scenic route which allowed us to see the nicest bits of the Galtees. I am a wimp though and thought I was going to die on the mountain. Luckily, we found one of those fancy hiking sticks and that saved my ankles more than once coming down the mountain. There was beautiful scenery all around and sheep galore! We saw baby sheep and dead sheep ... read more

We're back! After 12 weeks abroad, 4 countries, 6 flights, countless bus rides, 33 hostels and one hotel(!!) we have been around the world and are back in Cambridge. It's been fantastic. We've seen so much, experienced so much, met loads of people and feel hugely lucky to have had this opportunity. And one of the sweetest things about going so far away for so long is returning to the people I love the most : ) Our Oz/NZ 2007 trip already feels legendary!... read more

London Day 3 Europe » United Kingdom » England » London By Bridget BApril 21st 2007On Saturday, Michael (Amy's husband) flew up from Germany to meet us. We met him at the Tower of London, had lunch and then planned our day. Amy and I set off to tour the Tower of London followed by St. Paul's Cathedral. There was a visiting chior at the Cathedral that day, we were able to stay for the service that evening- it was wonderful. We had dinner at the Green Door restaurant again- it was really that good. Our plan was to visit Harrod's, but once again we ran out of time. ... read more

Dear Bo and Dud, We’ve had a busy time since I last wrote to you. The Easter holidays were spent in Dorset; I can highly recommend this area - the traffic can be a bit of a nightmare but overall well worth a visit. We stayed just outside Weymouth at Chickerell. Weymouth is a lovely sea side town, it has a long promenade, harbour, and excellent beach and sea bathing. We have George III to thank for making this resort famous in the 17th & 18th century. Having listened to the shipping forecast for years Portland Bill was high on the agenda for a visit and what a surprise it was. You know how you conjure up visions of what a place will look like? Well this was nothing like I imagined. It’s a thriving community ... read more

Adam, Jo and I took a day trip out to Windsor. Our first stop was the Windsor Castle, we arrived just in time to see the changing of the guards. Windsor Castle is approximately 1000 years old, is the largest inhabited castle in the world and one of the principal official residences of the British monarch. The Queen was at the castle on the weekend I was there for her birthday celebrations, unfortunately this meant that the state rooms were closed so we didn't get a chance to see these. A highlight for me was St George's Chapel where most Kings and Queens since George III have been buried; I saw the tombstone of the Queen Mother. After a few hours exploring the castle we had a walk around the town of Windsor and then ... read more

"Abandoned for fifty years, with the house and garden overgrown and crumbling, the restoration of Aberglasney is one of the country’s most remarkable garden projects. " (Extract from Aberglasney Gardens’ promotional leaflet) Aberglasney? You’ve never heard of it? Well, yes, I guess it must be one of the best-kept secrets in Wales. Some may have heard of the Lost Gardens of Heligan, found somewhere in England’s West Country. Aberglasney is the Welsh equivalent - a garden lost in time. It’s located in the Tywi valley, just off the A40 at Llangathen in Carmarthenshire, between Carmarthen and Llandeilo, in South Wales. It’s a little gem. Like most people, I never win competitions - but, in June 2006, I won a week’s rental of a five-star holiday cottage in an on-line competition on ntlworld (now Virgin Media) offered ... read more

Well for those of you who have been asking us "What is your apartment like in London?" - we finally decided to clean it up a bit and take a few photos for family & friends at home to take a tour. And I know many of you have asked the question "Does it have a spare bedroom for when I visit?" - well the answer is 'no' but it does have a fold out sofa bed in the lounge room. The current room rate is £30 per night - this include a piece of toast and a coffeee in the morning :) We've also taken a few shots of our street to put things in perspective.... read more

So yesterday was really dull. I was supposed to be on a tour that would visit Rosslyn Chapel, Stirling, and couple of other places along the way. Unfortunately the tour was canceled, though they failed to inform me ahead of time, and I waited for two hours to find out. So I was tired yesterday because I got up early and rushed down to the city centre for nothing. In the evening, I went with a group of friends to see a free showing of the musical Man of La Mancha. It was really interesting to the see muscial version after watching several Don Quixote movies and reading several different versions of the story in various Spanish classes. Tt was a great performance for such a small cast of like 10 actors (and they performed the ... read more
